What's new

what's too much on a midlife crisis car?

Sorry for the de-rail. You have a good 8 pages. Everyone already knows I’m vehicularly tarded.
no trouble at all, its not a gripe, i value your input.

im the one jumping the gun and in decision phase. thinking of pulling the trigger on something in December...

If something that really floats your boat comes up, get it.
I have a feeling prices are going to go back up some with the election results and if the economy gets better.
You have to look closely at the work done on a restomod. All the right parts can be there, but if the work was done by a hack they can be worse than stock.

Timely thread, I have actually been making progress on my current glacially-paced project, and looking ahead to the next one. Considering building one of these but holy crap they are asking bank for them

You ask about the OBS on beaner wheels?
Not for sale...

This is my neighbor so I can ask about anything he has.

This is his father in laws car, who paid $20k for it a few years ago but is looking like he's not going to get to put it on the road like he wants to due to health issues.

The neighbor says if it doesn't sell at $16k he's going to buy it. He's asking $18k.

How "not on the road"is it?

I despise convertibles, but spent a pretty good chunk of my childhood cruising around in a 64 2dr:usa:

i try new things all the time. but my free time is limited with a company and a cattle ranch/farm to run.

my kids are little and we are getting into sports and id like to do more and different things with them. simple things, like going to go camping in a tent in November at the ranch. But i have to do some fencing and welding prior to that.

The car is something that is a dream and there are many times I feel like I don't want to do it because I have always lived frugal, if not outright poor and broke.

Did you know that when a parent dies and leaves behind a minor child, they get their social security checks until they are 18? i did know that. for a long time thats how we lived and it was very little.

so, this is kind of my mindset... i waiver on buying it and i also worry about what kind of message it sends to different people. im not really one who has ever driven a head turner anything, quite the opposite. a well put together Plymouth GTX is not subtle.
I understand all of that including not wanting to appear flashy or send the wrong message.
Old cars and trucks are more the norm around your area and enjoyed by most people. My advice would now be to not settle for something because it's cheaper or less flashy. Get exactly what you want the first time and make sure it's not a pig with lipstick. Lots of shady bondo dealers in the Midwest that are really good with lipstick.
Gtx,Hurst olds,something that will appreciate.

If you don't want to be noticed everywhere you go don't get a 79 ford. Specifically a crew or extra cab 4x4. :flipoff2::lmao:

I swear. It is funny but sometimes when I'm in a hurry, cause work, it gets old.

This

My 75 highboy had a 79 grille, xlt ranger on 35s, once it was painted, I'd get in a conversation going into the grocery store, and another coming out:laughing:

Same with a Centurion. A lot of people have never seen one in real life before and it takes some of them by surprise. I get bothered all the time with the “how much would you sell it for” question.

I had a 69 bronco with a half cab top. Sitting in a fairly decent line in McDonald's and some random guy came in and annouced to the group.

"Who owns the bronco out there?".

uh me...

"want to sell it?"

not at this time..

Dude was from Canada and actually I was one of his stops to grab some bronco parts and potentially a bronco on his way back up. He bought a t case indicator piece and bought a bronco up near Bellingham. :homer:

I had a cherry 67 bronco, got that a few times myself, notes on the mailbox, etc
honestly it got a quarter of the attention of the dent side with the 79 grille:laughing:

They are usually driver quality not crazy prices. Bankhead and 180 east side of Weatherford.
My parents live a couple miles from there. They always have some decent looking cars there.

Or not be a tool and get a 72 ford LTD wagon with 429. The 69 tbird 4 door with 429 are cool too. Sister had one, with a little tuning it woke up.
I've got a 68 2dr Tbird in my driveway with a 11:1 429 in it, and enough parts to make it a whole barrel of fun. I will make someone a smoking deal on it. I think I have completely lost interest in it and want to finish other stuff.

Thank god you live reallly really far from me ...
