Haven't started cutting firewood yet. Have cut a few fence posts already.

Told a buddy that I'm ready to start, I need that firewood therapy. Him and I work well together and we put the wood on the ground. There's something relaxing about cutting firewood for me.

any of y'all have a preferred chain for cutting hickory? Burned through a brand new Stihl yellow chain yesterday. I hate dealing w/ hickory until it's in the fie....

burned through how? was your saw oiling the bar properly?

do you know to file down the depth stops after you file the teeth?
lots of people don't and just kinda don't realize why their chains stop cutting after a couple filings

yes... any chain I sharpen gets guides property sized... This was a brand new chain.

Have about 20 cords to knock out. Turned away orders for probably another 30.

Never have understood why people wait till it's about to snow to worry about their heat for the winter. Usually demand it right now, needs to be seasoned, needs to be cheap, hell surprised they don't demand I make sure the fire keeps going too.

Had one throw a tantrum the other day when I said I don't stack it. "Well the last guy did"

Ok? Call him then.

how that saying go? 2 saws is 1, 1 is none?

That is why I take at least 2 saws to the timber with me. plus wedges..
Ding ding ding..winner!

Absolutely positively if only one saw goes out to cut, something will happen.. was collecting wood on Saturday after the tree guys took down a couple trees in my neighbors yard.. some of the bigger stuff needed to be cut down to handle it and I found a screw in the log with the 572.. had to come back with the 066 to finish. Could’ve sharpened the chain if I was desperate.. but was faster to grab another saw

only time I go with one, is when I am not even planning to use the saw.
an option to bringing a second saw is to have a spare bar and chain

remove power head from the stuck bar, use the other to cut it out.

Im in need of supplying wood for winter as secondary heating. What would be a decent entry level axe? I'd like something better than lowes or TSC would supply, but not spend a shit ton on money. This is what the PO left

Any recommendations?

8 lb splitting maul. Fiberglass handle and whatever is cheap. 12 lb if you think you are a bad ass, 6 lb if you weigh 130lb.

That's not an ax. That's a splitting maul. I have an 8 pounder with a fiberglass handle.

14 cords knocked out this week. Another 10 to go and I'm caught up.

I love my fiskars. The metal is a little softer but it splits awesome. I have the whole set but I like the 8lb and 6lb splitting maul for getting things done. I got he 36” handle in each but there are othersizes if you want a shorter one. 28” I think

put a new handle in that one.. i linked a website to get quality wood handles if that is what you want to use

I've used mauls before but prefer an axe for splitting wood.
