Weight tickets thread

It is common for the GAWRs to add up to higher than the GVWR.

It's been my experience the state cares about three things for overweight tickets:

Axle rating, often reduced by bridge distance (axle grouping & spacing).
Tire rating
Registered weight

Manufacturer stated GVWR and GCWR are almost irrelevant outside of licensing requirements and a starting point for what registered weight to pay for.

You'll be within axle ratings, tire ratings, and your paid registered weight. I wouldn't worry if I was driving.

Hell, my state sells a 10% over harvest permit and a 10% winter permit. Nearly every grain trailer on our highways is over factory GCWR and hauling 88k* instead of 80k because of a piece of paper in the window.

*And definitely not exceeding 88k or crossing state lines like this. Wink, wink.

This is why I want to build a truck that looks like a motorhome. Haul anything, no concerns.

I might give off gypsy paver vibes with skid steer and camper, trucks registered to my company but ill be clearly on vacation with wife and kid up front.

**** road pirates.
Play dumb and have your story ready before you get pulled over. You’re going to a family reunion and bringing a skid steer to help put in a wheelchair ramp in your grandmothers barn so she can still roll out there. You’re definitely not getting paid.

I like the "we just bought a jungle ****hole and we're gonna go clear it" story better.

Yeah basically. Keep the story to the smallest number of parties and as non-transactional as possible so they can't redefine anything as commerce.

I always like to make it agricultural in some way, but that may not make a difference in Boston. Just pick a story ahead of time and go with it.

Probably be fine, but good to know details of how it works so i can reduce my contribution to the state. Will update if I get shot.

Also, do people register campers?

campers has got to depend on the state, i'd personally treat it like any other trailer. 1 plate to rule them all

truck/van, trailer or slide-in/drop-on?
trucks vans and trailers got plates
slide in campers don't

Got a trailer camper. Didn't register it so I didn't have to pay tax. Figured i could register it in Florida or never if its not a big deal.

For the first trip south, you're fine with your bill of sale/MSO. If it stays on your property, I wouldn't worry about plates. If you start pulling it on vacations and whatnot after this trip you'll be rolling the dice.

I keep my RV registered, but don't run insurance unless I remember and care enough to turn it on. Registration is pretty cheap compared to insurance.

Though I guess it was better when I got pulled over in my unregistered truck that it was insured
