What's new

Stock Corvette: 233 mph

Not enough arguments in this thread.

I postulate

The Viper is a better representation of an American “Supercar” than the Corvette.

Low volume production
Almost as sexy as a E type Jaguar
Hellacious performance and handling (not necessarily in a good way)
Won at LeMans
Nothing gives the finger to the rest of the world like putting a truck engine in a SportsCar

I look forward to the frothing at the mouth responses from the NB and jorts crowd.
:lmao::lmao::lmao:

The new Vette is even uglier in my opinion. It looks like an NSX and a Lamborghini had a one night stand and that was the result. :barf:

Nobody is buying a new ZR-1 and track daying it. The old dudes with sorts and NB sneakers are buying these to look cool at the country club.

255 is faster than 233 no matter how you slice it. With more HP and better aero the new one should be faster.....

36 years new technology.....
My around 40 year old buddy did the same track day I did 2 months ago but in his 1200+ HP C7 ZR1

Rich people drive the fuck out of some fast cars.

And dude stop about the C8, that car is fucking beautiful.

I am not saying that because I own one, I'm saying that because I own was because of how fucking beautiful that shit is. It is a really good looking car.

don't turn into one of those old guys that the only good looking cars were made when he was a kid because you are almost there right now.

this shit is sexy as fuck and kinda fast with its 670 HP and bumper to bumper warranty.

I thought y'all were referencing the Hennessy Viper drama.

There’s one that runs autocross with us. It’s a former track car. Gutted interior, custom wheels and suspension. The whole nine yards. It’s fast as f and he can drive it. :smokin:

Your friend is the exception not the rule. Good on him

I would call a 60’s vette or even a C5 C6 beautiful cars, coming from not a Vette fan. Split window Coupe would be top for me. The C8 I would describe as functional. Because aerodynamics. Has to be if you want to compete in the mid engine euro supercar market.

We lost beautiful cars when we migrated from a drawing board to CAD. Fight me. :lmao:

I admire you. You have owned some fine machinery and certainly better than some of the cars I have been privileged to drive. If I was having my second or third mid life crisis (NOT implying you are) I would buy the Vette (not the ZR1) for the same reason you have.

I don’t think you can get better value for money car less than 125k. Street car off the show room floor

Now if I had disposable ZR1 money. I would still be buying European. Each to his own. My European would be red but out of Bologna not Maranello and 200k puts me in used MotoGP collectible bike range

Should have added

Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all

My first mid life crisis resulted in my avatar. More beautiful to me than any Vette. And about 30% quicker on a lap time for about 1/4 the (my) cost.

I did have to get rid of my New Balances for some driving shoes. Is Flexy still with us? :lmao:

No personal offence to you crispins but i really truly objectively dont find it to be that attractive a car. Its no real secret I am a ford guy but GM has built some beautiful cars. I think the c6 is a good looking ride. Same for the c7 although i hated the change to square taillights. GM has built some other good looking stuff in the last 20 years. The SS. The G8. The GTO. The solstice/sky. That thing tries way too hard to live up to its trailer park Ferrari rep in the looks dept imho. I just dont think it is that good looking. And I'm not a crusty old fuck ranting about the cars of my youth. The c8 is a car of my youth. It is just an unattractive one. :flipoff2:

what kind of car was the midlife crisis? Looks fun.

The biggest drawback for the Viper is that it's not made anymore.

How's that for an argument?:flipoff2:

I'm tempted to buy a Lotus, even over a vette. The only other car I really have a hard on over is the Porsche Spyder 918.

For years Corvettes have been compared to supercars head to head, and they never were first in any class, but finished second across the board, and were a third the cost, they always finished as a well rounded second place as each of the "supercars took first".

Name me one other mass produced car that can go head to head with what is called the worlds best. Chevy builds more corvettes in a month on an assembly line with union slugs than all of the super car manufactures combined build in a year.

I am not a fanboi, and would never buy one, only because I'm more of a sleeper car guy, you can't disguise a Corvette.

You can't deny the corvettes specs. It's a big middle finger. That's what pisses guys off

Sorry Rugger, your V8 Miata would beat most stock Supercars around a track, but they leave in their supercar, and you leave in your (not so gay) Miata.

Holy shit, he took me for a ride in that thing several years back, flying around twisting mountain roads. And my usual attitude is, I don't care what you've got, or where you're driving it, you can't scare me.

He scared me that day. Ever want to know what it's like to ride in a slot car with a maniacal fifteen year old in control who just holds down the button until the car eventually launches off the track, flies across the room, ricochets off mom's washing machine, and lands in the hamper on top of his sister's dirty panties? This is as close as I've ever been to that.

Never cared for any of them (63 split window 427/4 speed excluded) and I'm a diehard Chevy guy when it comes to muscle cars and going fast. The performance has never outweighed the fuglyness in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong though, I'd love to cut up a brand new ZR1 and use the drivetrain, brakes and suspension and toss it all in a 70 Chevelle or another 72 Camaro like my old one. :smokin:
It is funny how opinions vary. I don't care for the looks of those old 60's Vette's. I do like the C8 though.

There was one at Laguna a few years back. Norwegian owner who had bought what was a grey market US car ( not sure 959 was ever US legal, I know Gates tried) and then kept it twenty years to avoid the import tax that is so high in the Nordic countries. Rugger can give pukka info on that.

Beautiful piece of kit with less than 1000 miles on it. Kinda a waste but at several million worth of Porsche so cannot blame the owner. Think Canepa had hit hands in that deal

Yeah, the NHTSA wanted Porsche to crash test two (IIRC) 959's, and Porsche told them to kindly pound sand.:smokin:

Not to bring the ghey in here, but I really wish that Mazda would get their shit together. The Miata is a viable platform. Put a turbo aluminum 6 with paddle shift gearbox and some rubber under it.
