The thing about hauling ass is you have to consistently haul ass, weave in/out of traffic etc. because as soon as you got the next town and a red light here I come
.
Don't get me wrong you can make up time going faster, I don't debate that but it's hard too do.
I already told this story I think but this July we went to the river for a toobing trip. I pulled down there at 65mph on US 281 a rural 2 lane highway.
Half way down the majority of our group who was running in a convoy caught us and pulled in behind me. I told my wife I can't believe they are gonna follow me (because I drive slow) but they did for a few miles and at the second passing lane they all passed us 75+ and flipped us the bird, mooned us etc. it was fun.
As we get to the next big town they all pull in to the gas station and fuel up. A mix of GM, Ford pickups and motorhomes.
We pass them and honk and continue on to the RV park as we had left full of fuel and with a 48 gallon tank I can go there/back without stopping.
In the next 100 miles we had left they didn't catch us and in fact didn't get there with in 30 minutes of us.
Would they beat us if they didn't stop for fuel? I'm sure they would but at the pace they we're going I don't think they could without getting fuel.
I was sure to let them know how peaceful it was getting setup without them there
Again not saying it's not faster just my experience.
Going up to Colorado and New Mexico on the longer stretches I see the same cars/trucks pass me to only see them again and hour later.
I have counted up to 8 times of passing.
There are also rigs RV etc. that we don't even see again, so their faster speed obviously works for them. I will bump up to 70 across certain stretches just because there isn't shit to see or shit to run in to.
Particular to this truck 70 gets decently above 2000 rpm and the wind drag makes a noticeable decrease in MPG.
I'll test it on the new one.
