What's new

Ohio train derailment.

The truth comes out, Trump deregulated the trains so it's his fault.
I have been hearing that since it hit national news. Had someone on twatter say that and I asked if Trump okayed the burn of the chemicals. They got all twitterpated and said it was the best thing for the environment. I said that not my concern, why did they not follow the appropriate evacuations for this. They did a mile at most when it should have been MILES. They then said that this wouldn’t have happened had Trump not deregulated the railroads. When I asked how so when we have been averaging 1704 derailments a year since the 90’s and the same Dems are still in congress from then to now and Trump was still making guest appearances on Home Alone and shit like that and not into politics. The government’s record is horrid on safety and even TSA is worse than when it was private. Government is never the best choice. They stopped responding.

Maybe this will kill the Asian Carp in the Ohio River off. :lmao:

The groundwater in the immediate area will fail drinking water standards for a little while. No sarcasm intended. Two cars spilled into the Sacramento River up in the canyon above Lake Shasta, the State's largest reservoir. The car contained a herbicide and it was toxic enough to completely sterilize every last living thing in the river all the way down to the lake. Cant remember but it was 10-15 miles of river. completely sterilized. The river quickly washed out and the levels there fell below detectable limits quickly. The lake showed no ill effects. Within 2 years the river was repopulated with trout, bugs, larvae, algae and the ecosystem was back. The spill in Ohio is massive compared to the Sacramento River derailment and will undoubtedly soak, heavily contaminate the soil and groundwater there. This will not go away or degrade rapidly, naturally. There will be groundwater cleanup here for years. No real threat to human health but expensive to treat the drinking water or find a safe source.

I think it's amusing that they're testing wells right now and talking about how it's all fine.

like maybe it takes a while for things at the surface to get down to the wells?

I iz ignant of the chemicals that were discharged before burning. Also iz ignant of the properties even if I knew them. But the chlorinated hydrocarbons, and thats a broad brush, are persistent and hard to control in groundwater. DNAPL dense non aqueous phase hydrocarbons. The ones that were simply dumped and leaked at the Aero Jet facility near me have seeped hundreds of feet through several aquifers and spread laterally underneath the American river miles away to flood out beyond. Only diminishing by dilution. And the source was stopped at the surface decades ago. The groundwater spread at the Palestine site will be very quickly known after investigations. $$$$ But groundwater directly beneath the site is almost certainly soaked in pollutants. Lateral travel incoming soon.

I'm not 100% on their soil, I'm about 100 miles west.

all clay here. So I assume a great amount of the nasty will just drain down into the creek and be off into the rivers because there's tile everywhere. A lot of pumped above ground reservoirs for drinking water. So as long as they don't pump from the river into the reservoir for a few days while the nasty goes by it will probably be fine as far as that goes.
No idea about how the groundwater becomes the well water other than it exists down there.

EAST PALESTINE — The village fire department is rolling out a new community service to village and Unity Township residents.

The fire department is partnering with MyID to provide the service.

The MyID company touts itself as a “comprehensive medical ID solution that provides an easy way to access, store and manage your health information.”

How it works is the company sells a variety of products like bracelets, tags, stickers and wallet cards that feature a QR code that can be scanned by medical personnel to get access to your online medical profile in a few short seconds.

Creating your own medical profile is free and the profile can be linked to as many MyID products as you like.

Mayor Trent Conaway said the idea to use the service was presented by fire Chief Keith Drabick.

Drabick is familiar with the company, having used it at a fire department in Horry County, S.C. when he lived there.

“I think it’s a very good system,” Conaway said. “We have a lot of elderly people in our community and I think it would be very beneficial to our EMS responders that they can quickly pull all of the pertinent information up.”

For example, if someone falls or has another kind of emergency that renders them unconscious or incapable of communicating first responders can simply scan the QR code instead.

Conaway said the fire department is in the process of soliciting donations from different civic organizations in town to offer the products to residents.

However, people are also encouraged to purchase their own, and can do so by going to the company website, www.get MyID.com.

Conaway said the fire department is also looking into implementing a paramedic in the community program in the future.

He said that under the program paramedics would go out into the community and do things like assist the elderly with medicines, resulting in fewer EMS calls.

They have super fancy specialized hardware now. From what the people I've talked to say it's basically not sketch at all anymore at least for nat-gas mains.

Most go on like a Plidco clamp first. So you're essentially just installing a fully sealed clamp around the line in the beginning. That's not sketchy at all, it's the same as fixing a leak. Although when fixing a leak, they'll lower the pressure in the line. Underwater, you just need enough pressure to see bubbles to find the leak.

Once that's installed it gets a annulus test.

That initial clamp has a side port with a gate valve setup on it. That's what the tap drill goes on.

It's when you're drilling the hot tap that you're relying on a few seals keeping everything inside from being outside. That's the sketch that's in the back of your mind.

There is also a big difference between doing it on land with 10 union guys working on it and everyone can see, and underwater where it's one diver in a mudhole with zero viability and a crane that is moving with the boat.:flipoff2:

He was damn fine during 9/11. I can't even imagine what would have happened if one of those other pork head mayors had been on the job when those planes hit.
I was talking about dewine.

I give 0 fucks about guiliani.
He ain't my problem.

Manifest for the train, don't know if this was posted. Found on another site.

Still hilarious in a sad way that my gas stove is going to end humanity, but open pit burning of chemicals out of a train that derailed is a nothing burger for environmentalists. Wonder if this will be the green movement red pill for people, kind of like the whole it's okay to protest in large groups, but don't leave your house during the COVID lockdowns.

EAST PALESTINE, OH — In a powerful display of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, Norfolk Southern dumped thousands of gallons of toxic chemicals into the Ohio River to create beautiful rainbow-colored water.
"Wow! So pretty! Look at all those colors!" said CEO Alan H. Shaw. "We hope our valued members of the LGBTQQIP2SAA+++ community feel seen and valued by our loving gesture of support."
"Don't drink it though," he warned.
Activists and allies around the country celebrated the beautiful shimmering display at a time when many believe corporations are just going through the motions with their LGBTQ+ support. "While other multi-billion-dollar companies simply change their logos for a month, Norfolk Southern went the extra mile," said local queer activist and preschool teacher Xen Minxie. "So inspiring. Now can someone please look at this strange growth on my neck?"
Norfolk Southern confirmed there are more pride-themed surprises on the way, starting with rainbow-colored acid rain next week.

oh and we did get an answer why no fema.

because norfolk southern has pledged to pay for it.

lol.

the same norfolk southern that was trying to get people to sign a form that held them harmless in exchange for air quality testing in their home.

but that was a mistake according to NSR.

Only mistake was it went public.
