What's new

New Bronco reports

Yeah fuck those 6g people for making a wrong ass chart.

66-77
78-79
80-96

Then this thing

Bronco 2 is sideways to the rest because it was made at the same time.

Also I'm not sure about some of those 0-60 times. My 67 with a 289 3 speed and 3.50 gears was wicked fast in 2nd gear

This.

Im sure the new ones are fast. Pretty much all new vehicles are faster than roads allow. I wish they weren’t so gadjity.

The track width is wide, but body/interior dimensions and overall feel is all Bronco II DNA. Fair HP/torque comparisons cant even be made with a stock EB.

Booo! You can do better, Ford :homer:

yeah, i dont think they can. because right now, they dont have to. they have been talking about this Bronco for YEARs and Ford hit the jackpot dropping it on the market during COVID. They could have put a Raider back on the road and slapped "Bronco" on it and most people would be fistfighting to plop down that sweet $30k over Msrp buying price.

There is a ford dealer in auburn ny that has 15 of those things sitting on the lot.
Seem to not sell.

probably because they want 20k over msrp

there's a reckoning coming really quick. probably by mid-summer. and thats all new cars.... its already been happening but you'll really see it come July.

i give Ford 3 more years before they announce they are dropping the Bronco again because of insufficient sales. probably keep making them through the '28 model year. They will follow the FJ Cruiser reboot right into the aftermarket popularity but not popular enough to sell 75-100k units a year at an MSRP of $80k.

I’m actively looking and all the pricing I’ve seen is below MSRP on regular models and only over MSRP on Raptor.

I’d be seriously looking at the Raptor if it had a real engine but I refuse to buy an underpowered vehicle with a badge. 418 HP is laughable and sad at the same time.

oh you dont like the 3.0 ecoboost that comes with a lifetime of problems starting at around 40k miles?

you can have a gently used one up the road from me for $98k. only 3,000 miles on it. very minimal driver seat farts with that mileage.

Looked at a full size 4 door bronco with a manual transmission a few weeks ago. The cars are still in demand. Dealer salesman said sale price was +$8,000 over Window sticker ($41k window, he rolled out a $49k number) and acted like we were gonna do the deal. LOL nah bro. Same with a Maverick Tremor sitting next to it, $8k over window sticker.

That is all I got. Dealers apparently aren't taking the Ford manufacturer threat about over MSRP very seriously. The dealer had the one bronco, one maverick, no rangers, and only one 1 ton on the lot. They had an ass of Bronco sports and F-150s.

I've had a 21 Base with the Sasquatch package since September of 21.
According to the internet I should have blown everything up. I haven't and love the thing.
Wheeled the piss out of it since day with the only major issue being a VSS that went bad and was replaced by Ford for free.

Whatever dude signed off on calling those Escapes "Bronco" (sport) should be kicked square in his vagina.
This, I hate the fact they called the Sport a 'Bronco'
They are great little cars however, the Escape / Cmax pan is a proven reliable setup, but the issue is all the dumb people think the sport is the 'Bronco'.

Anyone have the new bronco? Like? Dislike?

Drove one and its quieter and rides nicer than a wrangler.

Yes, we've got two of them. Both base models, one is a Base-Base, the other is a Base Squatch.

I've got 25K-ish on the Northridge4x4 Base model Bronco (my work truck), we've had it since July of 2021. Probably close to 5K of that mileage is off-road use. Mostly backroad exploration, but also some dedicated trail wheeling too.

My wife drives the Base Squatch, we got that one Dec of 2021. She has close to 20K on it, mostly DD/commuter miles, but it has seen a few back roads and trail runs too.

No major issues with either one. They have been pretty flawless so far. Hers does go in tomorrow for a new windshield and a couple TSBs, but nothing that has caused any driveability problems.

I really like them. They are very roomy inside compared to the Wrangler. At 6'6", 230, I'm a tight fit in a JL Wrangler. The Bronco, I actually have the seat one click forward. Have never had a vehicle that I could do that with. All of them has the seat slid all the way back.

BUT.... there are a ton of little things that Ford could've done so much better on. From simple design things, like those silly round fenders to the lower front strut bolts that hang down under the lower A-arms that just make you realize they didn't have any real world wheelers help them with their design.

Wheeling wise, I have got this Bronco into many spots beyond what I thought it was capable of and this thing doesn't even have lockers yet. But then the Wrangler do exceptionally well too.

The Wranglers have way better visibility due to the front end shape, but that's always been a huge plus with the Jeeps.

Working in marketing at Northridge4x4, I get to drive and wheel Wranglers, Gladiators and Broncos often and have a bunch of cross-platform mileage on them both on and off road. They both have their Pros and Cons. Jeep has been doing it for years and their engineers understand off-road better. But if Ford keeps at it, I think they'll be able to level up the Bronco even more.

Either way, the competition has been nice. You see Jeep doing a lot of reactionary changes to try to show they are still #1.

I just ran out and checked. EB and 21+ are both 57" interior door to door. Outside of fender to fender also roughly the same ~66"

The Bronco II was a few inches narrower. This is my Bronco II from back in the day. EB axles and V8 were damn near plug and play.

Bronco-BroncoII.jpg

And just because I'm a Bronco II fan. Old magazine article I saved.
BIIMag.jpg

I've got that issue tucked away too.

Had a BII quite a few years ago, for what it was, I really liked it. Kind of keeping an eye open for the right one for a wheeler project.

It'll be interesting to see if your prediction comes true.

It's also interesting to see all the hate from people.

It's a huge market (Jeep Wrangler) and Ford would be silly to exit it fast. If they could just get the production issues fixed, they'd be doing really well.

We have zero new Broncos in stock and 5 used ones. Seems they are basically new, but have probably been devalued. Most miles is a little over 1k. 2 are 22 models, the others are 23 models. 2 Outer Banks, 2 Black Diamond, and one Big Bend.

yeah, i dont think they can. because right now, they dont have to.
I wasn't talking about the new Bronco overall - I think they did a good job there.

I was only talking about the claymations on acid that are the Braptor fender flares.

i just dont see the appetite for such a niche vehicle to continue over the next few years at a clip of 100k units sold a year, but maybe im wrong.

if there was, i dont think they would have discontinued the Bronco in the first place. i mean, it was a pretty popular platform in the 90s among offroaders and campers etc. but that doesnt translate to overall, pure sales numbers being financed through Ford dealer financing at 8-9% or whatever. Eddie Bauer edition had some creature comforts for the time, but it seems Ford now has about 17 different version designation with the Raptor and the terradactyl and the badlands and the goodlands and the middlelands or whatever.

right now they are riding the nostalgia of the old EBs and the kids who rode around in their Dads 2nd or 3rd gen bronco. Kudos to them for a real stick shift though. thats pretty badass.

i think it would have been even badasser if they would have stuck a Coyote version or the 5.0 in there but maybe they have and i dont know enough about them. all i see are these turbo 3.0L or less engines that i know from my experience need way more maintenance than they should. have a couple of the ecoboosts in the fleet. maybe they improved them out of the F150?

To me the front coilover bolts scream "bean counter". You can tell they had real wheelers helping on this project, but lost out to parts bin specials to shave costs. Same with the rear lower coilover brackets.

They definitely are forcing Stelantis to make upgrades to their wrangler, pretty sure they have been plenty content with just releasing new sticker packages and special edition colors to keep their fanbase happy for far too long. Two years after the Bronco release and you can now get marine grade vinyl seats, rubber floors instead of carpet, factory 35's, and a 12" screen. Would that have happened without the Bronco, maybe, but likely not as quickly. They are losing market share, and had to change quick to try and maintain what they have.

Anyone know what's with the weird assembly line chocks?
Seems like a crazy overkill design for little to no benefit.
Looks like it's a track that the vehicles get moved down the line on?
Rounded enough that they won't cut a tire, big enough that you have to work to jump out of them?

I'm guessing the Exploder is what put the FS Bronco out to pasture. It was slightly smaller, more efficient and more maneuverable and it had 4 doors.

Ford just got sidetracked with the Bronco and going full-size. Had they just kept the design idea of the EB and slowly grew it (like Jeep did with the CJ), the Bronco would've been an entirely different story. Same could be said of Toyota and the FJ40 Land Cruiser.

Total opinion here, but if Ford had put a live axle under the Exploder/Ranger platform, making them easy to lift and modify, they might have been the most built mini-truck/SUV platform out there. The Ranger edging Toyotas and the Exploder being the first 4-door before the JK came out.

Jeep will always be Jeep (well at least I hope so, who knows what Fiat will do in the future) and Jeep fans will always buy Jeeps. But if people want a Wrangler type vehicle and test drive both the JL and the Bronco, the Bronco will win them over with the on-road ride and drive and the power.

Bronco was replaced in 1997 by the Expedition, which was on the new jellybean era F150 chassis. The choice was driven by the success of changing the BroncoII to the Explorer in 1991. At that moment in time, larger SUV sales were skyrocketing

I haven’t either, that has to be incorrect

But I have been wrong before. We have all kinds of weird Bronco’s in our stable but never found a 79 bull nose.

New here, but I have had close to 20, 78/79's broncos. Ford did not make a "dentside" 77 or 80 bronco.

Yeah but why not just split a pipe and weld that down or weld down a piece of L-channel?

Seems like a lot of time and labor in that design. There must be a reason for it. It might be some dumbass reason because UAW workplace but a reason nonetheless.

Appreciate the fair review but that last sentence couldn’t be further from the truth. The problem is the bean counters in corporate have veto power and in the end they have the final say. This guy is on the design engineer team employed by Ford.

It’s interesting talking to both Brad and Loren because they both work with different tentacles of the same beast. Brad told me he can’t get away with some of the stuff Loren does, can’t believe Loren gets away with some of the stuff Brad is under explicit direction not to do.

Agree.

Another big factor that will keep the new Bronco around is the removable top and doors. That's what really puts it in the same market as Jeep. I don't see this cash cow going anywhere, short of a major economic collapse, which isn't off the table...

That’s not the question being posed. Was there a Bullnose Bronco with a build date in 1979 as the poster says?

If they need to strap the tire for some reason, that design would be convenient.

I wouldn't put it past ford. More likely to see a 78-79 badged as an 80 because they had parts left over.
