Hurricane Milton

Buddy got his genny going. Said he has 87 and pane on hand. Hoping the best for him and fam. Not entirely sure of where my aunt is living now. She'll have to deal with this, too.

And it looks like it's going to drop below 900mb... one of the strongest on record.

that puts it 5 on the all time list for Atlantic hurricanes
only the 1935 made landfall at under 900

This is craziness. Work still wants us to travel down, to be there- which I can see and not too worried about being in Orlando. Problem is my hotel check out is for Friday, now the show is saying our move in date is now Friday. So I have no problem going down, but not having a hotel room - slight problem with that part.

I will get there before the storm (tomorrow) but still. Convention center I am sure is a solid place to be, so not worried there, as is I am sure the hotel I have, just need more hotel time. Completely crazy all in all though.
You tell those assholes that this former Florida resident says that that is wholly irresponsible considering how stretched thin the resources are going to be after this thing moves on. Expecting you to go there and ride out a Cat 5 with no resources to contribute after (other than your volunteer labor) is just ignorance about what is about to happen to Central Florida.

And taking a hotel room from someone trying to leave the coast

Better keep it high and dry.

That blows someone is too poor etc. to leave.

Hate to say it, but I bet it gets stronger when it rolls over the Loop Current tomorrow sometime. That's where the really warm water is. Milton hasn't hit the warmest (most energy filled) water yet.

Not my call, and I assure you they do not value your input. Hell they barely value mine and they pay me for mine :flipoff2:. Everything I am seeing is that it will be dying out as it gets inland, and moving quickly. So it will not be a Cat 5 over land (not dismissing it, just saying that I do not expect to ride out a cat 5- or at least hope not)

Rooms have been booked for 6+ months. So not really the issue there. I did look up rooms for Fri- Sun and there are TONS of them in the Orlando area, so again not taking any rooms- best I can tell ???

I am far from thrilled with it all, but this is not a last minute thing we decided to do this week. This has more or less be in the works for the last year, with tons of effort, time and $ vested. I fully understand why we are moving forward, not that I agree with it 100% but I get it.

Latest I have seen say it is heading south and as it hits Mexico (again) it is expected to die out, bad for MX good for FL. No one knows until it happens though, so time will tell.

Where’d ya see that?
Don't recall which of the many I have been listening too- I think one from here, but looks like if nothing else it is already coming closer than originally thought, so hopefully it takes some of the snot out of it. I am not a weather man, just listening to all the options and hoping for the best.

I think I experienced a Typhoon when I was stationed in Korea. For some god only knows why reasons I want to experience a big hurricane (from a VERY sturdy building of course). Gods speed for those bugging out, prayers for those choosing to stay 🙏🏻 .

As of 0100, it's moving East at 9mph. All the upper level steering currents are driving it east. They are "expecting" it to turn to the NE at some point. Hopefully they get that part wrong.

I've rode out every single hurricane that has rolled through here since I moved here in '99. Cat 3 was the strongest I've stood out on the street with the rain gear on. I live about 10 miles inland from the coast, maybe a bit less. Cat 4 I'd probably stay. Cat 5, I'd get the fuck out of here. That's a fucking 50 mile wide tornado when it comes down to it. I've seen what 175mph winds did to port Fourchon, it almost took it off the map.

Here's the problem with the direction that Milton is going in. As I said earlier, it's headed for the Loop Current.

That's a supper warm current in super deep water. There's a fuck ton of energy there. It's over 10k feet deep in that area. Back when Katrina went from a Cat 3 to a Cat5 in a very short period of time, was when it passed over the Loop Current. Hurricane Ritta blew up into a monster after traveling over a smaller eddy current that spun off the Loop.

That high pressure front has it capped and heading straight for Florida. Question is how strong will it be?

Looks like the same pattern as Helene, the storm will hit after several days of heavy rainfall. Not good.

Yup, this is ugly already and going to get worse. :frown:

So while we wait, what's the thoughts on the conspiracys of this storm and Helene being manipulated?:flipoff2:

I'm not saying I'm sold on it 😂 but I keep on hearing about them. but it's the same type of conspiracies as the Hawaii fires. Apparently the land the was hit the hardest in the Carolinas is wanted for a lithium mine. And st Pete where it's probably about to level is supposed to be one of those 15 min city's.

And for the earlier comments name one storm, even a tropical storm that formed near Mexico and went west to east.
You can't, it just doesn't happen.
