Not to mention Biden's administration has done nothing but weaken the US since day 1. This administration has shut down the Keystone pipeline, turned it's back on our borders, laid off many of our military and first responders via mandate, drained the strategic oil reserves, weakened the US dollar as the world's reserve currency, decimated our domestic economy, repeatedly botched military actions, and on and on and on. When WWIII does kick off we're ripe for the picking I'm afraid.

the same could have been said for the state of the nation in the years preceding WWII, but we got our asses in gear.

the concern in the nuclear age is that war is the true enemy. We possess the power to end all life on the planet these days.
we're fucking dumb as a species and we're gonna wipe ourselves out because of a pissing contest.

Sadly....today, our dumbasses have farmed out a tremendous amount of our manufacturing capability to the very people we are having issues with. And have decimated our own production capabilities to the point of not being able to even help ourselves.

I'd like to think we could adapt, but I am not completely convinced of that possibility.

remove the red tape of the bureaucracy that only exists to suck as much profit out of the machine for itself as it can and we could.
that I'm convinced of.

could it be done fast enough? I don't know.
Will it matter? probably not. We get to the point where it looks bad enough that we may not survive and we're gonna take the whole world with us, and that sentiment is true for all the nuclear states.

My brain already unfroze long enough to pass this on.

Hell....I would certainly hope that everyone has more common sense than to do something like lob a nuke. Seems like a (in keeping with the theme) no-brainer. But, I will admit I have no idea what these psychos would do to save face.

Much of what I would qualify as idiotic has been redefined (or exceeded)over the last few years.

well we'd all like to think that we're rational enough not to cause our own demise, but humans have proven time and again throughout history to not be rational creatures.
Why even get to the point that we even consider the possibility? The whole point of nuclear weapons is to deter their very use.
Even talking about the use of nuclear weapons should be an uncomfortable thing.
yet here we are, using them to saber rattle in the 21st century.

I think nukes will be flying pretty soon. We have a dying breed of a generation that could give to flying fucks about anyone after them engaged in a pissing match. The people running the USA and arguably the world has shown it's ego and hubris driving things and they don't give two shits about anyone else or the generations after them.

says this is an existential threat to russia, is comparing the situation in ukraine to when german tanks rolled across the border.

not exactly the kinds of words that are encouraging to finding a peace, and certainly not the attitude that would lend itself to reason.

ukraine supporters keep saying "genocide" which is no bueno. UN decides that it's a genocide and suddenly we're UN peacekeeping force bullshit.

so far i haven't heard either side's supporters come anywhere near anything resembling a logical, rational discourse on how we're going to deescalate the current madness.
 
Our un ambassador just got up and said all the things you'd expect.
Canadian gal following up lock step with us, but she's cute.

I bet he does. If he actually begins to feel the war is lost then why wouldn’t he make the Ukraine a wasteland for a barrier between Russia and Europe? He is old school KGB and has a goal that he will accomplish. Killing a few 100k will not deter him in the name of national security.
