What's new

Javier Milei / Argentina

If you are a capable leader of a country that is making hard choices to become a world leader, then attaching to another's currency is probably a bad idea.

However, if you realize you are leading a country of children who already sucked all the money out of the treasury and are just as likely to do it again, then having currency control out of reach is probably a good thing.
but you're still giving away whatever percentage of your wealth to the money printer

where starting a new currency based in fixed amounts of some strange and foreign "argent" element
can't be inflated away, even if your monetary policy is retarded

Again, I think you are obscured by seeing it through a lense of your own beliefs.

I dont see a modern currency coming into being without a fed reserve or reserve bank or whatever behind it. So even if it is your own currency, you will be paying that percentage anyway. And keeping the filthy theiving leftist hands out of the currency control may be a good thing for the current situation. Not that we are free of that problem ourselves, just earlier on the downslide that results of it.

As an aside, did he mean the US dollar or some Argentinian currency that is termed dollar?

you should read up on money more
inflation can not happen with a fixed currency
the only way to make more money available is to produce more of whatever commodity it is linked to

multiple sources mention the USD

The problem is getting other countries to accept your currency if you want to participate in the world economy. Because the world economy has operated off the USD for so long it's nearly impossible to introduce a non-fiat currency that will work in the global economy because the physical assets don't exist to backup a currency to the amount you'd need. It's a huge drawback for everyone but us. The USD is basically a pyramid scheme, sucks if you're not at the top.

Even if the goal is to create a non-fiat currency in Argentina in the long run, he's not doing anyone any favors by just switching to a made up currency overnight. Going USD does a lot more for them in the short term.

They have oil… correct?????
Do what white colonialists do…..
….. sign over oil rights to purchase dollars!!!!!!

Currency growth can be from different sources, not just inflation. Inflation is just a magical method akin to keeping a dragon in a tin can. Sounds great until it gets away from you.

Argentinian inflation is at 143% or something and growing fast, well on the way to Zimbabwe. They cannot fix this and clearly are less than responsible about it. Pegging to the USD will take much of the problematic issues out of thier hands. Volitility reduced. If they are fortunate enough that it works and they start expanding their economy, they can expand the money base by buying dollars. Not an efficient method of market expansion, but a controlled one that requires surplus to accomplish. China did this up to 2005 at which time they suddenly became enlightened, stopped pegging to the USD and have been on a currency rollercoaster since. For Argentina, it would be monetary therapy and they could get off it in teh future if they either are successful or the dummies get back in power.

How do you distribute currency you've created without it being counterfeit in nature?

with any issuance of fiat, you're creating false valutia

What, legally?

You know the US does it all the time right? Push it out through debt swapping, through the CIA to nefarious individuals, arms trades, etc.

The USD is the most counterfeited currency on the planet. African countries use USD as common currency, that didnt happen through all legit channels.

What is a few more off-green greenbacks? To quote a wise, prominent, historical figure:

As much as I don't trust holding usd for my 15-30 year plans, I certainly plan to use it for the next 3 years to accomplish some goals.

We bitch about the fiat currency, but most of us go to work on Monday so we get usd 3 Fridays later

It would make a lot of sense for Argentina to do the same, looks like they have abundant oil and coal, some industrial metals, and lots of food exports, and a dash of tourism, I imagine the dollar would treat them well, even with global inflation in the western world, it's like a bonus for them, they can raise their prices, or hold them and sell at a discount gaining market share

He must be okay....

quick Google search shows rolling stone headline...

"Tantric sex and dog cloning: a guide to Argentinas Trumpy new president: :homer::homer:

What were you doing down there? Working? Tourist?
Missionary for about 2 years.
Was interesting, neat people down there (I was mostly in the Southern /Middle parts of the province of Santa Fe and the northern parts of the province of Buenas Aires), but not much to see where I was (flat farmland mostly once you left the cities).

When I was down there it was 3 Argentine Pesos per $1 USD and most places had no problem taking USD.

When I went there in August it went from 260:1 to 350:1 in a week. :lmao:

It was 60:1 back in 19.

You bet your ass they were happy to see dollars. The hunting guide straight told us to only bring dollars, not bother with pesos. We paid $17/box for shells and shot 40 boxes a day, so he really didn't want to deal with a duffel bag to make $4k. :lmao:

you don't seem to understand my question because I've phrased it far too autistically

When money is introduced into our markets via official channels, how can it be done without being equivalent to counterfeiting?

I did, just got off the phone with him. There may have been some gloating too

I don't have a ton of faith in Milei. I hope he sticks to libertarianism, but I'm not holding my breath. There will likely be revolts in the country if he tries to reduce the size of the Argentinean government.

Also, I highly doubt the president and whatever small majorities he may have in parliament allows for such radical reforms.

Hopefully the checks and balances down there work better than they do up here…

Who the fuk are you kiddin!?!? We are currenlty handing that out all over the world. What is a few more BRRrrrs of the printing press?
Isn't there a bunch of nazi descendants down there? We seem to like to hand money out to them these days.
