What's new

What did you do for your ford today?

Good reads on mercon, search around his name for more info

Threw Mercon V in something calling for Mercon I-IV.

I assume shenanigans ensued by his word choice.
89 a4ld behind a 2.3 in a ranger wanting dexmerc III. 2 years before I got it the TC decided to stay locked, the owner fixed that by unplugging things from the trans. I plugged it all back in when I got it and it only didn't unlock a few times... 4 years ago I loaded it up in pa drove to wv then to vt it puked its fluid a few times along the way, old truck didn't like hot summer days @ 70mph.

Frequently I have to stab the accelerator to get the trans to engage, I checked the fluid the other day and it was a bit low. dumped a qt of Mercon V in yesterday, drove a mile to the dump, still needing the revs up above idle to engage. On the return trip I wound it out in 1st & 2nd, shifts were firm and quick as normal. moved it around a few times since and it needs more revs to engage and slips a good bit. last time I added a qt it got lucas.

The red arrow points to the return rubber hose that connects to the PS pump:

Said rubber hose is covered with a disposable glove. I'll be adding a filter to it before finishing the return hose connection.

maybe I read wrong but that said V is good where III is required, it's the SP and LV thats a no no. I'm suprised it's lasted this long, truck and trans don't owe me nothin.

Fucking genius, You think I could use that for my 97 f250? I hate the damm stock line running so close to the pulley now that I put a Inter cooler in it.
Absolutely; if you have a Saginaw PS pump.

Here's the high pressure hose and fittings order:

I used an OEM replacement hose/cooler line with a filter:

Way better than the retarded line I made for my 78.. with the elbows and the f150 box I couldn't come up with a better way:

FINALLY got rid of the goddamn belt squeal from the alternator by installing a Taurus 3g alternator with softstart regulator, and then a CVF alternator pulley. I had to get that belt really tight. Using a 3 ft piece of 1" DOM for leverage I got it nice and tight but snapped the electrical temperature sender unit that goes in the front of the block. It had a long thread on it so I'll trim that before I install the replacement. Unfortunately, I noticed the power steering belt is just barely starting to show some weird wear so I'll have to revisit this again.

Now that this is in a good place I need to get the AC charged for the first time. I plan on having a mobile automotive AC place come and do it. Used them before to evacuate a system I was dismantling. I was going to just buy the bottles at VatoZone but I read that you need to properly evacuate the system to get rid of any moisture before charging even a new system.

78 F150: unfucked the trailer light harness.. removed the poorly spliced (stripped, twisted wire + electrical tape) BS that was there. Have a Curt harness that just plugs in between the existing stuff coming tomorrow.

Figured out that my turn signals were intermittently not working due to the fuse holder being loose. Added one of those fuse terminals that wrap around the glass fuse and pushes back into the holder to make it a nice tight fit again.

Rode my bike to O' Reilly's and bought 3 fan belts: 91.8"/92.5"/and 93".
The 93" fit.
Said 93" replaced a 91".

The Saginaw PS pump pulley is approx. 1/4" larger than the original pulley, yet I needed a fan belt that was 2" longer.
How does that calculate???🤔

I are confused.:homer:

I'll take a shot at it...

if the belt just had to wrap around this:
------

the belt would look like this:
------>

The ' > ' being the belt then it might need to be 1/4" longer (a tad more actually, depends how thick the ' ----- ' part was.

But because the pulley is whatever diameter it is, and has a radius in it the belt has to wrap around more surface area.. this in relation to the diameter+radius of the pulley itself.

So the belt actually looks more like this:
O)

Dropped 1600 yesterday for Marty's efuel. Gonna drop 800 next week for new turbo pedestal, all new bolts and a kc turbos balanced wheel assembly. Hopefully it can start cooling off next month and I can put some shit back on it.

i dont get why folks keep buying turbo pedestals.

It takes 30 mins, tap and a 1/4" brass pipe plug to delete a stock pedestal.

I've discovered a phenomenon after installing the Saginaw PS pump:
When I do tight/near-locked continuous turns or many turns (like backing in a trailer), I completely lose brake pressure for several seconds.
After several seconds I regain full brake pressure.

When I'm driving around doing normal turns; everything is good.
It's when I do tight turns or a series of tight turns that I lose brake pressure.

nOOB question:
What the flyin' fug?!! :confused::confused:

You mean on the pedal? Or the brakes actually quit working?
