Matt's Off Road Recovery.

Oooor....they already know the fix and are waiting for parts, but they can drag the trial and error out over a half dozen new videos. That last "testing" video made him about $15k in ad revenue.

I get what you're saying. Most people think he's in uncharted territory.

I don't see slightly bigger out puts holding up well once he's dragging an 8k lb dead jk off the trail.

Like carter is saying, he needs waaaay deeper gearing. Part of the whole point of those axles.

How much bigger are the ins/outs on it?

SCS has a good drawing on their website showing all the dimensions, but the case is about 20" wide and 4.5" thick, its surprisingly heavy at about 100lbs. They have about unlimited gear selections I ordered 3.33:1 ratio in this one. One of the downsides to the SCS is the lack of a high/low option but I'm hoping to use The Overdrive ratio in the trans for driving trail to trail. One benefit to the SCS design is that its easy and not too expensive to change tcase ratios at $250 for a new change gearset. I'll be using it behind a 4L60 I built. I'm sure someone will be here shortly to tell me that it'll never work with that piece of **** transmission but I got 8 years out of the last 4L60 I built and its still going strong so I'm gonna stick with whats been working for me.

Deeper axles make everything better for him. Does anybody know where he got the axles he’s using? If they came out of a forklift or something with that gearing it’s somewhat understandable. If he ordered them that way on purpose it lends some credibility to one side of this debate.

I'm in for the education though, I will admit if I am wrong.
He's got some beefy front and rear drive shafts, 1480 or better I'm guessing.
but the puny little output and stub shaft on the mid drive shaft is going to just keep twisting off like crazy.

I believe they're axle tech 4000s, military use usually. super common in big ass buggies. They have gearing from like 4.xx to 12.xx, I'd be looking at swapping the planitarys out first. I think they have a lot of options there.

I don't know where he got the axles but he has some parts from Western Canadian Rockwell so...

from their site
NARROW AXLETECH AXLES

  • 5.65 GEAR RATIO, 85" WMS, 45° STEERING, DISC BRAKES, AIR LOCKER, CENTRAL TIRE INFLATION
  • No narrows are available at this time

What’s he up against in the off-road tow truck Olympics? Is the guy with the old white ford wrecker from the old place going to be in it? I could probably find the attention span to watch that.

I tried to figure out the wheel end options on a AT catalog and could only see the diff ratios, 2.49 was the max I believe. That would be a big help to 8.84:1

Rory from Trail Mater is in it, some dude from the East Coast Mud park and the fab rat dudes and layton guy I think to.
I enjoy show, haters gonna hate.

Matt did mention he needs to have it run down the road at 60-70 mph, what gear would work for that and still have a respectable crawl ration?

70 mph on aired down 54's and hydro steering, yeehaw

Going to a 8.84 axle final ratio seems to be much improved.

Wonder if a guy could plumb in a system like what some of the log trucks are running around here.

Flip the switch an it drops the air to whatever psi its set for.

Flip it back an the bitch airs back up.

He could solve his problems if he just called Marlins and picked up a set of ultimate duals:lmao:
:flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

Seriously though, his whole gig is showing how much smarter he is than the establishment.
early on using a small jeep and a yank strap shows it, and as he repaired it he never follow established practices, and always had a smirk like he knew better.

So this falls right in line with that.
except now there is no downside, his "growing Pains" are only making him money, so no loss.

Just my .02

It wasn't lost on me when I started watching him I was thinking "damn that's not what I would do" but then POP he had them pulled out and on there way while I'm sill looking for rigging gear...:homer:
