What's new

What did you do for your ford today?

IMG_7345.jpeg

Should’ve called Steve last week. Instead of fighting this rusty junk so guy can drive on the beach and rust it up some more.

78 F150 1-ton swap:
  • made the rear brake lines and got that all hooked up
  • ordered a drive shaft from Tom Wood

Once the driveshaft is in I can turn the truck around, pull it further up the drive way and finish welding some stuff then start on the electric brake booster (iBooster) install. Need to order rear shocks and weld some mounts on the axle. Then gears and front e-locker.

67 Bronco:
Wasn't feeling too great this past weekend and started on the leak-down test. Only did three cylinders but air was leaking out of the driver's valve cover breather when I was testing cylinder #1. Same with #5, and #6 but seemingly less. Did a compression test on 5 & 6 and got 95/100 before I called it a day.

Aside from that, when I drove the truck around town to warm it up it kept wanting to die coming/going to/from a stop, kind of like it was running out of gas (which it isn't). I've noticed it just randomly shut off while warming up and it has shut off occasionally at a stop sign/etc but this last drive was much worse. I also noted that I used to be able to get the truck up to 70-ish mph before the stumble would happen, now it's at 50-60 mph and much worse. So I'm going to try is swapping out the fuel pump, blow out all of the fuel lines (which are new), and see if it makes a difference.

Reluctantly dropped the pan and changed the filter on a 277k mile 2001 4r100

Probably have lotsa neutrals in a month. :lmao:

It’s had yearly fluid changes since 2015 via the drain plug and rotting lines. Never a hiccup. IMG_7422.jpeg Just a lil smooge on the magnet. I get way more off the one in my Honda when I drain it every 15k mi

Started rear winch/trailer winch, and inverter wiring, on the tow rig.

Grommet for hole I'm going to cut in factory drop in liner, which will meet up with "drain" plug on fwd end of box.

Batt connections all done.

Fuse holder in with 500 amp fuse, wiring in and out done.

2500W inverter mounted in bed, and powered up.

Even has a cool remote turn on, I mounted just inside cap flip-up window.

Next, working on an old craftsman compressor I had saved. The compressor part was dead, and it's 220V (so will need a different motor), but the plan is 110V AC power and full on board air (20 gallon tank), in the tow rig bed.

DMG had his panties in a knot that I didn't put tie downs in the Ranger bed.

Well little did he know that I replaced two of the sheetmetal crossmembers under the bed with 2x1/8 square tube and welded in sleeves for tie downs in addition to sleeves for the bed bolts.

I finally got around to drilling holes in the bed and liner today.

I've had eye nuts kicking around the floor all week but only bought bolts at TSC today. I'll post pics once I get them dropped in tomorrow.

For the record, my panties were never in a knot. I was just a little disappointed in you. Now i am a little bit disappointed in your photography skills :flipoff2:

More potato pictures.

Here's the tie down

and what it looks like installed.

My $80 120v stick welder hates 1/8 electrodes but those were the stubs I dug out of the trash to booger up the threads with.

Maybe if I remember and I give enough fucks I'll take a pic of all four of them. Right now the truck is shoehorned into a garage so that all the tools and shit loaded in the back don't get rained on all night.

Found my oil leak

IMG20240518174341.jpg

Changed spark plugs as well and "fixed" the one burnt boot.

It's still missing some, hard to tell under load. After it cools down and I can hopefully fix this leak (I don't have a lot of 10an stuff laying around), I'll give it a better test.

Edit: definitely has a miss, and a pretty good tick ever since bouncing off the 6500 Rev limiter. I have a compression tester coming tomorrow, somehow I don't have one. It sounds valve train related, maybe a knackered a factory sled rocker or fucked up a lifter 🤷‍♂️

I did find enough - 10 stuff to replace that hose, it's a ptfe and leaking from the ferrule. Tightening didn't help. Can't get it shorter so I gotta replace. I guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow. Maybe start with the miss so if the engines fucked I don't waste time on a hose lol

Haven't got the compression tester yet but I pulled out the bore scope.

That's the exhaust valve on #4. I don't think I'm wrong in saying that probably not doing it's job correctly.

I my defense, it's a 200 thousand mile engine I never opened before putting the turbo on it.

Finally riveted the stupid plastic trim to the tailgate on my F150, the clips that hold it have been broken forever from sliding shit off the edge, I just happened to have the tailgate down and the door of the shop open today.

Whet wheeling!
First real tow with the Raptor, I was scared it was not going to be 1/2 the truck my old cummins was and can you really tow with a V6?
It was awesome and did just fine. The bronco is about 4300lbs the trailer, between 2-2500lbs. It got 11mpg.

Did some wheeling Santa didn't go so I didn't get any pics.

Unhooked the trailer and took the raptor on the race course.
If you've been waiting to get a raptor, STOP, go do it!

Sweet,

We didn't make it this year. Had a giant neighborhood garage sale that we needed to participate in to get rid off all the crap we thought we wanted to keep from my godmothers' estate. Next year we will be there with my EB and the kiddos 24 sasquatch heritage edition:smokin:

Tow 7k and catch a little air unladen Sound like shit a 2014 Outback can do and get double the fuel economy. :flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

I rebuilt the Excursions fuel bowl. Tomorrow I’ll install new stainless lines and an HPX regulated return.

I drove it all day last Friday to move my son back home from college. The HPX regulated return is very noticeable upgrade on mine and seriously smoothed idle and rough running warm up.

Decided to ditch the halogen lights in my OBS bumper I've had for about 15 years and put in some LED pods. I know there are aftermarket brackets for this but I built my own anyway. Took a few measurements, drew it up in Solidworks, cut on my CNC, bent and painted all this past Saturday, installed them yesterday. The cheap LED cubes are much brighter than the old lights. I may add another pair of cubes later as the brackets are made to mount another pair.

Wired in the brake controller and 7 pin on the E350

And wired in the brake controller and 7 pin on the F350

20240526_185234.jpg

Used the f350 to move the trailer from the yard to the driveway. Thing fired right off with no complaints. Then the throttle decided to start sticking, made for a fun time backing the trailer between trees, cars and fences

Going to have to see what's going on tomorrow or next weekend

pos rotbox excursion, chasing rear lighting issues again. No tails no tags no back up lights, most of the time turn and brake lights, when I put it in reverse the tag lights come on. :shaking:

Oil change in the expedition. Tail light replacement in F150. After putting the taillight back in, driver front window doesn't work. Luckily it is only cracked a little bit. Hoping it is just the switch but I'm pretty sure it is the motor.

Took in 2100lbs of scrap, which blew one of the boat roller body mounts on the flatdeck, so I finally put in some real body mounts, and ordered the ones for the front of the deck. Also ordered a wicked wheel and a new wastegate, in hopes of stopping the turbo surge its developed with all the towing ive been doing this season.
