Cop pulls up and proceeds to search us. In my truck, my loaded pistol is in there. Cop finds it and puts me in cuffs.

I carry a lot, gotten tickets, sped, never been searched. what did you do to get searched?

Did you do anything that gave them any consent to search?

I have had a vehicle searched one time, and even then I had refused permission. They did it anyway, but they had no probable cause.

It would be one of the “you can beat the rap, but you can’t beat the ride” scenarios.

Not me, my friend has his stupid little brother along and his brother popped off a shotgun toward a little equipment shed.
Apparently a worker was in that shed and called cops. This is on top of a mountain with no people, no vehicles, just what looks like a brick building. Have no idea where worker had parked, maybe he was dropped off.

Anyway, sometimes cops cross your path for reasons outside you.
Sometimes you may get in a car crash because other driver hit you.
You never know when the gun in your car might surface itself to the eyes of the law.

I got in a minor car crash as a drunk passenger and the cop used the fact that I was obviously shitfaced and theoretically could have been behind the wheel as an excuse to search.

I was really fucking drunk and when he said "you don't mind if we inventory the car" to the driver I piped up and said we don't consent to any searches. He didn't like that. :laughing:

I'm not sure if that's better or worse than on you. Legally better, sure. Likelihood of being found seems way higher though. I feel like there's not many cases where you'd be getting a pat down where they wouldn't also rifle through the car. Could get ejected in a crash. Car could get stolen while you go into the store, etc, etc.

I'll take my chances while traveling. I'm a white haired older guy. Gen x before you start!:flipoff2:. But my papers aren't in the console. So that takes some of the perceived risk out of the equation.

The NY thruway authority is mostly glass and just about the right distance set back from the highway for that shit. Wear ear pro and have the gunner sit on the far side of the car so all the noise and shit stays inside. :laughing:

Nah. These people live in a perfect world where they are perfect and nothing unperfect ever happens.

Back when I lived in California (Los Angeles County) You couldn't get a permit. I carried, cause L.A. County. (Moved away in 1997)

Now I have a permit here in Colorado. I don't carry near as much. But I'm thinking lately I'm stepping that up.
