I'm trying to put 5.38s in a 2005 Dodge 2500 9.25 axle. My understanding is you need a spacer to run IFS GM front gears to get this ratio. No big deal. But I happen to have 4 or 5 9.25 IFS front diffs laying around. Can I just steal the carrier from one of those to avoid a spacer? If I buy a new carrier (posi or selectible locker?) for a IFS diff will that negate the need for a spacer? Just trying to figure out my options before I spend $150 for a spacer I may not need.

Part # GM9.25-538R from USA, Yukon, or Nitro. 5.13 is also available.

Both are 33 spline however I don't know the pressure angle. Both diffs are made by AAM so I'd assume they are the same.

  • Direct fit for 2007 and Newer Dodge 2500 and 3500 with OEM carrier Only
  • 2003-2006 Dodge vehicles using this ring and pinion on an OEM carrier require MRG 925A ring gear spacer or the 07 and newer type carrier NC-AAM9.25-COM
  • 2007 and newer Dodge 2500 and 3500 will still require MRG 925A ring gear spacer with aftermarket air locker such as ARBRD197
Interesting copy pasta from Nitro's website. Apparently the dodge carrier changed in 2007.
