The TRACTOR thread

Thoughts on this? Decent price? Asking 14,600

IMHO great general purpose backhoe. Price seems high to me, but may be regional. $15k to me would be like new condition. Solid used I'd put closer to $10k, but again really hard to say. Also depends a lot on actual condition of the machine. 4B cummins, so reliable and easy to work on, though less power than newer machines. Shuttle shift has some weak spots but fairly easy to rebuild.

Pay close attention to the kingpins and front axle pivot, especially rear pivot - they tend not to get greased and will be expensive to fix.

One thing to note is weights are less buckets, and the ex hoe adds a significant amount of weight plus has a counterweight. Going to be right about 14k lb.

Very good price if it were in ca. Great older machine that is a little slow and clunky. It will piss you off but do everything and always start.

explain old and clunky. Never run a full size backhoe, only mid size kubota ones.

Not sure what he's talking about. It's not push button fancy electronic ****, but mine works smoothly and easily for everything I've done. If the control linkages are worn it may have slop in controls, and likewise if hydraulics are worn will leak down, have low power, etc., but that's a function of wear, not the machine. Flip side is that there's very little to break that's not simple cheap and obvious.

after 10+ years of deciding to do it or not, finally broke down and got this before I retire at the end of the year

2015 310SL
5200 hrs
spotless and everything works
multi-purpose bucket
12", 18" and 24" backhoe buckets
thumb and swinger bucket attachment.
now I have to figure out how to run it

Dang, sweet!

And don’t let it idle much. I believe it has a dpf? We have a similar one on the ranch and believe it or not it can get to 130% of soot loading before finally telling you to **** off. Lol

Just will likely have a little play everywhere from being an older machine. Pins, bushings, controlls, ect. Will have less power then a modern machine and its noticeable.

With all that said it will likely outlive you with less then basic maintenance.

Now I just need my Cross sbaf22 valves to show up.

Can you post a link

Edit: It came across my Facebook feed, that machine is ****ed.

Somewhat baffling to me. May be camera angle, but looks like cab doesn't sit square and exhaust stack is mangled in addition to obvious backhoe damage. I can't figure out the duct tape on cab though - assume cracked windows but they all look okay. Why is bucket pin missing/broken? And where/how did the hoe get hit to break like that?

Depending on what's going on with cab, front end and drivetrain is probably still good, and looks like most of the backhoe is still usable for parts. Owner is delusional about value, but it's not as ****ed as many I've seen.

These 2 are more commonly what I see around here for pricing. Lots of ****ty things about liking here, but at least equipment and machinery prices are generally decent.
