The tree guys who clear the power lines all use them. Plugs right into the lift.

I figure it's probably less maintenence and operating cost.

Power company themselves use them also. Most of the bucket trucks have hydro hook ups for various tools.
The hydro ones kicked ass, prior to that we had air saws, they were the worst, but still better than a fanno hand saw.:lmao:

Hydro if you were in a bucket, Air if you worked off the pole.
I carried a two stroke for awhile, now its all battery.

and yes filled with veg oil thats what divers under water. never seen them used for anything other than cutting derelict piles
We used them on our line trucks, the bucket trucks had hydraulic lines run to the boom controls. Also had a hydraulic drill to match.

Both were cumbersome but nothing would stop them.

Veg oil because the government employed safety vest wearing fine issuing types who need to catch a bullet make hydraulic oil not worth it or because there's actually some benefit?

HETG requirements on most marine jobs. Its biodegradable. In college, as a testing inspector,(I ran a geo vibration monitor to make sure the pile driving company wasn't damaging nearby million dollar ocean front homes) and one Feb morning I watched an 85 ton APE vibratory hammer blow a main line and the guys next to the pump couldn't get it shut off for a few minutes. It pumped all 300 gallons of hydraulic oil into the surf in Virginia Beach. From my experience with dirt work, I thought the job would be shut down for a month and I wouldn't have to be freezing to death out there for a few weeks straight. Turns out there was minimal concern because it was Veg based oil and I was back on the job the next morning.

Does it perform as well as normal oil?

Sounds like there's a business opportunity for someone in a foreign country to sell cheap hydraulic oil labeled as biodegradable.

this. but we can saw and throw as much bar oil and sheen into the water as we want, even on refinery docks. none of it makes sense to me.

i believe its much harder on the hydraulic system. many of the out side contractors would rather change out all hydraulic lines on their machines run reg hyd fluid and just put a 'bio hyd fluid only' stickers on them.

the big power packs running the spuds and vibe hammers always get veg oil. too much potential for huge release. but a mini ex pops a hose, that can be made to go away quick... there is a reason there is dish soap in every cab, rig box, skiff, push boat, etc etc. even alot of the refinery dock workers carry lemon gatorade bottles filled with yellow soap "zero report able spills this year":lmao:

You need to load up a trailer and bring as many of those as you can carry down here. I'd double your money. And then I'd double mine.

Sadly, they're pretty much only worth scrap these days.

Saw this one on FB for a month or two. Then I found it in the scrap yard. This is probably the 5th one I've seen there. If I had more energy, I would have pulled the chuck off for .45/lb

If you have the tooling to go with it pretty useful, but different. Drilling and threading it really kicks ass.

I've got a square top #3 warner swasey that i enjoy more each time i run it. Some odd job comes up and its like "hey im real good at that". So many cool features.

I have the Atlas 20T version of this Greenard. Will admit it is a very useful tool. This is very near me too. Like, very.
