I haven't washed a sled since I quit using an open trailer, but these came back from the dealer with a coat of dust on them and that's driving me nuts. His storage shed has a dirt floor.

Dirt floor storage? Check for mice.

Worked on the 50’ bridge yesterday, getting materials prepared for the workers tomorrow

Did the annual sled prep day. Still have but more to do but haven't gotten parts yet. Dumb picture for fun, nothing is touching or leaning on anything

What I love most about sleds, is no matter the prep they always seem to find something to break. :flipoff2::lmao:

90supra had three matching black revs that we would park like that at intersection, get some funny looks.

looks like you are neglecting the old yamerhammer

Yamahammered. We've been bringing it back just wasn't the focus for the day. I think we just need to slap a belt on it'll be good.

I take it that is a twin?

Was it the XLT triples that were prone to crankshaft problems, or all Polaris triples?

Had a Indy 400 back in the day. Fast sled especially back in 1987.
Yup, that ones a twin. I think it was a year or two of XCR 600 triple that were known for crank failures. The XLT's were supposed to be pretty solid unless you piped or clutched them in a certain rpm that caused some bad harmonics?

Those 400's are fun sleds, trail rode one for years. Hold it to the bar all day and still get decent fuel economy.

That's the best snow to have fun in!

How the hell does new Mexico have 10x more snow than Montana right now?

Had one solid weekend of winter, now looks like it's gonna rain this week... Was able to get out on the oval sled, club had a great turnout.

All snow track, don't need a lot of fancy equipment to get out and be competitive.

Someone else took this pic, really feels like ~1983 at this race. Track was built in the late 60's and ran through the 80's. Then about 12 years ago they resurrected it with leaf spring only racing.

Our new Backcountry Sport (600 EFI Rotax) to get the fam jam into it. Youngest boy is loving to go exploring around on it. Have had a really crappy winter so far and just managed 60km on it this weekend (First ride).

how much snow do you need to 'snowmobile'
I know you can do the whole grass drags, water crossing, I have even seen them in the sand dunes
but I imagine it is hard on things when there are not enough snow

There’s also snow conditions for trail riding I’m not to picky but for off trail I can be a whiny bitch. Then as mentioned depends on the sled my old zrt beats down the trail or across the lake pretty good with minimal snow same goes for the old 79 exciter now my single ski off trail I become a snow condition snob sometimes there’s to much fresh snow go figure but I’ll take to much over wet heavy crap it’s a curse of a hobby at times.

It depends a lot on the base. If there's been a good freeze and the ground is hard, 4-6" is enough to ride on trails. If you are off trail it takes a bit more snow to fill in the gaps and let you ride over rocks and other obstacles. We had about 25-30" of snow, and when we rode Sunday there were a lot of almost bare spots in fields from the wind, and then spots in the ditches or along fencelines that were 2-3' deep.

I was out Sunday, had to ride on gravel on the trail in for the first 3 miles. About 1/2” of slush, it's hard on a mountain sled (800 rmk 163) that requires snow to lubricate the hyfax. Also doesn't make enough snow dust to keep the sled cool. Had to stop every 1/2 mile and pack the tunnel with snow. Scratchers didn't do anything as there wasn't enough to even scratch.

Once we got into the snow there was 30-40", but I still bounced off a few rocks that were barely covered and the wind had swept the snow flat.

Now, if I would have been on my old Indy it has a bunch of bogie wheels and the hyfax doesn't care so much about snow. It also has 3 big heat exchangers, instead of 1 tiny one, and is almost impossible to overheat.
I also would have been stuck in most of the snow off the trail, as it's a 133 500 with 1" paddle. It doesn't do 3' of powder ever.

Type of riding really depends on how much it takes. I also think snow water equivalent matters too. Right now where I ride we are sitting at about 30-40" and I think around 8" SWE which is still making for log hops and watching for rocks. Tore a track lug and had a stick go through a different lug last weekend. Still a good time.

I was out in 3-4" of snow on Saturday. Biggest problem would be cooling if not fan cooled. Our sled is not having issues in low snow, but is also in break-in which adds more fuel and oil. Need to get my ice scratchers installed so I can go on the road to get to better spots.

Been out as much as I can this year even with how the snow and temps have been. I ride a 22 Matryx slash Khaos 165 850, my first sled. Does have a Camso 300LX track (Skidoo 3") on it in these pics, made it more playful for sure. All of these are frames from videos so quality kind of sucks.
