What's new

new 7.3 gas ford

I don’t care for the way he talks down on all of his competitors. He might have some good knowledge, good ideas, good products. He talks like all the worst business people I know. He leads with disparaging comments and name dropping to the point I can’t listen to his videos.

Dude has some accolades, trophies of real accomplishments. That should be his legacy but instead his focus is on who and what they are doing wrong.

Well said

It's the thing where "if you're the best, don't worry about the rest"

I also can't stand the people that think thier way is the absolute only right way to do things.

Because the average user would be clogging the dealer's service department the moment they saw the temp reading begin with a "2":homer:
The exact reason bmw deleted the temp gauge with the move to electric water pumps and computer controlled thermostat.
People would freak out if they saw it running at near 220 cruising down the highway and then immediately drop to 180 when you get on it and then back to 220 again.

There are ways to do both...

I didn't mind the chart... thought that was helpful

Don’t know if it was posted but ford is offering a $100 gift card for 2021 vehicles with the 7.3 they misrepresented the hp and rpm numbers by 15hp and 100rpms.

It's legit. I am happy with it. Removes some of the "deadness" of the factory DBW. I found a setting I liked and left it. Haven't touched it in months.

Neighbor put one in his 7.3 after driving mine a bit.

Would I spend the money on one? Dunno. This was in the truck when I bought it....
Can the tune be removed so the dealers can't track it?

Can you elaborate? Was it a simple misprint somewhere?

Put 600 miles on a 2020 E350 with the 7.3 and six speed, it loves to chug along in 6th @1500 RPMs. The cruise control was miserable on hilly terrain. 1 mph over targeted speed and it’s on the brakes and then it’s back on the gas and then it’s all I’m going to fast so I better put on the brakes again and then it’s back on the gas. :shaking:

You need to add more cargo weight to break the feedback loop.

That's what you get for driving too much vehicle for the load. :flipoff2:

Wonder if that can be tuned out?

I set the cruise control on my 6.2 6speed and then put it into 'manual' shift. so it controls the gas and I control what gear its in. works for me, as long as I don't let it drop 10mph below the set cruise speed it works out great while on super long drives. the cruise will always suck in hilly areas its not looking ahead at that next hill, but its easy for you to see and downshift manually...

this is loaded at around 22k, cruise will really hunt gears and double drop gears. selecting the gear stops all that and keeps the trans happy. yesterday I drove I15 to I90... st Anthony ID all the way home. 14hrs at 65-70mph. almost all using cruise control.

i'm very interested in getting a 7.3, but really I'm plenty happy with the 6.2. the only time I can really feel it needs more power is at elevation. not bad on the passes around home that get to 3500ft ish, but getting above that you can really notice the power loss. the tallest pass I went over yesterday was at 6800ft, and that really sucks the life out of the motor. a low boost turbo would be awesome for what I have, but maybe the 7.3 has enough extra power on tap?

Looking into it I could’ve turned the radar cruise off and maybe that isn’t so aggressive with speed management. Tried it with tow/haul on and off got the same results, was just a rental. The engine has plenty of low rpm authority to move a load. I was just impressed with the gear holding, the 4r100 behind the v10 is downshift happy. 5r110 behind v10 is better but the 6r140 is tits in my short experience.

Yep, that is the one thing I don't like about my 2001 F350 V10 4R100...when it drops to 3rd, the RPMs go up 900ish. Then it is hard to get it to shift back into OD sometimes, depending on speed and conditions.
I have been trying to find info on doing a 6R80 swap behind my V10. But the info has been pretty limited. I know I'll have to get a trans controller (US Shift Quick 6) and shifter mods to connect the shifter to the tranny, and it looks like driveshaft mods would be in order (at least I haven't ran across any info where there are bolt in factory driveshafts that will work). I would think that 6 speed with double ODs would be a perfect setup for me. I just wish I could find some info/write ups/pics from someone that has actually done a 6R80 swap behind a V10 in an early SD.

Theres a 460 with one on this forum. Lotta good info in that thread
:smokin: I'll have to check that out.
I've ran across swaps on other forums where they put them in old Ford pickups behind 460s, in 90s Mustangs, etc. But the tcase compatibility or lack there of was kinda what I was looking for mainly. Then OAL of the tranny and whatever tcase needed to be used. Then that would lead to driveshaft mods/fitment.

I would think getting the driveshaft modified to work would be the cheapest and easiest part?

Probably would. But I was just trying to cover all parts of the swap, before I started gathering parts. So I would know what parts I needed to gather.:cool2:

I did too
Not like it's any different on YouTube.
Most of them seem to lack experience and general automotive knowledge.

Started listening to ccf almost a year ago, 3 mid 30’s guys talking shit about cl & fbmp cars. The stuff they don’t know makes me question if they ever had any interest in cars, but maybe they didn’t waste their time absorbing useless information.

Guy was laughing that a truck bed trailer had a truck axle complete with differential in it, the builder was supposed to throw that shit away and buy a brand new axle for their truck bed trailer. :homer:

The search is pretty good at filtering mislabeled bs.

not bad for stock
