Police: Boise man shoots his own truck multiple times, taken to hospital for evaluation

BOISE, Idaho — The Boise Police Department (BPD) said they took a man to the hospital for evaluation after he shot multiple rounds into his own truck, which resulted in a Code Red being sent to those in the area.
According to BPD, early in the morning on August 12, police responded to reports of shots fired by a man yelling and shooting a gun near S. Pacific Street and Lemhi Street in Boise. When officers arrived, they used a drone to search the area, but could not locate the suspect.
"Officers established a perimeter, conducted an area search and a Code Red Alert was sent out to the surrounding area warning residents of a potential armed subject and asking everyone to stay inside of their homes. Officers located a truck that had been struck multiple times by gunfire," BPD stated.
The owner of the truck was found sitting outside a nearby home, and police said he matched the description of the suspect.
"Officers attempted to make contact with the subject from a distance before using the drone to determine it was safe to approach," BPD stated. "Evidence indicates the subject fired several rounds of his firearm into his own vehicle."
The man believed his truck was being robbed before he fired his gun. BPD said they investigated and found no evidence of that.
No other houses or vehicles were hit by gunfire, and the man was taken to the hospital for evaluation. He was issued a citation for discharge of a firearm within city limits.
