The TRACTOR thread

Drug home a hot pile of 1466 the other day... Got the loader and cab pulled off of it and some new front tires/rims on it

Man I'd love to have that Binder, with cab and loader, I've been needing that bucket grapple in a bad way
Nice score

It's a bit rough, but it'll clean up nice. The Farmhand F11 loader is pretty sacked out, but the cylinders aren't leaking, and I have other F11 loaders on tractors that I can use them on, so that's a plus! Paid $5500 for it all so I think I made out pretty decent on the deal.

Easiest/cheapest option is likely to make or buy a skid steer quick attach conversion for your loader and pick up one of the chinese grapples that are hitting every single auction in the country lately. I've been seeing them go anywhere from $500-1k+. You can get them on the lower side of that if you're patient.

That's cheap.....then again, most of the .gov auctions I watch here tend to shoot up a ton in the last few minutes. Bet some idiot ends up paying $12-15k for that after taxes and fees.

I buy garbage. On most auction sites there's plenty of garbage that goes for **** all. I've yet to see any garbage on govdeals go "yeah I totally should have bid" level cheap within 100mi. I stopped checking.

Oh yeah ?
Well, I fixed the other leaking cylinder on my crummy John Deere today and it only cost me $62.49

I will not be outdone

One day I will make it run on all 6 cylinders .
You're getting there! I have a ton of work to do on the **** I've recently acquired... I dunno why I do this crap to myself sometimes. But when the deals are there I feel like I need to jump on them even though I already have a ton of current projects. I need to stay away from marketplace and the local used equipment place...

Do you have any Hydro's ?

Have a 1066 Hydro with a bad transmission that I kinda want to mate up to a parts tractor with a decent gear transmission to make another tractor.

Also have a Hydro 100 in the shop with an engine that needs rebuilt. Lol.
Yeah dont bother with that silly engine rebuild, just drop it off over here an I'll take care of it for ya 🤟

And I bought another International 1066 today... $4500. No pics yet.
Ok so the 1066 I bought had "hydraulic issues." The story I was told was the previous owner put a new hitch and MCV hydraulic pumps on it but it wouldn't prime and they basically gave up on it. Had a chance to mess with it today. It was low on hydraulic fluid and I pulled the filter out and the little standpipe that the hitch pump slips over got pushed into the filter side (super common problem when installing a new pump and exactly what I figured had happened) So basically I had to shimmy that little pipe back into the hitch pump so it would seal up against the internal o-ring and then I threw a new hydraulic filter in it (looked like the one I pulled out was also newish) Oil was super clean too. Then I added 6 gallons into the system and threw a battery into it and it fired right up and the hydraulics went right to working immediately.

Part of the deal on the tractor was I would be able to swap the 15" front rims that it had for a pair of 16" rims on a parts 806 tractor about 100' away, so I got that done too. It's ready to drive home tomorrow. :grinpimp:

13 years have passed since dad sold the 656 I grew up on. Had a factory 2250 mount-o-matic on it. I changed engines, cabs, beds, moved broken vehicles, scrapped vehicles, etc with it. I have missed it dearly and hope to one day find it.

However last year I acquired this:

Unfortunately as you can see it doesn't have a loader which made the one we had so useful in the first place.

That changes tomorrow when I pick this up:

I'm excited.

I got muh chains awn Jenny
Edit: made these from 4 sets of truck chains

Hey. Look toward the rear of the tractor from the front at the lower bracket that the 3 point arms and cylinders attach to. The main frame that attaches to the tractor. Do you see a number? I got 101 and always wondered if the guy that built these Saginaw 3 points was welding serial numbers on them. Dad and I went and picked the one up for my H right from his shop. Still have it.

Golly was this an adventure.

So my 656 only has a single remote under the tank to the left. His they used the right remote to run the loader. The loader has its own sticks mind you so I just needed flow. Thought about doing a power beyond but my remote is all cast. It's not a flow thru with an end plate so I'd have to get another remote too. I figured how hard is it?

Well the IHC uses dash 10 7/8-14 (I think) but it's considered 5/8 o ring boss. No problem just go to my local farm store they have 2.

Nope they don't someone swapped it with a cheaper fitting to save literally less than $9. So I ended up having to get another at another store. I amazon-ed some summit hydraulic couplers and tied them in with the 3 foot hose I also got at the farm store.

Cool story right? So I think I'm all set. Now all I had to do was put the auxiliary hydraulic hose kit on the John Deere 318 54 blade so my dad can use it. Just have to get the 656 out first.

So first the first time in owning it I go to pull the choke and it's seized up. Oh okay I'll pop the air cleaner hose off and hand choke it. I crank it over and it does a slight fire and then nothing. Absolutely nothing.

So I proceed to give it some starting fluid in hopes the fuel froze up. Nope nothing. Agh I told the guy a time and I still have to work on the 318.

So I messed with it and messed with it. Had my truck jumping it. 75 amp charger boosting it. Nothing. I checked the coil. 12v in 1v out. Guess the H won't have one for a while! Then I checked the spark with a loose plug. It didn't seem strong but it was there. So I took a plug out and sprayed starting fluid in the cylinder. It popped and still wouldn't start. Well that's odd. Alright check the points. Whelp those dont exist someone put electronic ignition in. Sweet went from a $30 tune up to a $200 system. Agh. Well hope I can get it to run.

Then I found the d21s I still had for our old 656 and decided to put 5 of them in. Why? Because I don't know where plug #6 rolled off to. So in putting the last plug in I sprayed starting fluid in it again and it gave off a couple pops and and some black smoke then fired up like nothing was wrong.

So I told the guy I was running a bit behind and he said no problem his Ford won't start either and it was blocking his 656 diesel that did start. That's lovely one of the worst cold starting diesels IH ever made is starting and my gas wouldn't.

Then the 318 was it's own mess because I couldn't get to the 54 blade. Ran out of gas trying to get through the drifts so I took the 656 and proceeded to aggressively drag that little blade behind me.

Now I'm so far behind I just want to get the blade on the 318 and get going, I'll change the hoses at dad's. Of course I can't just plug the hoses in one wants to fight me. So I plug the lift into the angle port that shares with the deck which is still on. Whelp blade goes up mower goes down. I'm so fed up I just get it on the trailer as it is. Then load the 656 that I had running this whole time and was on my way.

The Milwaukee M18 and forge battery made swapping brackets a walk in the park and we used his Kubota with his son driving to move the belly bracket from one to the other.

IMG_20260207_124348404.jpg

The loader was a fight. Kubota wouldn't lift it much and the sawhorses were frozen. Sledgehammer got the horses out so I had them lower the loader since they wanted to see how the hydraulics take it on and off (he didn't realize it's a quick mount same way as the 2250 and such). Now the problem is the hoses aren't long enough to do this! Agh so it's time to team Kubota and hi-lift jack. Finally get it on and loaded up. All good right? Nope the 318 isn't done with me yet.

IMG_20260207_134249488~2.jpg

So even with a 20' flat deck and the 318 sideways on the front, I couldn't manage to get enough tongue weight. Anything beyond 55 was a wiggle. So minimum expressway speed it is until I could reach the most practical 2 lane. Then I made it to my friends house to move a 1 ton wrecker bed out of his way.

I leave it there and take the 318 to dad's. Proceed to change the hoses and went back to get the 656. This time it was smooth as silk coming home.

Until I got home. Won't fire even off starting fluid. In the back yard the whole rig goes until tomorrow.

But I got my loader!

Any sign of the carb running over? If you’ve got fire (should be an easy way to check spark, I assume you have a Tool) considering how it started after changing plugs I’d say it’s over fueling. Hold the hose clamp off the intake pipe or just loosen it up and see if gas runs out. Sometimes they’ll run over a little bit, but if there’s no external leak, they will eventually stop flowing fuel.

It's not over fueling as I've had the hose off to choke it with my hand. Doesn't change chances of starting. Other than why does the choke keep freezing up (never had one do that) my guess is the electronic box in the distributor is weak when it's cold. We're talking 10⁰ F here. Fresh d21s compared to d16 was probably the bit it needed to spark and fire. And temps were slowly coming up to 20⁰F.

This carb does have the little solenoid or whatever on the bottom I guess that could be a potential issue. But the fact it won't fire off starting fluid is an issue as well.

I still wouldn’t assume the electronic ignition is “weak”, they are usually pass/fail. Weak coil, maybe. We’ve probably installed close to 100 of them through the shop in the last 30 years with few failures. When they fail they are just dead, or they have some weird timing issues.
That said, you’re there and I’m not so you’ll figure it out

That's why I went coil first. The one on the H is new. Well it's on the 656 now. It's going to get hit with the salamander tomorrow to see if it starts because it ran fine all day, choke worked, started multiple times until it chilled on the trailer coming home.

Edit: maybe the stupid carb solenoid is the issue. It could be shorting and depending on how it's wired affect the coil. And it also would limit fuel. Hmmm
