What's new

The Snowmobile Thread

It does still suck to lose another manufacturer even though the mountain sleds were basically just cats (from what I know).

But now we have lynx. Which are just skidoos with different suspension. :lmao:

Cat may not be far behind. All I see are Polaris and skidoo on the mountains. Cats are few and far between. After riding my buddies 162 m8000 with a boondocker turbo kit, and several stock ones, I bought a Polaris.
Sad thing is he even bought a Polaris after riding mine.

From a trail / cross country riding standpoint I have really enjoyed my Sidewinder. Big power, efficient and rides/ handles decent (thanks to Cat)
I wonder what direction the Thundercat will go engine wise , maybe Yam will still build the motor who knows..or maybe Textron will develop a new turbo 4 stroke.

Snows flying!

Wife is wrapping her Matryx Pro 155 we picked up towards the end of the season last year. Itchy to go break some A-arms chancing early season conditions.

Didn't get up the mountain on the sleds this winter just gone (northern summer). Between weather timing and other work commitments we only got two attempts.

First attempt we got stuck on this snow-bank. Looks soft but it's refrozen spring-corn and basically a pile of ice. Had to chip the disco out underneath to get back down. Only had one vehicle so couldn't just drag it through. By the time we got it unstuck the road was thawing and turning to mush.
I'll see if I can upload a video later.

Second time, almost a month later, we hit magical snow conditions so ditched the skidoo trailer and kept on driving. Got all the way to the top without even needing chains.

Driving around on almost a foot of fresh snow over hard frozen base.

I’ve never looked at this thread until just now because I’ve never ridden or had a sled. We saw a sled on a trailer the other night on the way to dinner and the kids were guessing where it was going(away from the mountains) they decided it was going somewhere to get freshened up before it’s time to ride. My guess was someone just bought it

Man fuck all you people living in the mountains. I’m jealous as hell. Got the 2 up seat installed last night so my daughter can ride with. Boys sled behind it needs the previous owners crap exhaust hack undone today.

And a pic from the mountains. Sold that sled because I just can’t get out there enough. Once again. In the words of cartman. screw you guys

You got your 2000 and older $1000 beater sled clutched to go 50 mph yet ?

I have an Indy 500 that was free. :flipoff2:

It only cost me $300 in parts and registration. And it only does 50 and then the rpms climb. The secondary is seized to the jack shaft so I can't get it apart and replace the buttons. If I ever get it apart and put $30 in parts in, it should be good for 90+ on the lake. :homer::grinpimp:

I'm picking up this beater on Friday to replace the same year Yamaha I impulsively sold last year when we got no snow. Watch we get nothing this year either. :homer:

Working on the "new" sled for this season, allegedly 1998 is the pinnacle of snowmobile technology...

I take it that is a twin?

Was it the XLT triples that were prone to crankshaft problems, or all Polaris triples?

Had a Indy 400 back in the day. Fast sled especially back in 1987.

Took today off to get and set some steel for our club. 2 60’ 18w40 and 2 12 w40. The 4Ds came as fiddies.
