What's new

what's too much on a midlife crisis car?

I have to second the “toy needs to be driven” idea. I don’t know about you guys living in the northern states that have salt on the roads in winter, but the rest of the time, drive em. Not just Sunday drives. To work or the grocery store. I don’t believe in no garage queens. I DD my Delorean before I got my HEMTT finished. It sits more now because I like the HEMTT, but I still drive it at the drop of a hat.

I'm just saying I have a mid life crisis every six months and nothing you buy will entertain you for very long. Often the way we see a object is not the reality of owning said object.
Trying to figure out a hobbie that you truly enjoy would bring much more happiness.
I suggest getting outside and trying some new things.

I would question anyone who does have $100K liquid, like why are you not earning money with your money?

Just does not seem like smart money management to me. i get to move some large amounts around at times, and even then I am thinking about my money making money even if it is just in an account for 48 - 72 hours. Even an amount of $100K a daily interest is not insignificant, so to have $100K in an account immediately available probably means you are not reaching max earning potential with your capital

Unless you are Elon or Jeff or Gary in which case $100K is walking around money.

Liquid-ish, GIC's and high interest stuff is pretty easily accessible without penalty or a tax hit, compared to the true long term stuff like retirement/investments/property/etc.

It's ok to diversify a bit, proportionally if 10-20% is more liquid compared to the rest, that's not a big deal to keep in reserve.

Respectfully not everyone has the same insecurities you do and or short attention span. Also you are buying the wrong shit if you get bored of it. The camaro in my profile pic is driven weekly. Ive had it for close to 15 years. It is 600 hp of the most fun you can have on a public road while wearing pants. Getting out and trying new things is fun. It is more fun if you are also the dude with the awesome muscle car at those things. It and my other projects are a hobby unto themselves. But for my other hobbies i still gotta get to them. Way more fun in this than a kia hatchback. In short lighten up francis:flipoff2:.

My idea of midlife may be different then the ops. But I'm over 50 and if I want and can afford i buy. With the caveat that what I buy doesn't disrupt my lifestyle.

I chose to install a significant audio upgrade in my daily driver as my midlife crisis present to myself. It makes the commute much more enjoyable in a milquetoast econobox.

He's Canadian, don't try applying logic.

i would be surprised. i have a fleet of company vehicles and i dont think a $100k restomod will suffice.
IRS doesn't care what you buy just make sure the paperwork is right.

What's the leader in the clubhouse now?

I think another consideration for op would be if that midlife involved women. I don't think the ladies would appreciate a foxbody mustang like this forum does.
Years ago my buddy midlifed and divorced. We found him a sweet black supercharged jag and the ladies loved that thing.
Just a whoring car really.

Im not driving that far in a car that gets 6 mpg on a ten gallon tank:flipoff2:. Im fast not rich:flipoff2:.

I think op is married with kids so whoring is probably out of the question. Also there are some women who would love a foxbody. Not a ton but i know a few. I used to hang around this one chick who inspite of being atleast 6 years from being born when the 80s ended literally lived like she was on the 80s. The clothes and the hair and everything. Had a late 80s nissan skyline thing and a trailer park firebird and the whole bit.... She would have dug an 80s fox. Off to fb to find pictures. She was a hotty.

i got a smokeshow of a wife i met and got engaged to while driving around a paint-gone, rusted hood and top, Dodge Dakota with a few other beauty marks and dents that finally got crashed into with almost 300,000 on the mileage meter.

i can make a whore car out of any regular car with one simple trick. Men hate me for it. Click below to see my secret.

If you're considering $100K restomods, we are at two very different economic points in our lives  so, take this for what it's worth....

Put me in the $20-40K range for what I would consider reasonable to spend on a fair weather cruiser.

A few months back I spent a little time on Marketplace searching for something old and cool that could fit a part time DD role. I was surprised by some of the hot rod listings in the mid 20s. I wasn't looking for a car, but there appeared to be some lowish cost options out there.
