The TRACTOR thread

What do y'all think?

L4310 HST 1200 hours asking $13,500 🤔

I got 25 acres, now about 1/3 to 1/2, half mile gravel driveway.

I have an old MF165 perkins diesel I bought for $2,500 - literally everything is broken but the motor. Total death trap. Wanting something with a loader the wife can operate.

Really don't want to give up my 6ft cutter or box scraper, so hesitant on the L2501. I'd love a machine that could move round bales, but I don't want to spend more than 25k or so.

I've also considered going with the l2501 for small pasture mowing and utility chores then trying to pick up an older construction hoe, etc.

I currently move round bales with a bale buggy trailer which actually works fine and I'd continue to do that if needed. These are the big 6ft 1200lb bales we get from neighbors. They'll lift the Massey's front tires off the ground if I'm low on fuel.
I’m not familiar with that specific model.. but appears to be about the same daze as mine.. which I would consider to be on the small side for actual work, but handy for hobby farm type duties. The attachments included may or may not be useful to you.. the mower has some value if it’s in decent shape. I’d say go look at it and get a feel for the situation.. maybe there’s some wiggle room on price, or the things is nice but just has oxidized paint.

I think I'll set my sights on a little more weight.
I Think I'll try to pickup a bigger bag machine that can do some real work. 55-80HP, gear shift, pre epa bull****. Maybe a deer or a case.

If I had 5-10 acres I'd buy an L but think I'd kick myself for spending money on something I can't really use for everything I need to get done.

Input requested..

My concerns are:

Will I damage my loader or accelerate wear running at an angle a lot? It’s just a small imported ag tractor.. not a skid steer.

And or will it suck because my little tractor doesn’t have enough mass (6k) and hp (40ish) to work well?

We get fairly large amounts of heavy snow, I have a pretty good idea of what I can push straight ahead.. probably have to buy it to try it. There’s a few similar used ones for sale locally, but they asking for more than new $$

Probably unlikely to damage it, but I'd be somewhat cautious. You'll certainly have some side load on the loader, and that's a direction they're generally not designed to be that strong in. However, I'd expect the road to be slippery enough that it would push the front of the tractor sideways before overstressing the loader frame. If you're running along something that blocks the front end I'd be more careful.

Power plays into how fast you go, so worst case just go slower. Weight may be an issue through. You'll probably need to just try it and see what happens.

They are ****ing miserable.

Less miserable than not having one at all though.

Anyone know the Massey machines?

Good tractor.
Have a local dealer here that out sells deere around here.
Seems to be good typical tractor
Thanks! There is literally no info in the ad 🤣 priced at 10k.

Still debating the smaller machines vs a backhoe

Seems cheap, no?

C'mon, man.
Seems about perfectly priced for a scam.

Notice who is selling it? Message "her". I'm sure she won't immediately ask for a deposit to hold it for you because she's getting so many messages.

Notice that "she" is also selling a 3320 for about 10% of it's actual value and has it listed all over the country. Totally legit.

Ha! Hadn’t even looked beyond the couple pics. I’ve got no need for a backhoe, and obviously don’t buy things sight-unseen.

Played around a bit today with my new accessories. Oh and also fabricated the bucket swapped over to quick attach. Don't know if I posted that yet. Also installed my grapple onto the forks.

However I still didn't have the 3rd function set up. I decided to change that since I had all the parts and finally had some time.

So someone made this angle iron mount that comes off the bell housing. However they had to cut and splice it a few times to get the offset they needed. Unfortunately though this required me to extend my reach forward as noted by their position relative to the shifter.

IMG_20260207_134249488~3.jpg

Since it was a wobble fest not within comfortable reach, and the plate wasn't big enough for a triple spool, I set out to see a similar mount from scratch.

So grabbed some plate and angle from my stash and eyeballed where I wanted the valves.

Started off with the angle and one relief cut to angle it away from the shifter.

Got it set up in a jig so I could spot weld it together.

IMG_20260307_185217118_HDR~2.jpg

Welded, finish cut, and drilled.

And with the spools in their new home.

I need to get the bolts to bolt them on and I'm probably going to add a small brace that goes to the side cover bolt for added rigidity but I think it turned out alright. Now all I have to do is swap all the hoses over and run the 3rd function hoses.

Well it's sure got the right level of triangulation for farmer fab. Makes for a nice contrast with the valve properly angled back at the operator. :flipoff2:

I did decide to add the brace. And make it bolted so I can service the tractor without taking the whole bracket off.

And the labyrinth of hydraulic hoses are installed.

Now I just need to zip tie the 3rd function hoses like the hack I can be and I'll have one of the only IH 656s with skid steer quick attach and full 3rd function.

OK I is idiot. Help.

Wife and I decided on something smaller. My thinking is Kubota. I have lots of time on a bx23. Want bigger.

What the **** to do you call connections for front accessories? I'd like a bucket and a graple. Would need hydro circuit for graple.

Plus backhoe.

Kubota's website is literal ****.

Edit: thinking lx or L for a bit more hp

OK it's 3rd function

Not sure what an lw is...

How much property do you have?

The basic models go

Bx 42" wide
B 48" wide
L 60" Wide (losely)
Mx/ M 72" wide (losely)

Don't consider an lx under any circumstances. Cast aluminum rear axle, awkwardly tall and narrow, and the small 3cyl out of the b series in something thats trying to be an L series

You mean skid steer quick attach and 3rd function?

Be sure to note differences in a diverter kit and full 3rd function. Diverter kits require you push and hold a button then move the bucket valve to power the 3rd function.

A full 3rd function has 2 buttons that allow you to open and close the accessory with its own buttons without having to run the bucket valve as well.

Thanks for the lx info. L is what I think I'm aiming too. M gets $$ fast.

I want to be able to use a graple in place of 5h4 bucket. So full 3rd it sounds like.

Qd bucket/front plate whatever for sure

It's officially called skid steer quick attach. It's a type of quick attach system that a lot of manufacturers use beside the arrogant Deere.

I got my forks from the local farm store. But they'd be too heavy for a smaller machine. A lot of people order what they want online and just ship it. I had my grapple shipped to my work since we have a dock. But yeah a skid steer quick attach allows you to use any manufacturer for accessories provided the accessory size and weight will work for your sized tractor.

I’m looking at a 2010 Kubota L4400, comes with the front bucket and rear box blade. Anything to look for or any issues with that model? My FIL is selling his property near Edna, TX and is going to sell the tractor when he sells the land. What would a fair price be for it with 500hrs on it. The bitch is I’d have to go from northern NM to near Houston to get it. Google says bare weight on it is from 3100-3600#, is that accurate? I only have a 7K rated 18’ trailer, so 5kish left over after the weight of the trailer.

Kind of in the market myself. I'm looking at a Kabota B2400 (about half that size). It's got a front in loader and is 4x4 with 800hrs. I've already got a Kabota backhoe for it. Like you, I'm looking at about a 5 plus hour one way trip. But at $4,500 I'm thinking it's probably worth it.

That’s why I’m asking about known issues etc on it. For me it’s about 18 hours one way, so I want to be sure it’s worth it first. Maybe he’ll give me a family discount for taking his daughter off his hands:flipoff2:

Have you looked at them on mp to see what they are asking for in your area?

Well....someone got to the one I was looking at sooner than I could. Oh well.
