Moon Rocks and lobster boy

My uncle was a little kid during WWII.

He found a stray shell on a railway track when he was 13, and went and picked it up...it blew up in his hand and sent shrapnel into his body. A US Navy Sargent found him and saved his life by rushing him to a hospital where they amputated some digits and pulled the shrapnel out of his body. Look at his right hand in the pic.

He became an renowned chef, even with his messed up hand. He was the Executive Chef at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite for almost 15 years.

Navy doesn't have sargents, more than likely a petty officer.

1977 to about maybe 1991

He would have been in tenure during that same decade when my uncle visited the Ahwahnee, which was at least once a year, all the way up til his death in 2002. I took him on his last visit to the hotel in April 02.

Did the guy with shrapnel in the chest survive, icu,?

Backpack guy sure peaced out pretty quickly. lol

Yep. I saw that after I watched it again. He took one glance, saw what happened, and cut bait.

The guy with the backpack is the guy that took the shrapnel to the chest. But I don't think he is an innocent bystander Like people are saying. Looks to me like he was the one who lit the mortar.

loomed like the kid who fucked his lung, liver, and chest was the guy on his right.

Looks to me like the fuse is burning from the top of the mortor tube ,it also looks like he is palming the base of the tube. there is more than one reason this happened but i think with no firm resistance to the blast of the launching charge it just blew out the bottom and took half his hand with it . i see a tragic injury that lobster boy will have a life time to deal with ! play stupid games win stupid prizes .

Kinda like the pick of the fingerless RIGHT HAND!
The fact that hype sells is stupid!
And or THINK MAN!:stirthepot:

Wrong mortar for the tube. I have seen my share of idiots putting a mortar in the tube upside down, they never blew out the tube. I bet they put a mortar that was designed for the fiberglass tube in a cardboard tube, which obviously can take less pressure. Use the right tube, lower it in by the fuse, simple. These don't appear to be members of the local mensa chapter though.

nope. upside down

the charge did not lift, it's in the video.

the looky charge ignited in the tube, tube would not have mattered

I think I’m with the internet detectives above. There’s still five digits in that X-ray.
So how do you explain the pics of people holding his finger up (not attached to him) the following day? Or the post surgery pics of his new club and pokey thing?

I'm no surgeon, but I'd guess there was so much damage/ missing tissue/ ligaments/ etc, that while the x-ray shows the remaining digits, there are few more remaining post reconstructive surgery.
If that's even an x-ray of the victim.
