What's new

What did you do for your ford today?

Finished getting all the hangers and shit off of both rails today.

So here's what's behind the driver's front leaf hanger. This is at least the 3rd leaf hanger this position has had judging by the snapped off replacement bolts in the mess of harness and old brake lines.

Passenger rail (which has nothing in it for shit to collect behind) is basically pristine. Goes to show you how much that matters.

It turns out a piece of formed channel Dethmachinefab gave me from his pile it the perfect size to do an outside sleeve on the full height portion of a Ranger frame.

You guys think a quart of paint is enough for a truck frame from the cab back plus some odds and ends brackets?

quart should do. especially thinned a bit.

edit: holes in the web don't matter much, straps for the top and bottom rail and more importanter

Yes, that is the trail method. The code readers are $20. Makes it much easier to count the blinks/beeps.
When you have multiple codes (because you don't live in commiefornia and don't feel like fixing an EGR system for no reason) it's faster to count and identify the new code than to wait for the code reader to do all of them and provide results

How much blasting media do you guys think this’ll take to clean up?

I can’t see it taking more than a couple 50lb bags but I really have no idea because I’ve only ever used a cabinet.
No idea, 2 wire cups and a torch to cut far and wide of bad spots

Media seems like you'd be trying to save most of it

You think 200lb would do it? Playground sand is $8 per $50lb so buying an extra 100-200lb is no big deal. I'm more asking because I need to know how much of it I should screen and dry in advance. Yes I know it's high silica. No I don't care. :flipoff2:

We have a commercial sand blaster, it goes through material fast, but it runs off of a 185 cfm compressor. I think 150-200 would do it with ours. For what it's worth, coal slag is a more efficient blasting material but we've used playground sand, coal slag and walnut shells.

I have coal slag in my cabinet and it works fine.

You think it's worth $13 per 50lb vs $8 per 50lb to use that instead? TSC is literally across the street from Lowes.

I think that it is worth it. It does a better job quicker and doesn't leave a lot of residual.

Did the Pinion seal on the Bronco.. how long do you think this gear set will last? :homer:

Rear axle is the only thing I haven’t worked on until now.

if you are in there to do it, then do it.

ottherwise, it'll probably last for a surprisingly long time  give it the old "500 mile break in" and fluid change to wear off the contact patch.

heavy pitting isn't the best, but it isn't the worst either

I don’t have the time or motivation to learn how to setup gears so it’ll have to wait. I’ll probably end up ordering a built third member and swap it out. Seems cheaper and easier than having someone rebuild this one.

I’m hoping it will be fine for the few local trips to the beach and burger joints until then.
