Golly was this an adventure.
So my 656 only has a single remote under the tank to the left. His they used the right remote to run the loader. The loader has its own sticks mind you so I just needed flow. Thought about doing a power beyond but my remote is all cast. It's not a flow thru with an end plate so I'd have to get another remote too. I figured how hard is it?
Well the IHC uses dash 10 7/8-14 (I think) but it's considered 5/8 o ring boss. No problem just go to my local farm store they have 2.
Nope they don't someone swapped it with a cheaper fitting to save literally less than $9. So I ended up having to get another at another store. I amazon-ed some summit hydraulic couplers and tied them in with the 3 foot hose I also got at the farm store.
Cool story right? So I think I'm all set. Now all I had to do was put the auxiliary hydraulic hose kit on the John Deere 318 54 blade so my dad can use it. Just have to get the 656 out first.
So first the first time in owning it I go to pull the choke and it's seized up. Oh okay I'll pop the air cleaner hose off and hand choke it. I crank it over and it does a slight fire and then nothing. Absolutely nothing.
So I proceed to give it some starting fluid in hopes the fuel froze up. Nope nothing. Agh I told the guy a time and I still have to work on the 318.
So I messed with it and messed with it. Had my truck jumping it. 75 amp charger boosting it. Nothing. I checked the coil. 12v in 1v out. Guess the H won't have one for a while! Then I checked the spark with a loose plug. It didn't seem strong but it was there. So I took a plug out and sprayed starting fluid in the cylinder. It popped and still wouldn't start. Well that's odd. Alright check the points. Whelp those dont exist someone put electronic ignition in. Sweet went from a $30 tune up to a $200 system. Agh. Well hope I can get it to run.
Then I found the d21s I still had for our old 656 and decided to put 5 of them in. Why? Because I don't know where plug #6 rolled off to. So in putting the last plug in I sprayed starting fluid in it again and it gave off a couple pops and and some black smoke then fired up like nothing was wrong.
So I told the guy I was running a bit behind and he said no problem his Ford won't start either and it was blocking his 656 diesel that did start. That's lovely one of the worst cold starting diesels IH ever made is starting and my gas wouldn't.
Then the 318 was it's own mess because I couldn't get to the 54 blade. Ran out of gas trying to get through the drifts so I took the 656 and proceeded to aggressively drag that little blade behind me.
Now I'm so far behind I just want to get the blade on the 318 and get going, I'll change the hoses at dad's. Of course I can't just plug the hoses in one wants to fight me. So I plug the lift into the angle port that shares with the deck which is still on. Whelp blade goes up mower goes down. I'm so fed up I just get it on the trailer as it is. Then load the 656 that I had running this whole time and was on my way.
The Milwaukee M18 and forge battery made swapping brackets a walk in the park and we used his Kubota with his son driving to move the belly bracket from one to the other.
The loader was a fight. Kubota wouldn't lift it much and the sawhorses were frozen. Sledgehammer got the horses out so I had them lower the loader since they wanted to see how the hydraulics take it on and off (he didn't realize it's a quick mount same way as the 2250 and such). Now the problem is the hoses aren't long enough to do this! Agh so it's time to team Kubota and hi-lift jack. Finally get it on and loaded up. All good right? Nope the 318 isn't done with me yet.
So even with a 20' flat deck and the 318 sideways on the front, I couldn't manage to get enough tongue weight. Anything beyond 55 was a wiggle. So minimum expressway speed it is until I could reach the most practical 2 lane. Then I made it to my friends house to move a 1 ton wrecker bed out of his way.
I leave it there and take the 318 to dad's. Proceed to change the hoses and went back to get the 656. This time it was smooth as silk coming home.
Until I got home. Won't fire even off starting fluid. In the back yard the whole rig goes until tomorrow.
But I got my loader!
