Pellet smoker?

I bought a grilla grills mammoth recently. It's fuckin awesome. Fit a Mac n cheese, 2 pork shoulders, 2 racks of ribs, and i don't remember how many chicken legs but the rack was full.

Everything came out better than any BBQ place nearby

My only complaint is I couldn't get the wifi function to work and I'm not 100% convinced the temp probes are accurate.

Cooked a brisket too a few days later and it was :smokin:

All right time to revive this thread again. I am fed up trying to keep my ancient weber gas grill alive as it is mostly rust and doesn't keep a consistent temperature well. It has served well for a literally free grill but it is time and also it doesn't do smoker things which i miss doing.

I have decided to get a pellet smoker because I just flat do not have the time for babysitting a stick burner and honestly everything I have had from a pellet has tasted perfectly good. The general consensus seems to be reqtec is the way to go both here and among the people i know.

That said I could use some input on what to get. Currently torn between buying two different smaller models to allow me the variety of range to do what i want or just getting a dualfire 1200 that can run two temps and direct as well as indirect heat. Anyone have one and can tell me if it does well if the temp setting between compartments has a wide gap? Should i just get a bullseye and patio boss instead? Not really worried about the money of it as i have some money aside and other than my cars and guns this is my only other real hobby. Anyway penny for yalls thoughts.

Definitely getting a reqteq. Just trying to see if anyone has used the dualfire ones as opposed to needing two different smokers. I tend to need different temps for different things and want the ability to run at the same time.

Get the Recteq Bullseye and a RecTeq smoker. The warranty and customer service can't be matched.

Thanks. This was more what i was looking for. Opinions on if it is better to have two machines versus one attempting to do all things and potentially not being as good at either.

Sounds like you answered your own question.

Chances are your grill is 2.4ghz only and you have a combined wifi ssid. Look into splitting the 2.4ghz band from the 5ghz band. (This sounds way more complicated than it is) in your router and then try connecting to the 2.4 ssid.

Agreed. Create a 2.4Ghz network with a different name just for the smoker, printers, etc. If you don't separate, the smoker will slow down the network if you just keep the same SSID with both frequencies on it.

No experience with the dualfire but I am a member of a Recteq smoker forum and I've only heard good things about it. It seems like a really cool unit. I would check out youtube for some videos and reddit (as much as I hate it) is a good site for real world opinions good and bad.

Still loving my Deck Boss 590 here. Cooked an incredible pork loin last weekend. Recteq all the way.

Thanks. Didn't know there even was a forum for such things so I will check out that and the liberal cesspool that is reddit. No matter what I wind up with I am really excited. Been wanting one for years but couldn't justify it while the old one still "worked".

I have two separate ones. A bullseye for doing quick burgers, chicken quarters, etc. I use my RT700 for when I am doing a large cook like multiple butts, ribs, etc.

25lbs of Ribeye smoked for 1 hour at 200 deg and then a quick sear on the sear plates wide open.

Sear kits work good? Again part of my internal debate about what to buy myself is whether the sear plates could bridge the gap on needing a direct heat side/grill at all.

I'm happy with the results mine give. I'm no expert by any means. Sear kit, front folding shelf, and spice kit was the only extras I purchased with mine and use all 3 constantly with good results.

You could always get a cheap ass Weber kettle to scratch that direct heat itch. Or pick up a little propane bottle side burner and a beater cast iron pan. Accomplish the same thing.

Look what’s on sale!

Love my BFG.

I've had that thing loaded up when cooking for groups of people and I like the space available when I'm doing ribs, beans, and pineapple for just us. There's enough room to get to stuff without it being a PITA because everything is so tightly packed together.

I've had it full, but never ran out of cooking space.

Good to know. The sear is important to me on certain stuff. Steak and certain styles of chicken and pork mostly. I plan on getting the griddle attachment, shelf, and sear kit for whatever i get i think.

Thought of doing that but keeping the current gas grill working and clean really sucked. Also i am the sort of person that when I get into something I really really get into it. Often by buying myself a way nicer starting system for whatever it is than i really need. Also space on my deck and in garage are limited and having to juggle around two units seems like a huge pain in the ass. But might still wind up that way.

After getting mine, I have never used my gas grill since. Took it to the dump.

I have a smoker and a griddle. My grill rusted up and I just got rid of it.
I’m planning an outdoor kitchen build this fall. I plan to build the RT700 into the counter and want a griddle. What kind do you have?
