Ray Charles Tacoma build

Anyone else shake their head when they see Toyota guys with the same failures that were solved 15+ years ago?

lol they definitely needed to plate the frame or check for cracks before the trip. That runner had slider boxes for rear shackles so not sure if that also added some twisting to the frame when he flexed it out

A friend of mine just bought a built 4runner and his frame looks just like that in the pic. It will be fun watching him learn how to weld on the trail fixing it instead of the garage like he should be doing:laughing:

Or were you talking about running rear shackles still?:lmao:

I just mean the frame cracking right next to the crossmember.

I was guilty of this in 2006 when I did my first sas. Luckily I noticed that the front crossmember was about to say fuck you and go on vacation while it was parked in my driveway. A few well placed bits of angle iron can save oneself lots of headaches.

Just got back from the Tacos on the Rubicon event. Super good turn out. The event was hosted by Martec Engineering and Unleashed 4x4. Poly was a sponsor along with Trail Gear, Yukon, Stellar Build, Fox and probably a few other companies I forgot. Some of the big prizes were a set of trailing arms from Martec, full 3 link kit from Unleashed 4x4, a 9" housing from Trail Gear and a set of 2.5 IBP coilovers from Fox!

We camped at the Dirty Dozen spot at Rubicon springs. Really cool to meet new people and see all the builds on the newer tacos. Had a zip line over the river, tacos Sat night and a big raffle.

Broke my tie rod end on the driver side knuckle which took out my ram. Got a new rod end swapped in, capped the lines and wheeled the rest of the weekend with no issues then drove out the Tahoma side which was a first for me. We usually drive back out the loon side. Definitely want to go again next year!

Decided to bite the bullet and get some steering fixes before desert season.

Put in a Reid knuckle with a WFO high steer arm, also got some 1550 shafts from East coast. The stock 1480 shafts lasted me 2 yrs, found a c clip missing on one ujoint so they were one trip away from causing me some issues. I tacked the caps on the 1550s so hopefully they survive

running Synergy f250 tie rod ends (couldn't fit hiems with the bolt clearance and get enough misaligment.)

new steering looks good! so, does that mean the prototype you were running won't be coming to market?

Ya the prototype steering isn't holding up to the abuse so its not gonna be coming to market unfortunately.

The idea was cool but it was to much load on that single tie rod end holding both drag link and tie rod together

Was it just the stock ends with the tie rod flipped to the top of the knuckles?
The drag link used a long shank on it to hold both onto the knuckle, ya the tie rod was fliped and the drag link stacked on top of that

Those ends are Synergy prototypes. Not OEM

Gotcha, too bad it didn't work out, looks like a sweet bolt on way to gain some tie rod clearance and better drag link angle.

You could probably add some double shear type of tab that would help, but that would obviously not be bolt on.

chays2464 do you have any insider info if they are still going to be making the MT2s? I know pro comp is in that hoonigan BS, I see they still sell them but in like 4 dumb bro dozers sizes and 40s. I really don't feel like doing all the work to upgrade to 40s:laughing:, this tire is damn near perfect for my use!
