What's new

How long is reasonable to wait on a shop?

Or I could just drive out there. Not like it's that big a town.

Go get the fucking thing. He's NEVER EVER EVER EVER going to start/finish it so get that out of your fucking head now. Either take $3k worth of his shit when you go get the truck as repayment or kiss your money goodbye. YOU ARE NOT GETTING THE MONEY BACK EITHER....

I told them refund my $$ and I'll come get it or do the work.
Well.. still waiting.
Last info was waiting for the ground to thaw out to get working on it.

I told them a month ago they have until the end of July to have it done to my satisfaction So far nothing. I'd guess there's a solid week or actual work, plus design and sourcing materials, so probably 2-3+ weeks all told.

On the fence now if I should contact a lawyer or??
I cut out the unimportant parts.

How well do you know this person?

If you don't get any response by the deadline you gave them, I'd consider it stolen for the sake of filing a report or however you want to handle that.

Find out asap where it is physically located.

Stopped reading, if it gets shitty I bet he can file a mechanics lien depending on the amount of paperwork either of you you have for storage. If part of your payment was for a trade hopefully something is documented and it is not all verbal

I cant recall the last time i took a deposit although i am occasionally offered one. I realize other trades are different but giving a 50% deposit is risky.

(cabinetry and furniture trade) I take a 50% deposit on every job just to put them on the schedule. If it's too risky for them, not my concern and they won't be my customer.

Yup. I'm 50% depending on what and who. People seem to remember what was ordered when they pay a lil up front.

OP run up to his place and see wtf is goin on. Might be as simple as just taking your shit home. Might not. Only one way to find out

No shit, did OP get a receipt on this transaction? If not, OP is fucked.

Fairly SOP. We did same with custom lumber at the sawmill.

The problem with saying it’s stolen is the guy can do all sorts of things in retaliation. He can make up all kinds of bs to tell the cops if and when they show up at his door. At this point, he doesn’t know if the guy is sincerely trying to screw him or he’s just an idiot. Locating it and determining how it can be retrieved is the first order of business. After that, he can decide if he wants to take it further. (By whatever means)

The OP mentioned that it’s a small town. I suspect he could just drive over there and drive around and find it. Very possible it’s not inside a shop or even a fence. Definitely worth a drive.

Still not that hard to find somebody, or where they park their stuff. 30 mins on the phone talking to folks that run the same circles and he'll most likely have it found
Dude.

If he posted up what he knows about the shop and the guy, we could find him in two minutes.

No idea what kind of game the OP is playing this time around.

That’s where the “how well do you know this person” and “find out where it is asap” statements come into play.

Just take some buddies or law enforcement with you for retrieval so the shop owner can't say "he came at me and I feared for my life".

I think some of you boys are a bit paranoid these days:lmao:
My grandpa mined gold in AK every summer from the mid 60s to the mid 80s. He said he knew of a couple of guys who got caught helping themselves to the claims sluice box and ended up dead buried in a tailings pile with a D8.

Lots of area with small population means no witnesses and easy to disappear someone.
