Interesting tools for sale.

Atlas shaper.

With the vise and stand, that's an easy $1500-2k here.

Maybe asking price. I feel shaper values are overstated. Dad has several complete ones in 16-32” sizes. Nobody wants them for the 3-5k they are supposedly worth.

Because those weigh a ton and are hard to move and most hobbyists don't have room for them. The little baby ones like that Atlas are all the rage and sell as fast as they're posted.

People say that but.... that one's still posted.

yup. Shapers can make everything except money.....the big shops don't want 'em anymore and the hobby guys don't give a shit enough to rig and move the thing.

Two old lathes of respectable hobbyist size for $300

"Calls only" but doesn't put a phone number in the contact list. :shaking:

I wish that was closer to you. I'd ask you to go buy all these and toss them in a flat rate box for me.

Probably same guy as the wrenches.

Pretty sure there's an IBB member in the western half of CT. Torreadorranger is in the southeast corner.

Your rpc is delta 3 phase, not wye. Google says you can run a wye transformer on delta and just leave out the neutral, but I've never messed with sich fuckery.

Ad says it's 30kva, not 60. 30kva at 480 is about 36 amps so I imagine it'll run just about anything you'd be looking at for a home shop.

Yeah I typo'd the KVA

Either way it's more horsepower at 480 than the RPC I'm building so should be good to go.

Not sure how much wire it'd take me to recoup the $300, call it $400 installed.

Series 2 Bridgeport for $500.

Those are only good for CNC. No manual control at all and with ball screws, no way to add them. And obviously would need a full control refit.

Still a smoking deal and another if it was near me I'd already be on my way deal. Even with the shitty pics I can see enough parts on them that I'd keep for backups for my machine that it'd be worth grabbing them just to part out and scrap the casting and electronics.

So....when are you coming to pick up that payloader? :flipoff2:

He has a lathe of equal age and condition for $800

Watch my trailer thread. A couple months after you see me doing stupid shit with it.

If you need it gone ASAP just let me know and I'll grab a Uhaul and grab it over a weekend.

Only if you can pick up a couple bridgeports along the way. :flipoff2:

That lathe looks nicer than my Mazak and I paid way more for it. :shaking:

What would a CNC refit cost?

Those have steppers and you could do it relatively cheap with Mach 3 or 4 and the right break-out board. This thread has info about using the original stepper drivers using a board that can output the correct quadrature signals. Theoretically it could be done for a few hundred bucks plus the cost of the Mach license....or whatever controller you end up using.

Or, do what Duc did on the one I bought from him and scrap everything and use new(er) servos, drives, VFD and add an encoder for rigid tapping. Then you're looking at a couple/few grand depending on if you can source the right surplus hardware from ebay.

If those were local, I'd snatch them up, at a minimum because the parts are worth way more than they're asking and the casting could probably be scrapped to break even. Assuming they have the QC spindles, the damn locking nuts on those are going for $300+ used on a ebay and the complete spindles are probably worth close to a grand a piece if you don't mind sitting on them for a while until a buyer comes along.

Edit:

Derp. For some reason I read that listing as 2 machines and it's just one. Still a decent deal, but not as good as I convinced myself it would be.

arse_sidewards offer him $1500 for the bridgeport and this, haul them down to me when you pick up the payloader and I'll sell the Enco and pay for your gas. Bet I could get $2500-3k for the Enco down here.

I did a little research and they made a series 2 as a manual machine and a r8 collet. Seems like a lot for 4hp

A manual series 2 is an absolute beast compared to a serries 1. But they don't really share anything in common with a serries 2 CNC. The one in that CL link is 100% cnc.

This. The ram, or lack thereof, makes it obvious.

Yep, they did make ram type CNC machines, but not any rigid ram manual machines.

I'm pretty sure the CL one is the same casting as mine. I'm a little fuzzy on the different generations of controls...but that doesn't matter as the electronics are all pretty much scrap any way.

Power hacksaw for cheap.

Ran one at the last company. Thing always worked but was slower than a horizontal bandsaw plus blades were a little more difficult to purchase. Cool pieces of equipment to watch.

Is there anything that those are better at compared to a bandsaw?

Price. They seem to be ignored in the used tool market and sell for cheap, especially at an auction where are are HZ bandsaws. The blades are cheaper than a bandsaw too, and they are easier to get to cut straight. I had one for a while but sold it for floorspace and bought a cold cut (Evo) saw. I now have bigger HZ saw and the EVO saw and they cover my needs. I do occasionally miss the power hack for random small jobs. It did a good job and was already reliable, just slow and was heavier than my cold cut saw and I was fairly limited on space at the time.
