Rich men north of Richmond?

A guy at work just went to a jellyroll concert. Showed me the ticket for a single 24 oz white claw for his girl, $19.92. his whiskey & coke was $39.94. Fuck. All. The. Way. Off. :homer:

Went to a concert a few weeks ago and beers were $18. Ya know, on second thought I'm really not thirsty after all.

35ish years ago my parents took me to Disneyland and I remember being appalled even at that age at the prices. Like a bottle of water was $7 so I got 1 and nursed that bastard all fucking day refilling it anytime I could at drinking fountains or in bathroom sinks. It's flat out extortion on a captive audience.

I like Turnpike Troubadours. I’ve seen them and they were great.

So great I wanted to see them again. At that point they were huge.
The number of young, drunk people was full on staggering.
I’m 50 years old and damn near ended up in a fist fight trying to walk down the sidewalk.

As trendy is this guy is…. While I like the guy, fuck the crowd.

I’ll support him by buying the vinyl, but I’m not doing big venues.
And while the energy of live is awesome, the sound they make in the studio and therefore in my car or home system is so much better .

i got my turnpike concerts in before their break back in my 30s. Great times, great concerts, songs are incredible. Helps having a friend who wrote/writes with their lead singer. We were at a concert with her, and she went up on stage and sang an encore with the band. really fun stuff.

My boss saw him here a few weeks ago and said the exact same thing.

The only events around here worth going to are Minor League baseball games. Tickets are like $15 for the best seats in the park and all the food and drink is super reasonable. Beers are like $8 but they're 24 oz and all craft beer from local breweries. Can actually take a family to game and enjoy it for under $100.

Same at Disney World in like the late 90s or early 00s when we went. Everything but food and drink was on Make A Wish after my brother recovered from a liver transplant. Only thing I really remember was how absurdly expensive everything was and how insane people acted in the park.

 hadn't heard this song before, just that this thread exists. Pandora has picked this thing up even if the radio hasn't, made me laugh a few times.

good for this dude for getting some success :smokin:

I saw that and really wanted to comment something like, "I hope my taxes didn't pay for that fudge round..."

My wife took me to a NFL game for my birthday, seats were $200, parking was $145!, but at least beers and food was reasonable, this at LV Raiders stadium. The acoustics of modern sportsball stadiums are horrible, they're designed to echo and be loud for that 12th man bullshit, and God help you if you want to see a concert there. I know a guy that saw Garth there and he seid it was awful, and he's got two of the best engineers I've ever known and a virtual unlimited budget for gear. I only go to theater concerts, or watch ball games on TV...football is better at home anyway.

Yeah I've been to a couple games at Landover and wasn't impressed. The tailgating was far more fun than the games were. May go to Foxborough this year just because I've never been and my uncle has had season tickets for forever. Don't even watch football anymore, but would like to go there at least once.

Only sports I've enjoyed in person are baseball and hockey. I miss minor league hockey here, but our dipshit mayor closed the Coliseum to try to push a stupid development project that was never going to happen. Now it's fallen too far into disrepair to reopen and just sits there.

I'm going to see him. He's playing at the papermill he used to work at in Marion half an hour away. Announced the show an hour ago. I refreshed a shit ton of times and finally got the site the load. It wouldn't let me add beyond one to the cart so I bought it figuring I'd just refresh and buy more. Refreshed and it was sold out. I think I literally bought the last ticket. $33.85 total cost.

Agree. I watched his vid of Simple Man cover last night. The sweep over the crowd gave me the hell no feels. I really want to go see him at a quiet venue. Gonna keep watch to see if I spot another localish show that isn't full of drunken stupidity.

The day after cancelling the show at Cotton Eyed Joe it was announced he's playing at the Municipal Colosseum here later this month. Big upgrade and maybe his first real venue. Could all be a PR stunt, who knows. I'm still holding out hope he makes an appearance in Bristol this weekend.

He rescheduled some place that was $25 instead of the $99 Cotton Eye Joe wanted. And a free meet and greet where CEJ was charging $150.
he was offered $120k to play for an hour.

break even for cotton eyed joe at full capacity was $80/ticket.

This isn't looking good for him, IMHO.

I think that's why he said he wasn't blaming the venue and was just calling it a miscommunication. He had a buddy who is a plumber handling the booking for him and his buddy didn't bring up ticket price in the conversation.

He needs to find some folks with industry experience that he can trust to help him out or more stuff like this will continue to happen.

Plumber buddy probably just heard the number and thought "sweet!" and the venue didn't think about discussing their ticket price because they're used to negotiating a figure with the artist then charging ticket price according to that. Now, do I believe for a second that was a break even figure for them? Nope. They're not running a nonprofit. The tickets were supposedly $100. They have a capacity of 4000. That's $400k.

he risks looking like a typical celebrity hypocrite if he doesn't get in front of his...

I mean, he booked a new venue in the same town with much cheaper prices. I bought tickets to a local announced shortly after and paid $33.85. Seems like he's done all he can to right the situation. He just needs folks who know the industry to help him avoid these types of mistakes. You don't know what you don't know.

somewhere he said he never asked for that kind of money/ it wasn't communicated to him. apparently his buddy who is a plumber is handling his show bookings for now, so it sounds pretty much like a shit show.

Confused look....getting in front of it is exactly what he did. Personally I think what he has done has done nothing but cement him in to "regular" folk. I know the locals are blasting the shit out of CEJ.
