Added some battery powered Christmas lights to a tree made from a scrap piece of 5/4x6 decking. Work in progress

Holy shit selling trees was fucking a real thing. I was woefully unprepared for that but did what I could. Will be ready for next year for sure. Have to finish a tree for the hotel in town. And I did a 5’ lighted Christmas tree for a couple in town as well. Been working on a turtle for a while here and there.

Owls are a work in progress. Haven’t carved any in a while and they feel sloppy. I really dont care for them but I think the heads will turn out well enough to sell well.

Ok did some sanding and need to do more. But what I suspected last night is confirmed today. I picked a piece with a fair amount of bark inclusions. Not sure how to deal with them. Any ideas besides fire?

The bark just adds
Character

My response in my head till i scrolled down.

Bought a sawmill a few years back. It’s funny how it changed the way i look at trees in general. Especially the “ugly” ones. They make the prettiest boards / slabs. Im Diggin the turtle. 🍺

ETA: pressure washer on the soft parts makes some cool lookin pieces.

Yeah for the slabs I’ve seen people dig out the soft spots and put clear epoxy in
And make a table top .

Got some big Fir rounds today and a hook up for some good carving sized cedar logs. The rounds and beginning of crdar logs. I am going to slab the 2 logs that she wants and she gave me the other four 15’ logs.

Thinking I want to carve a walking bear with one or two of the biggest round. Otherwise they are probably going to end up bench ends carved up. Split in half at least.

Finally had some more weather that was warm and dry enough to throw some teak oil on some of them. The turtle has a good solid coat on it and I will probably leave it at that plus a coat of varathane over it. The wizard has 2 coats on it an didnt really darken any on the 2nd coat, just got more even, so it will probably be finished the next good day. It also had some nice figure that showed up
