What's new

The other heavy metal music.

I got into viking metal on Pandora and it seems to fit the bill lately.

and now I have a station that is based off this song Amon Amarth - The Pursuit of Vikings.

A ton more out there. Looks like Alpine4x4 and Wulf are in to a lot of the same stuff. The first few I posted are definitely the harder hitting of what's been posted. I gotta find a few more.

And speaking of Ivan...

I got to see him do a double set at Delicious Rox is Sedalia, MO. right when he was transitioning from Motograter to FFDP. Motograter definitely had a more raw sound. FFDP went more mainstream radio rock, if you ask me.

Motograter - Red

Can't figure out how to embed multiple vids. I've posted the following bands elsewhere before. Might as well put them all in one thread as it seems a few of us are on the same page and in for more.

Obsydians is Sybreed without Benjamin. My favorite of theirs, so far.

Obsydians - Ascension

Yeah, their early shit was way better than any of the shit that happened after Phil Anselmo's junkie ass took over creative control.

Its called INFLUENCE not control.

And if you watch or read interviews it was the band’s decision as whole to move towards a heavier sound that focused on the music rather than the visuals of gay glam rock that was dominating the main stream scene at the time. Metal magic was basically pantera’s pubescent fumbling highschool attempt of finding themselves and the bending of the knee to trends of metal before finally coming into their own.

Something reminiscent of old Bring Me the Horizon

Bad Omens: Broken Youth

So I'm slowly binge listening to the bands that I haven't heard from in years. I'm familiar with and a fan of most of what's been posted, but a few are new to me (and good).

Converge was suggested. They had a song or two on a sample disc that I got from Relapse Records years ago when I purchased some shirts. At that time, I was not particularly impressed with the band. The vocals, specifically. Still, I will often make it an intent of mine to listen to at least two full albums of any band that I don't fully know. I am absolutely struck by the song below, and this brings me to the next band in the next post.

Converge - Wretched World

On that same sample disc from Relapse, Animals by The End was present. That song ended up being my favorite on that disc. I don't recall all the bands listed, but I do know that I searched for anything and everything by the bands that intrigued me. The End made three albums, if I remember right. I owned, but didn't not care for their first. Elementary, on the other hand, was a keeper.

The End - Animals

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that man.

Wayne was actually into wheeling. At the old site there was a build thread for his early Bronco, and he would comment in the thread quite a bit. I don't know if the thread exists yet, but it makes me wish he was still here even more.

Never knew there was a thread, but I knew he wheeled the Bronco. Wisconsin Death Trip is my favorite album. That and some Powerman 5000 for twisty highways.

I used to own and drive several Cadillacs. A few of them had the 4T60E. Had to get one rebuilt. Mechanic friend of my dad's recommended this guy that had just set up a trans shop in town and had a trans dyno. Took it there and got a great introductory price. Super cool dude. Before I left, he stopped me to ask if I was in to a lot of heavy metal because he saw the shirt I was wearing. He told me his brother is in this band in STL named Vampire Mooose. I've never forgotten about them.

Vampire Mooose - Portuani

And if I recall correctly, I was asked about my interest in metal because I was wearing a Black Dhalia Murder shirt

Black Dahlia Murder - Funeral Thirst

Going through some of my stash. Felt like posting more stuff that I don't think I saw anyone else mention.
