What's new

new 7.3 gas ford

Over 40 gross on this one. It was way too much with no trailer brakes. Slow ass ride to the house knowing I may have to ditch it. Probably 28-30 gross up and over raton pass. Power is fine, just have to let it eat. And it’s just a tow rig, I keep others for dding.
That’s a BDL story if I’ve ever heard one. That’s a 7.3 gasser and no trailer brakes because they are air brakes on that equipment trailer? I’m not scolding you or anything. Impressed. Raton pass? 7.3 gasser? What was max speed on that trip?

It was a BDL for sure on the tracked digger Derrick set up. I can do raton pass as fast as I want.. but as you are aware of, you have to let the bitch rev. No one is ever waiting on me, I’m rolling.

You tow that trailer with that truck more than once? For anyone not following the dots I’m trying to, and that GR1 here is trying not to define. That’s a 45,000# rated trailer meant to tow an excavator behind a 40K# dump truck. Empty that trailer is heavy enough to just push that truck right off the road in a panic brake situation. Again, not scolding. Impressed. I have that same ish truck with a 6.7 in it and I wouldn’t want to pull that trailer with it. Not because it couldn’t “pull” it. But because it can’t operate the brakes on it and I’ve been pushed off the road before.

It’s a 12 ton rated back hoe pro with the multi max suspension. I bought that digger off internet pics, when I went to pick it up, it seemed to have grown. But it is less than 20 miles to the house, so I said fawk it.

I picked up a 30k pintal hitch trailer like your describing a few months back. I thought it was electric brakes. Well they pulled the air lines off it. So I went to Napa bought some t bolts and caged the brakes and drug it home. I was surprised how well the truck did. I’m still looking for a 40k trailer with electric brakes. I’ll put farm tags on it and probably overload it also.

Some heavy equipment uses hydraulic over air for something. There is some sort of hydraulic over air valve they use for the transition. Some Aussie company was building their own version of that to give pickups air brakes for BDL shit in the outback. Never looked into it too much but that's probably easier to do than find a 40k trailer with electric brakes.

I borrowed a buddies trailer that was electric over hydraulic disk brakes. I put my D6b cat on the trailer. I sent one buddy out 2 miles ahead and another following a minute or two behind. I was pulling it with my 01 duramax 3/4 ton. I took it easy and after I got up to 45 or so, I decided to check the trailer brakes. As soon as I pushed the lever over, I damn near shit. It was like someone dropping a few tons in the bed. I was amazed how well they worked.

is anyone dropping the 7.3 crate motor in older body style Van or trucks?
My buddy Loren Healy has one going in a 4 door Bronco with the 10 speed from an F150. The 7.3 is physically smaller complete than either the 3.5 EB or 5.0 coyote. A 5.0 yote cannot be fit into the new bronco without elongating the front clip. The 7.3 fits in the factory space with room to spare. It’s kinda sickening

Raffing at the camber those rear trailer tires are showing. Did you bend the axle?

That's impressive.

My Coyote F150 is a big bitch, but I love that engine. It's going to get a Boss intake, TB and tuned headers with a custom tune, should pick up 40hp.

I was going to do exactly that to mine. Then I thought I needed a fancy gooseneck race trailer so I bumped up to a powerstroke instead. I still want a Boss upgraded CC/SB 1/2 ton. I just can’t afford to have both.

That Rousch SC is no joke as well.

More than that on E85 if it's still FF

Some old tag trailers run a pair of shorty stub axles per "axle" Could also be that.

Pic is of an M9 trailer but you get the idea.

It is FF, but I haven't seen E85 around here for some time. Haven't been looking for it, and I'm sure there's someplace that sells it, but a lot of the stations quit carrying it.
Is that because nobody uses it?

I have 15k on my 22 f350 platinum. 90% of the time it is hooked to a trailer. I was coming back from Colorado last week. 26’ foot hydraulic tilt deck with a light load on it. Running 90 mph getting 10.8 mpg. I am happy with it.
That is pretty impressive. I had a 35 gooseneck with a Hyundai Tuscan and my 74 Ventura that I pulled from Co to mi. I was getting 12ish until I hit Iowa and then the hills dropped it to 10.5. I would guess 16k pounds with cruise set at 82 in a 24 ccsb diesel Chevy 3500.

Once I move from Colorado to lower elevation I am going back to gas trucks.

He may just be far from corn country.
I know Houston TX still has E85 falling out of their asses. Now that you mention it I haven’t seen E85 in a long time but I intentionally avoid it

I only know of 1 station locally that has E85. And we are in corn County

I would guess so. Less MPG's for not a lot less $. Only guy I know that used it was my buddy Kelly in his 8.60 drag car, I pitted for him a couple times and would help him getting staged and that shit would burn your eyes if you got too close to the exhaust.
