$3xx for the reg+tax and $3xx for the insurance. 20% down on a 1yr policy that would be $1800 or some shit. Liability + collision. If it were me I would had paid the whole thing up front. I think it was like $1400/yr if paid in full.

WTactualF, that’s as much as I pay for 10 cars/truck/trailers.

Most of that $300 registration fee is a one time sales tax. Renewals are like $60 for 2yr or some shit.

They must charge sales tax on what they think it’s worth instead of what is written on the title? I know if I buy a $500 vehicle that is going to be like $40 in sales tax

In Ohio it's the sales tax on whatever is written on the title. Now they've started flagging things they think were sold too cheap and then sending a bill in the mail. The kind lady at the title office told me the system doesn't flag anything under 300 dollars. All my shit boxes are now bought for 300 dollars.

They use NADA value if greater than sale value.

This time it's not my money so I don't care.

Are you going to build on this success and fix the subaru that's only got 3rd gear next? That's likely a wiring issue too because 3rd is the hydraulic default when the transmission has no electrical input. Does the AWD act more like it's in 4x4 and bind on tight turns? When the TCU isn't powered you get 3rd and 4x4.

The 3rd gear shitbox is FWD from the factory so IDK about binding on turns. IDK about mechanical default but 3rd is also the electronic default so it's what you get when it detects a problem (not sure if that's true in '00+ stuff)

I had problems with the 3-4 shift solenoid in it for ~3yr before it finally threw the code and gave me 3rd only. Frankly I kinda like it because it still goes highway speeds but there's no chance of speeding tickets or killing myself with a BDL now.

Found an inspection station that'll take a bribe for the Jeep but it was closing time so they said "you can pay us to be reasonable another day". Go to drive it there today and the front windows won't go down from the driver's switch. :shaking:

It was finicky but worked more often than not before so I had a switch on hand to replace it with and no change. Pretty sure it's the wiring. Of course both the front doors use canbus modules to actually run their shit so that makes this extra obnoxious. Nothing that runs off the "front" connector (picture and pinout below) on the window switch works. The power mirrors still work so it's probably not the module or the power supply to the module or anything like that. I just can't wrap my head around what between the module and that connector could fuck off in a way that makes everything that runs through that connector stop working.

Falling window lock switch?
I have two to A & B test. No discernible change in reliability.

Wiggling the harness on the door, the door card and in the door frame did nothing.

I'm thinking it's the connector since the offending pigtail is mysteriously the only door related one you can buy on Rockauto and it even comes with the little kit of heat shrink and butt splices like the blower motors and Ford coils and all the other "we expect a lot of people to have to replace this in the field" shit does.

I have seen a lot of wires broken between the drivers door and the body in grand cherokees
Yeah the internet said the ZJs do it a ton too. I couldn't affect the problem one way or the other by gripping the loom and fucking with it though.

You need working windows to pass inspection?
I don't know (and I'm not reading the fucking 100 page PDF manual) but I assume the driver's not going down is a non-starter.

I'm gonna bribe the guy but I don't wanna make it hard for him.

01 gc here doesn’t work with the door open, works flawlessly while closed for now, until that break gets too big.

Tried that. And every position in between.

It started reliably working and nothing I did changed that when my girlfriend went out and started fucking with it around 5pm so maybe it'll work tomorrow when I go to get it inspected after work.

It’s not a reason to fail in PA, fwiw.

Passed inspection in a way that John McAfee would approve of.

Parking brake doesn't release properly and the drums thump as it goes around which was great on the drive home.

And now I get to drive down to Trenton to knock out a power steering pulley because these winners can't scrape up five hundo to have a real mechanic do it. :shaking:

To be fair, they didn't ask for my help and don't know I'm planning to help and there's a slim chance of the old man getting it done with a rented puller/installer Tuesday night I'm not planning on it.

The car otherwise gave good service for a month or so, no teething issues, which I think is pretty good for something that sat in the woods.

I would bring a pump, too. Something killed that pulley
