Matt's Off Road Recovery.

I don’t know if he’s still doing it, but there was a guy at the old place who had a white 79 Ford wrecker, I believe with a factory front 60, efi 460 and zf5, and a rear dana 80 out of a dodge. I’d like to see how he did at this.

Are you thinking of a yellow square body on like 37s? If so the owner Joe Osuch passed away a couple years ago, the covids got him.

Yes but after Joe passed a few years ago someone in his employ picked up the ball and ran with it. They were at KOH this year same as every year just like Joe used to do. Joe recovered my busted ass in 2015 on Jack Hammer.

Nice, I'm glad to hear someone took over after his passing, he was definitely one of the good ones out there.

Isn't that the Moab mall crawlers kamel tow(or however you spell it)?

I swear I saw them doing recovery at the shootout a few years back... Or there's a very similar one with a rowdy motor in it also?
 
Watching another video of the games, it cut to where Fab Rats ended up rolling their Rodeo over with a dude inside. Instead of stopping, he chose to back into the roof of it (where the driver was sitting) to push it back over..then ended up continuing to pull forward while the Rodeo was on its side, which just rolled it onto its roof.

Dude inside the Rodeo is lucky Paul's poor decision didn't get him hurt or killed.

Dave Hollywood Hellman is the KamelTow mall crawler guy with the rowdy square body. I don’t remember him doing recovery at KOH but he may have. This the one you’re thinking?

Yep. I'll have to go back and see if there are any videos of the shoot out the year I saw something similar dragging competitors out

Of course, it’s free money to attend as a competitor. There is a little coven of YouTube channels that contains Matt, Paul, Rory, and Robbie, with an honorable mention to Erik from BSF. Merlin and Chad have done a lot of work for the coven and they are trying to break in as well. Oh yeah, then there is Rudy, who has a quarter in his pocket and is trying to find himself.

I think with Merlin and Chad group gets way too big as it dilutes everyone’s content. So let the other off road wreckers do their own thing. Not everyone can attend the same party.

Merlin is far enough away that he might only show up on Fab Rats every now and then.

I can't stand listening to Chad's wife laughing behind the camera. Rarely watch his channel.

nOOB observations:
From what little I know about YT; a YT'er can pay big money (turbo charged) to YT to steer a ton more people to it's channel.

In his own right/on his own accord; Matt is popular, but my W.A.G. is he turbocharged his channel to really kick up the viewing numbers.
 
After watching several YT channels chronicling Day 2 of the wrecker games, I have come to a conclusion.

Rory recovers disabled vehicles over the rocks. The others simply drag heavy, awkward loads over those same rocks.

It's the difference between a surgeon and a butcher.

I thnk those other guys now understand that off-road recovery like this requires more than a big truck with a boom.
 
+Whatever on Rory and his crew being pros. I have been a fan of Trail Mater's for several years and the stuff those guys recover without hurting the vehicle is pretty amazing. I think part of the appeal to me for Rory's channel is I have been on those trails so when I watch I know where they are talking about. As someone said Rory is driving a manual trans too and just gets shit done.
