What's new

Interesting tools for sale.

I want this but with a newer horizontal mill under it and a J-head. Though frankly I could still do a lot of shit with something like this. Just need to get rid of the Cincinnati first...

It's kind of hard to over-state how nice the horizontal makes some otherwise really shitty jobs in a automotive hobby context.

Fuck me if I didn't have so much shit to do this week I'd be on my way to pick that up right now.

1k is steep for that janky thing. Looks like you pull the little brake part to punch inside the frame?

Last one I saw that was that big had two carriages on it. Old, old machine shop closing down and nobody wanted it. Randomly met the guy that finally ended up buying it like a year later and he told me he kept the chucks and a few parts and hauled it to the scrap yard.

How do you lift a lathe that long without turning it into a pretzel? Two cranes?

That thing is huge.
It will be fine.

It's rigid enough to do accurate machining with pretty substantial loads on various points of it. It'll flex a little bit when you lift it but not enough to damage anything.

Not the capacity, but the machine itself in comparison to the swing and bed length. The Monarchs usually have a bit more weight to them. My 13 x 48 Colchester was 2900 lbs. The slightly bigger Monarch I looked at for a minute that a friend had, that was a 14 x 48 was over 5k lbs.

My 17 x 78 Colchester is 5200 lbs. A similar size monarch is closer to 7000 lbs.

Goddammit. This is almost EXACTLY what I'm looking for, it's got the taper I want, horizontal/vertical capability, slightly smaller footprint than the one above, though I'm unsure of the power feed status (it should have at least two), but I still have the Cinccinati taking up space. :mad3:

Should have hauled the Cinci down here in the Prius. I could sell it for 5x what you're asking for it up there.

For the chance to get the machine you want, just hose the cinci down with rusts inhibitor and move it outside under a tarp....and eventually scrap it. Because you know damn well once you sell it, you won't find the right replacement for another 2 years.

Auction for a number of reasonable size CNC machines and tooling. Ends Nov 1st, so if you are seeing this after that - too late.

Fuck. That's very close to me. And that smaller Mazak is the same machine I have sitting here waiting to be wired up....meaning the tooling package would work on my machine. And I'm assuming that Haas mini mill is Cat40, so the tooling would fit my Fadal as well.
