What's new

New Ford Duallys are 6+ months out?

Ford are liars... Sort of. LED headlights, for instance, are available on every trim level... True, technically. Not available on XLT regular cabs or any XLT dually. Only available with XLT Premium Pkg with Sport Appearance.

The same truck we ordered 18 months ago is $4k more now.

Fords decision making as of late is questionable. I do like our 450. She does ride rough on this pothole infested North East roads, but you hook a trailer to it and all that goes away.

2022 orders not built yet are being canceled and getting a 2023 slot when production is going to be limited might well have people waiting 2.5 years for trucks they cannot get.

If we were in the market again, I'd look at Ram right now or wait for '24.

I'm ready to get rid of my 2015 Ram 1500 eco, and thought I'd get into a 5.0 F150, (I know this is not a 1/2 ton thread). Searched inventory for Larry H. Miller dealerships in AZ. Came back with 4 F150's and over 400 1500's (with 5.7). Ford has some serious supply/manufacturing problems.

I tried to look up production numbers but didn't have as much luck as I used to.
It used to be the F150 numbers were more than GM/RAM combined, no idea if that is still a thing.

They definitely have production problem, not sure if it's by design or not.

I think most of the Ram 1500's are made in Mexico, so no labor problems.

Aren't all rams?

My buddies 22 3500 was.

Production or demand?

Seems like everyone is buy new trucks a lot more often than ~10 years ago. When I first started working around trucks, it seemed like 5-15 year old work trucks wasn't that crazy. Now it seems like 2-5 years old is the norm. Maybe because a late 90s to early 2000s truck lasted longer than these new fancy plastic computer ones?

A email posted by guy on FTE from his dealer regarding his '22 order.

"Crazy couple of years with these Super Duty's. So they didn't build the 22 order so we had to switch to a '23 You have a private offer to help offset the price difference. The problem is that they aren't building any of the trims above Lariat until April. Ans the xplan orders will be at the end of that build so it could be another years before you get your truck. The other issue that we could run into is that they are not price protecting from '23 to '24 and Ford has said they are not going to be able to build all of the orders submitted. So there is a chance your truck doesn't get built again. If there were to happen you would loose your private offer because that is only good for 2023 model years. It's a really tough situation for the xPlan pricing customers. I just wanted you to know what we are up against you didn't get surprised. I've included your build sheet blah blah blah..."

Mine still shows "in production" for this week but this week is getting shorter...

I officially requested a buy-back of my 21 on Tuesday since Ford can't seem to process a "safety" recall.
Which recall?
I got one the other day for some emissions deal and I don't think I am going to let anyone touch that if I have to keep it.

Axle spring perch... been working with ford for over a year now. Their "fix" isn't a fix and the only dealer they've been able to find to "fix" it is 1000 miles away. They literally asked me this week to drive 32 hours round trip to that dealer... and they'd give me money for food and maybe hotel... no fuel.

Wow, the lack of competent service folks is wild.

The buy back really doesn't cost Ford anything. The value of your 21 is so strong right now, that Ford will resell that car for probably more than you paid when you purchased it from the dealer, ergo, Ford's buyback value is less, or equal to, their recovered value at auction.

The only caveat (at least here in Washington State) is that Ford will be required to complete the repair and warranty (the repair only). The remaining factory warranty, if any, is not affected and remains intact.

I should also add, that it is not legal to resell a vehicle with an unrepaired safety recall (in Washington, and probably everywhere) although that happens on a daily basis with most franchised dealers, and pretty much all used car dealers.

Did you actually have damage to the axle housing? I have a M275 in my ‘22 F350 so I’ve been following that recall. I also wonder if Dana implemented a change in the housing after the recall was announced?

to be fair, structural welding probably isn't high on list of most tech's skillset/desires.

I suggested that we allow a local, skilled, certified welding place to the work subbed under ford paper. I know the person who would do it - he's well known in teh off-road world and fab words.
Ford said they'd consider paying for the labor, but the warranty would be on the company doing the welding. I am not about to give Ford an "out" for what's left of their (apparently worthless?) warranty.

"you can't fix it.. and you don't want anyone else to fix it" was my response...
should have kept the 2016... :/

not yet. But I've seen a few with damage to the tube and a number with rips... (EDIT: pictures of... not in person) over 35K vehicles recalled and Ford Customer Service is claiming they've never had experience with it. The perch design is part of the problem, IMHO... welding is just kicking the can.

Yeah I was going to suggest that but I figured it was a in-pass.

Was that Ford Corporates response for the warranty blame or just the dealer?
I think I would trust your contact more than ANYONE at the dealership to do a repair like this and absorb the "warranty" of the axle perch/welds on your own dime, stupid to have to do that but it might be the easier solution, unless they are offering a really advantageous buy back amount.

We run into this type of shit all the time at the dealership, so and so says "legal" and "can't" but come to find out when we actually ASK that "legal" issue was not based on any facts and doesn't actually prohibit us from just fixing the problem.

this is corporate customer support. They've talked to ~6 dealers now and all said "can't do it". One was trying to find a body man to do the welding (i said nope).

Part of me thinks i should just have fixed it myself, but I'm trying hard to not give Ford any additional opportunity to void any part of my warranty. thing only has 10,500 miles on it... and has 3 issues Ford can't fix... axle perch, wipers just "coming off" (that recall was recalled because the fix didn't work) and the tailgate opening randomly while driving (that's now just an extended warranty.)

I'm 100000% convinced buying a vehicle built during covid is a very, very bad idea.

Reading that long thread on FTE it seemed common for dealers to sub the welding out
What a miserable situation, the failure doesn't bother me as much as the incompetence in reacting/repairing.

exactly why i suggested it... sub it to someone I KNOW will do it correctly vs. some of the boogerwelds i've seen posted.

Honestly, I'm just waiting on feedback from my accountant at this point. If I don't have any depreciation related tax issues, I might bounce it to a new owner. Told the Customer service person that I have lost faith in the truck and ford at this point and that I'd be looking at RAM's or GMC's to replace it...

It just seems more and more that the warranty isn't worth anything. Especially if you need the truck everyday for work. I believe buying a truck with ~70-100k miles is probably the best bet for value vs getting something that's not worn out.

A co-worker has a '21 or '22 (can't remember which) SRW F350 with the 6.7L, the local dealership had him drop it off and then they took it over to a large truck shop in Rochester (Hawk Frame and Axle IIRC) who did the weld.
Not sure why the dealer near you couldn't document it's current state and then sub it out to a similar shop in your area.

no idea. it's been an interesting journey. Everything form "short staffed," to "don't have the equipment," to "he didn't buy the truck from us" (have that one in writing... it's awesome)....

I'd just get it welded by your trusted shop and then stay silent about it. Hopefully if you have any axle warranty issues down the road its far enough down the road that you can say, I had the warranty repair done, must have been a clerical error in the system <shrug> who did it? Beats the hell out of me, I've been stopping at every ford dealership trying to find somebody to do it... <concentrating face><blink>

I took a ride Wednesday with bud who is retiring from ford at the end of the month. ford can't ship super duty trucks right now for lack of chips for the windshield wipers. It's a safety issue, they can't ship a vehicle with a safety issue. Not looking good for 23 either. First thing I asked was "and nobody can figure out how to wire in a hard switch?" 😂:lmao:

I haven't updated in awhile but I did pick mine up from Granger on Sept. 26. Ordered Dec. 16th.

Not worth the risk of ford denying warranty on a $85k truck. Not giving them that opportunity. Now it’s about principle, not the 15 minute repair

Holy shit dude, I looked at your picture and thought for sure I was looking at myself in a mirror.
I didn’t think anybody else was lucky enough to look exactly like me🤪
