What's new

huge explosion in Lebanon

Dove. Someone translated what he was yelling and it was basically telling the people he was with to jump in the water.

Do explosions above water have an impact under water? Something I never really thought about. I know sound goes 2.5x under water...

Read through that thread on reddit, there's a lot of debate on whether or not it's safer. I think the general consensus was that it's safer as long as the explosion source is out of the water.

Dad's a Navy diver. His uncle is a Master Chief and Master Diver. I'll have to run that one by them.

Add to that there was a breakwater around the harbor between the explosion and the jetski(much less percussion underwater),taking a dunk was the right choice.

I know this is two days old, sorry i'm behind, been a busy week dealing with possibly totalled boat from the hurricane, but that crater looks like whatever was on that ship did the worst of it, not in any building.

That large rectangular ship centered over the location of the future crater is a building

I see that, but that morphing visual shows deeper water under the small ship beside the warehouse..the other footage i just quoted when i might have changed my mind, that's the warehouse. The morphing clip does make it look like that small red ship was the epicenter, that last pic i quoted looks like the warehouse blew.

There's a ton of vids online showing the warehouse as it goes boom.

It was the warehouse that blew, also I just noticed that ship to the right is on its side

What about the fireworks going off in the exact same spot as the explosion? These folks ARE dumb enough to store the two together.

Stop using your first world minds to try to figure out what happened. First you'll need to hit yourself in the head 6-7 times with a claw hammer to get down to their level.

What actually surprises me, is that it doesn't happen every day there.

I worked with Egyptians the beginning of this year. My conclusion was that there is no fucking way they built the pyramids. Not a chance. Maybe they could be used as lubricant to slide the multi ton blocks on, but that's about it.

It's a whole different world over there and a whole other level of stupidity. It's really scary.

Heres a few more pictures of the aftermath, I know its a ton of pictures but they are good quality.

Yeah it was docked right there in the water prior to the blast, surprised it didn't get obliterated

There was some video early on with cars overturned on the freeway, they had tree branches stuck in the front suspension... I wonder now if they got blown up and over and then onto that freeway.

I made a 7 frame of the first part of the explosion. Yes it's 6MB.

Damn! Those windows being blown out of the building closest to the camera on the side facing away from the blast  I truly am shocked the death toll isn't higher.

I've always wondered if the ground shockwave got there before the air wave, and this video confirms it for sure. That camera shakes on the balcony long before the shock hits. You can see it in other videos of this explosion but this one is definitive. That ground wave went through the earth and up the structure of that building in half a second or so I'd guess. That's wild.

There are 2 main explosions. The fireworks explode en masse with what appears to be some AN. That then detonates the rest of the AN

Back to the ship sitting off the water......how does that happen?

I still don't get it:homer:

How was it in the water? The waterline didn't drop dozens of feet so how did it get up on the land.

I’m guessing the explosion pushed the water out away from the dock, then the water came rushing back and over what was left of the dock. Like a storm surge in a hurricane.

Ok, I can see that happening.

i know dick about ships but how does that thing not tip over during all this sitting on land like that? I guess you could rig it after the commotion, but during.....
