I can think of a million reasons why this will never be called off. And not really a single reason as to why they would call it off at this point besides the only point of... They dead.

What were these guys worth? What are their inheritance thinking?
Who was liable for the end result?
Are the search and rescue people quitters? One just got there yesterday. Just go home now?
Science... Just to know.
How will the book end?

I can’t think of a navigation method outside of an inertial reference system. Systems certainly exist off the shelf. Though I wouldn’t know how to begin buying one for retro fit into the sub. That would be a little bit more complicated than installing a GPS. On further thought, I’m not even sure how well that would work given how low the speeds are.

Sonar would be an option but I imagine they would have to be somewhere closer to the bottom then 12,000 feet for that to work very well.

I would wager that most mini subs check their position from the mothership.

So, I wonder if this thing is found and recovered, if there is a video recording going on inside the sub at all times throughout this whole ordeal? Recording their final moments

We were diving and one of the divers brought his gopro with the gopro selfie stick that had controls in the handle. After the first dive he came up complaining it wasn't working. On the boat it worked fine. We held it just under the surface and it stopped working. 18" of water was enough to totally stop it from connecting the controller to the camera.
 
I only caught the title.


I didn't read the article so I don't know what's really in it.

Anyone know for sure if they had their cell phones with them? There could be some interesting video/text/emails on them if that was ever released to the public.

If you "sent" an email while out of contact, will the phone automatically send the email when cellular contact is established again? Might be some interesting emails cued up to send when the phones are charged and regain contact.

I bet all the phones will be smashed if anyone was taken out to conserve O2.

People were making those post on my timeline. I say, if I go out in a catastrophic fashion. There BETTER be some dang memes so I can laugh in the afterlife.
