Some of the bigger trees I have done. Borrowing a 660 for slabbing. Beast for a saw but leaks fuel. Going to look at it tomorrow after I get another load of wood.

My 660 leaks fuel also. Its pretty common for the tanks to crack and the saw needs to be pretty well taken apart to change them

That chainsaw artwork is really cool, I'd love to have some in my yard. If you were in my area I'd have you do something.

Probably have to be LED or they would get hot enough to lower the flash point eventually

I was thinking one of these on top, lamp shade of choice and bam, tree lamp.

I wouldn’t think that a regular incandescent bulb up above would sink enough heat into the wood to be a fire hazard, but then again I’m no scientist.

What size cant do you need to start with for your average sized tree? I have a pile of slabs of unusual wood that may be worth gettin to you to carve on.

6-8” thick 15+ wide and 36 tall. The wider they are the taller I can go. I mainly am carving cedar due to the softness amd the bug resistance. Combine that with a awesome supply and I’m happy. I have some soft maple, big leaf, I am going to try as well as some dug fir. Another reason I prefer cedar is its very suited for year round outdoor as long as you maintain a finish on it. Vs maple does not hold up well long term exposed to the elements.

Cool. I do a bunch of clearing & tree work so i also have a manual mill just for the stuff worth sawing. Sometimes you get lucky. We call it curly maple. Lotsa folks call it flame maple. It’s harder than a weddin pecker. Gonna make a river table or two & aint sure about the rest. I sure as fk aint makin trees, stick figures maybe. :beer:

I admire your work.

Thats some beautiful maple. I moved my whole stack of cants yesterday and went through them. Cut and disposed of a carpenter ants nest. Tried to sort the BIG cant for slabs, thick table tops and suck from the slabs I will use for signs. To the cants for carving. Now I have room to empty my trailer to be ready for the next load. Holy shit I’m out of shape. I moved them by hand and feel like I got my ass kicked yesterday:lmao:

Bought a sand o flex to make it easier to sand them after burning. Knocked out a 20” ish tree and detailed the trunks in both that one and the almost 4’ one. Trying to make the trunks look more realistic to tree bark. Added a bunch of lines at random lengths.

My 066 tank leaked as well

right where the halves are ultrasonic welded together.

was ably to fix it with a propane torch and a screwdriver to "weld" it back together :laughing:

Thanks guys! Time to get to painting a few of them up like Christmas trees to have to help fleece the tourists of some of their money. Going to also add some “fairy” lights to them as well. Battery powered and very small.

@11:10 or thereabouts
always wanted to try this method, as I've done it the "screwdriver and a torch" or with a soldering iron and it sucks

I am going to try the soldering iron screwdriver method. Just need to be properly motivated to take someone elses saw apart and fix it for him. To that extent he said feel free to fuck with it.

Sold a bigger tree out of the coffee shop today. Have another store a few towns over that wants to sell them. And I think I have a store in town that will sell them but still need to talk to them. Also had someone while I was selling the tree ask me to make them a big is one. 4-6’ tall. May be a nice commission piece. Who knows maybe this hobby may do something. Also going to drill and put some Christmas lights in a pair of fence board trees tonight.
