What's new

random food pics

Currently in Saudi Arabia. The customer scheduled a traditional Saudi dinner- two roasted goats for a party of 14. The restaurant does not allow women. The pic shows the aftermath at my "table". The front half was on our ~36" tray. The head is at the top left.

The bowl next to the nose was an excellent salsa- similar to a tomatillo but with good heat and flavor. I could have devoured a quart of salsa with a basket of hot, salty tortilla chips. The bowls at 9 and 3 are what they translated to as gravy, but were really similar to grits. The bowl at 8 o'clock is a vegetable stew. Spoons were the only utensils. The bowls were not individually portioned and we ate directly from them.

Eating loose rice bare handed without wearing it is difficult. I tried the kidney- didn't like it. I tried the brains and they were OK. They had a neutral flavor, creamy texture, and were similar to plain scrambled eggs. I passed on trying the eyes. The meat itself was very moist and cooked to fall off the bone perfection.

Breakfast inside Petra, Jordan. An uninvited guest scans the leftovers.

Food items: pita, scrambled eggs, yogurt & olive oil, z'atar spice, hummus & olive oil, a bowl of olive oil, two small bowls of I don't remember, bowl of something very close to refried beans, onions, and cheese (I don't recall the name). A very sweet hot tea, without fresh mint on this day, accompanied breakfast.

Cattlemen’s by The Old Spaghetti factory facing Hwy 50? We haven’t been there in years, it used to be a “luxury“ night out when the kids were little. Nice to see it survived the scamdemic.

And reposting a favorite meme…

I can’t remember my issue with that location, but I haven’t been there since pre-covid. I know the Selma location has failed time after time. The Redding location has always performed.

That’s the only Cattlemen’s I’ve been to. We find it hard to go out for steaks when I can do it just as good (or better) at home, unless there is a special occasion.

Same, for the most part. I’m on the road for work quite a bit, so I do have to eat out when staying in hotels.

This so sort of your area, what ever became of the Sheldon Inn? I always loved that location, and wanted to buy it when ever it was for sale to make a “destination” type steakhouse. One where people would drive to because it was special.

But I’m smart enough to know I want nothing to do with the restaurant business.

But we used to go there for lunch and drinks quite a bit a few years ago.

I don’t recall going to the Sheldon Inn, I don’t know why we haven’t since it‘s relatively close. As far as I know it’s still up and running. What we really miss is the old Sloughhouse Inn (from when we were dating in the early 90’s). The prime rib was amazing :smokin:. After it was sold to a new owner it just hasn’t been the same. It has changed ownership several times since then 😕
