What's new

huge explosion in Lebanon

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/202...tys-hiroshima/

"Lebanon's Head of General Security says the blast was caused by a fire in a depot of highly explosive material, including Sodium nitrate, at Beirut's port. He said that material was confiscated from a ship months ago and stored there."

How stupid do you have to be to store that much explosive material in a port in a major city??/ Oh, Lebanon, nevermind..

At least in this video, the camera/phone operator doesn't turn and run as soon as it goes off.

I always assumed you couldn't kill a Yokohama fender, now I have my proof.

Aftermath.

I was expecting more glass in the aftermath.

In that video, the ground shockwave gets there before the air shockwave. That is incredible. It literally shakes the guy's house before the boom. You observed the same things in the Tianjin explosions.

That's good information if there's ever a nuclear war, but I think Nuclear blasts are high-energy enough that the air shock actually does reach you first.

Good info here:
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zon...h-beiruts-port

There were probably fireworks there, but was not the main explosion which some are saying was some nitrates or something. It's obvious that one smaller fire (fireworks) set off something else a little more boomy in the area given the thing was already well on fire prior to the big bang.

In before Everboob blames the Israelis

Or gives us a step-by-step of how everything actually happened. In the six months that led up to it.

edit - and how he would have done it better of course.

You are both so retarded that you appear schizophrenic. Literally making shit up about me.

I live rent-free in your heads, but it's cramped quarters.

That blowed up, that blowed up real good!

Story is stored for shipment on a cargo ship. Kind of makes sense since the huge wall of water. I have no idea how fireworks are contained when shipped. But that shockwave certainly looked like munitions to your point.

Check out fire works factory explosions in the US. They are violent and send up a mushroom cloud just like the one on the video.
I was witness to one in Hallet OK in the 80s. All the factory personnel died instantly that day.

Well here is an ammunition ship blowing up for reference.

I love this damned video. You can see the camerman is filming a kamikazee before one hits the SS John Burke. They got him tumbling and on fire and he still hits! Pilot was probably already dead.

20mm and even 40mm is useless against that, you have to blow the engine into pieces with 5" proximity-fused shells fired on radar directed computers to eliminate the threat. 40mm is no fucking joke either, it's not a pea-shooter. But you have to shatter the engine block and blow the fuel tanks apart well before it gets near the ship.

I forgot the story on this but he's on a fast-moving ship, probably a DD as that's even faster than a Destroyer Escort. He crosses that line of transports during the clip, they're moving probably 30+ knots. You can see his wake, they just made a turn, so maybe it could be a DE, that is a really tight turn.

Blows my mind that that shit all went down. War sucks but goddamn is it a spectacle, and the Pacific War is by far the biggest spectacle of all.

I've seen two Yokohamas a bit longer than that but about that size squashed up against the metal beam piers on the carrier pier at Mayport. We had a hurricane and the winds were building from the south for 2 days. The second day, they put two Navy YTB tugs out in the basin with huge towing hawsers going back to Saratoga, and just had them pinned, pouring black smoke out of the stacks pulling it off the pier. They brought fuel barges out there to re-fuel them while they were running. They stayed like that for over 24 hours, I'd say close to 36. I walked over to that side of the basin and the Yokohamas were flat up against the hull of the Sara, and the metal horizontal beam was dug into those yokohamas like.... you smushed a wrench into a package of Jimmy Dean sausage.

They never popped. They didn't even change them. It bent those metal beam pilings too. The Sara's hull was pushed in as well but that could be from age and use, they're pretty reinforced at that level for that reason.

Anyway, those are some tough mofos, they should make 747s out of Yokohamas.

The RT link has guys standing in front of plate glass windows but they do wisely turn away before the shock shows up.

Obligatory mention that the Halifax explosion, and classrooms of children standing in front of windows to watch the action, is why the Blind charities got so big in Canada, and inspired in the US as well. :frown:

Explosions rocking Beirut. Yawn.

I wouldn't piss on Beirut to put a fire out...:flipoff2:

For most people on social media history only started 10 years ago at the most.

That still applies, before the late 1970s, Lebanon was not only the most liberal Islamic State in the world, it was an actual paradise. It's not the fault of the Lebanese that bunches of terrorists and Mossad decided to make Lebanon their battleground. Literally NONE of the terrorist groups started in Lebanon until years of terrorist warfare started them there. If people are constantly blowing up your children, you WILL form a terrorist group.

Out of all the Islamic bullshit going down in this world, Lebanon is by far the least guilty.

But you Professors started watching the news in the 80s and never even bothered to read the wiki about it. So you think Beirut is some type of terrorist breeding ground. The terrorists there are literally immigrants and refugees.

Beirut has been a hot bed for violence since the 70s that's all I was saying so your self righteousness is misplaced yet again. :homer:

I love seeing the pages of BS that everdouche writes and scrolling right past them. He gets less quote replies than Gary. Talk about irrelevant

How do you see it as self-righteous? You think and argue like a woman, always personality-based.

I was discussing an idea. The idea is, that Beirut should not be written off just because foreign mercenaries and intelligence agencies decided to have a war there. To remind you of the progression:

People - Children and morons talk about people and personalities
Events - Most adults can and do discuss events
Ideas - Us Intelligence Elite almost exclusively discuss Ideas

I like to slum it and talk about Events, but they are usually based on Ideas, except when explosives or military ordnance is involved, then I just talk about events because who doesn't like things that go boom as long as it's not directed at you?

You assumed I or the others you quoted were talking about something we were not. You like to think you're smarter and more educated than you come across as which says you're self righteous in my book.

Saying Beirut has been a hot bed for violence for 40* years is a simple statement of fact. Not picking sides or pointing fingers it is just factual. I don't care what the order of progression is in your opinion.

3rd world idiots. Let's just store some seriously explosive shit right near the civilian population. :homer:

The Hollanders have done the same thing. In fact that's the first fireworks factory video I can remember seeing on the internet, hell that might have been in the last millenium.

The Dutch are effectively the most advanced nation on earth.

Dude, I didn't say one word about terrorist breeding ground. You been skipping your meds?

Those fools had literally tons of ammonium nitrate stored in the same area as fireworks?..... Really? :homer:

You can't fix stupid.

:lmao:

If the politician that got blowed up in his office was the guy that made the decision to store fireworks near ammonium nitrate, he should get the 2020 Darwin award! :smokin:

Shit has been in storage since 2013????? WTF.... :homer:
