You gonna add some more supports to the roof?
That’s all that the roof is going to get for now. Currently I’m trying to connect all the nodes so that I don’t have any dead nodes. The truck is going to get a lot more tube in the next couple weekends. I’ll finish the X behind the cab for triangulation and I’m hoping I’ll have time to get the harness bar/door bars in. I have four weekends to get this thing trail ready for KOH. It will be going in a state of project/shake down

Fwiw, the way you have the roof won't support the a-pillars well in a hard flop. The idea with the typical crows foot looking brace is to tie the a pillars back to the b pillar if that makes sense.

The side to side strength of the a pillars is the weakest part of an exo imo.

Thank for the input! I know what you mean. I’m just trying to pick my battles right now, there is a lot of little projects left to get this thing trail ready. I have 28 days till I head out. In all honesty I probably won’t have much time to wheel anyways. But it’s so close I just want to get it there to shake it down on a few trails and let everybody take a look at it. I didn’t bring a rig last year and that was lame. It will be nice to have something to run in between camps and the pits in if nothing else

Koh I'm guessing? I'm feeling your pain a bit, trying to get myself to fully commit, but damn is 1400 miles a long ways. Was a lot nicer when I only had to drive from norcal :homer:

Yup KOH! Yeah 1400 miles is no joke. Honestly KOH is the worst time to wheel unless you want to be part of the **** show on Chocolate Thunder or Backdoor  But KOH is a yearly trip for all my friends so we can all get together. We also have friends racing and volunteering so there is a lot going on. Also my drive is only about 400 miles

Ya, I was just talking about that to a buddy. You can go wheel the backside(sunbonnet area) in peace if you want.

I put a little tube on the truck today!

I worked on the truck over the weekend and got a lot done. Finished the rear X tube work, lots of welding, most of the wiring is complete, rebled the brakes (I had to disconnect some lines and reroute for the bump stops) and hooked up the gauges. I did run into an issue with the oil pressure sending unit. It’s 1/8” NPT and I need an adapter to thread into the Toyota block. Rear fenders could use a little more trimming and the rear bumper needs to get cut down.

Making more progress! Sliders are done, wiring is done, winch works, horns work, rear chase bar works, started the skid plate, mounted the passenger seat, changed the spark plugs, motor oil change, oil for the 8274, cut up an old hood I had for a temp hood until I have time to fit the fenders and probably some other miscellaneous projects

How was hammers?
It was awesome! The truck worked great, I had a couple small new car issues that were my fault. The contact block for the rear steer joystick fell off while I was on wrecking ball with the rear turned all the way we had to pull the shifter out to get our hands in there and the ground wire fell off the fuel pump on the water fall on wrecking ball. But it wasn’t a bad fix. I bent the front driveshaft pretty bad but that was my fault having to much fun on chunder. Easy fix back at camp but the driveshaft vibrations made the t-cases leak pretty bad. The axle seals don’t seal either :laughing:Overall the rear steer works great with the leaf springs and the bald tires don’t care @6psi they hook up great.

I went to the shop today and pulled the winch and t-cases out. Loaded them up to rebuild at home. Weather was a little rainy today so perfect indoor activity

Initially just to get on the trail I slapped these together. They were corroded, rusty, painted and oily. I figured it was time to clean them up

The rear case took a lot of aircraft stripper, wire wheeling, brushing and scrubbing but it turned out decently clean

During disassembly I noticed the threads on the front output were hammered so I swapped it out with the front output from the front donor case. I needed new output nuts so I place an order from Marlin Crawler and sprung for triple drilled flanges while I was at it

The winch needed some love, here are a couple pics of it. The motor burned up at KOH and I was planning on cleaning it up anyway. So now it’s getting the same treatment as the transfer cases. I have a new motor and solenoid pack.

I’m painting everything with Steel-It. It has a nice finish and should be corrosion resistant. The winch body will stay raw aluminum.

I reassembled the winch and put it back in the truck this weekend. It isn’t pretty but at least it’s clean enough to be serviceable. New motor with the conversion gear is installed. I just need some large hose clamps to throw the coil pack on, put the line on and it should be ready for battle
