What's new

What did you do to your yota today?

Somethin like this
thanks man

I haven't bought anything from Summit in years and years. I will grab that. Also need to find a yoke on there. The PO messed it up at one point and last time I changed the ujoint I was in a hurry and just put it back together as is.

But in line with the title of the thread: Taking the 362k mile LX470 up to Wyoming today and spending the weekend driving around. I added a bunch of new spare parts for this trip such as Crank Position Sensor, lower radiator hose and front wheel bearings. Already carry a ton of other spare parts. Wish me luck :grinpimp:

I like the spicers

I’m going to say that if you don’t have any vibrations, I’d leave it. My first gen is running 63’s in the rear with an add a leaf. Stocking driveline (lengthened about 1.5” after I moved the axle back). I dropped the bearing about 1/2”. I had a little over 6k on the new bearing (replaced before Baja last Oct), just put another one in. They are the rockauto ones, so they are cheap ish, both in price and quality. A good quality replacement would be nice.
just looked and Spicer PN is #211750-1X only $30~ more than the parts house brands and I think it's the OEM. last one I bought came with Toyota stamped into the rubber

what yoke do you need?
The one at the rear of the rear driveshaft. The one that bolts onto the rear axle flange. I have not looked into this at all, but I do know it was missing a chunk of metal. The PO must have damaged it somehow. I wanna fix this while swapping the carrier bearing (again).

How often do the crank or cam sensors go out on these? I don't have a spare of either, never needed one. But now you have me thinking I need to source them before I head to Mexico next week.

Finally swapped out the accumulator springs for the shift kit and got the valve body installed. I need to get a new gasket and o ring for the filter base. Shift solenoids are in and the harness for them is also plugged in.

Also started working on the frame side mounts for the transfer case crossmember. These will be made out of .250 plate and they will be frenched into the frame. Excuse my shitty CAD work. :flipoff2:

From what I'm reading the crank sensors and cam sensors don't really go out. The cam sensors seem to go out after a timing belt if the wires aren't put back right.

I don't feel the least bit bad about spending money on them tho.

Here in Saratoga WY I don't see a parts store and I'm a couple hundred miles from home.

I can tell you right now the tranny in the 362k mile LX470 is acting funny on this trip. It's slipped a couple of times when taking off from a stop and has shifted "funny" a couple of times. Never done that before.

I pulled the tranny plug a few days ago and drained a couple of quarts. There was a tiny amount of clutch material in the oil. Nothing bad IMHO.

Yes, it's full of ATF.

Changed the cabin air filter. Since it needs an evaporator, I haven't really thought to check it, but got a wild hair and ordered one. I'm glad I did, that was the heaviest cabin filter I've pulled out of a car in a while.

Waiting on parts from brown truck Santa still...

The old LX470 made the ~600 mile trip. The tranny acted up the first day, but was fine afterwards

I think the thermostat is giving up and sticking open. Was going up/down a LOT of mountain passes. While going down the coolant temp gauge would nearly bottom out and (I think) cause the engine to run a little rich. Will need to replace that...

Changed the driveshaft carrier bearing in my first gen taco. I got the one from summit.

Question on the driveshaft bolts and washers:

This is the old one before I took it apart. The head of the bolt and the washer are 'down' facing away from the carrier bearing. The nuts are 'up' closer to the bearing.

Is that correct? It's how it was last year when I originally changed the carrier bearing.

Edit: took it wheeling on part of the FS trails that border my property. No nuns died.

Fwiw I always had horrible luck with the spice/timken/Amazon trust me it's the same as OEM bro aftermarket carrier bearings. The only ones that last for me are Toyotas it seems. I'm running the rear offset with the 80 rear axle, and drag it over rocks and shit and drive it to and from the trail at 70mph.

Oh I washed it today:

Yes, and did a fine job of it. 25 years ago lol
I recall the build thread on NWW.

Im surprised you've been getting shit from the Sheriff's. Every new jeep fag has 3/4 of the tire outside of the fender you see around here.

Nothing too exciting. Spent some time cleaning a cruddy transfer case. Didn’t get any before pictures. I’ll probably douse it with a can of oven cleaner for a final cleaning before I bolt it to the transmission. I must admit this pile of shit being a sealed unit is kinda nice
