What's new

The run on toilet paper is here again.

I hate humans.

I want to think I’m a capitalist but then people do weird shit like hoard toilet paper. Kill the hoarders and wipe your ass with the shirt off their back.

Anyone remember the lady in Utah that got shut down for gouging on selling toilet paper out of her garage. Or the dickhead who got shut down for doing the same with hand sanitizer on Amazon. Fuck those people.
But muh free markets. Muh profits. Muh right to make muh monies.

This was actually being defended in another thread recently.

Had to run to Walmart yesterday for some stuff. Walked by the TP aisle and it was dead empty. Had to stand there and laugh for a bit. Wow.

Yeah I saw, the generator and fuel price gouging in hurricane area argument. I didn’t weigh in because I don’t know what I think of that situation one way or the other. I agree with both sides-ish so I’m a wishy washy flip flopper on the matter.

I have a hard time sympathizing with people being unprepared. But not everyone is in a position to be prepared. My grandparents are old and on a fixed income. They get a little 4 pack of TP every couple weeks because why not under normal circumstances. They go shopping together, clip coupons and make a game out of shopping and saving money. It’s one of the most exciting things they do anymore. So now they barely have any TP and us grandkids will have to help them out.

I have a fair bit because I’m an idiot and don’t shop with a shopping list. I’ll be cruising through the store and grab some because I can’t remember the last time I bought some.

bro, don't fall for the communist brainwashing

"they're wasting needed supplies"
well the government will confiscate them and then pay to have them destroyed since they cannot be distributed, might have been tainted

Well I buy once a month, I didn't last month so I'm down to 4 rolls, hope the dollor store has some when I go into town tomarrow

don't be a fuckin retard bro
Oh right, hoarding generators, TP, and hand sanitizer to flip a quick profit is the wholesome and righteous behavior. How quickly I forget.

If you show up and the shelves are bare or you show up and simply can't afford the price, is there any practical difference?

If you decide it's worth the cost, in 1 scenario there is at least the choice available.

The vast majority of the store is sold out here. Entire isles, empty.

Well, they have stuff all over, but I'm not willing to pay the price so might as well be bare

I guess the people that can't afford the gouger markup deserve to suffer and go without, after all it's very obviously their own fault for being poor.

Same applies to the wealthy and prepared who lost everything in a 1-in-1000 year flood who are now in just as much need.

I haven't been to town in a week, tomorrow's trip might be interesting. I'm going to be pissed if they are sold out of anal lube

I agree, they deserve to suffer.

You don't seem to grasp that the "gouging" is what incentives supplies from all over the region amd beyond to flow in.

crazy enough, for as much as people talk shit about the USA not taking care of people, currently dead people from a 1,000 year flood is 1/10 to 1/1000 of what it would be in damned near any other country.

Suffering cannot be avoided, seeking to end suffering is a fools errand

They deserve to suffer? Wow.

Like I said in another thread, the almighty buck always trumps the humanitarian for some people.

Wouldn't you know it. It's time for us to do the stock up run on groceries and TP is one item we are low on. We buy it by the bale at Sam's but haven't been for a month or more. Last time this bullshit went into hoarder mode was during Covid and same thing. I was late finding out people were hoarding TP. I had to buy a 4-6 pack at DG for way too damn much. If it gets too bad I'll shit then hop in the shower or use a washcloth. never seems to be a run on Tide so we can always wash them.

I was agreeing with your words :flipoff2:

Suffering is unavoidable. They WILL suffer. Cannot be stopped.

The thing they think they need, but is gone because demand outstripped supply and shelves are bare causes them suffering.

The thing they think they need, but cannot afford because the price is too high causes them thr same suffering. The item being available but too high of price, at least give some options for way to acquire and attracts more people to provide items

Well it's hard to tell these days. Some people here seem to be ok with people getting fucked by others gouging the things because muh profitses.

Fortunately in the hurricane situation, it looks like people unaffected are doing what they can to get things to the affected and giving little shit about their cost. Those people are doing it right.

But the people going out and buying up all the TP because of a dock strike are just fucking retarded and making life for everyone else unnecessarily difficult.

In case it matters, the strike is over and they're back at work.

Please show examples where these are actually issues in a free market, and not top down government.
