How Did You Know You're Getting Older?

So what does your diet look like?
Won't work for everyone (and I don't even know if it works for me but it helps compared to what I used to intake)
I don't eat.
Well, that's not quite true, but I average less than 1 "meal"/day. I eat nuts (not peanuts, usually almonds or walnuts), jerky (low/no sugar), and string cheese. Little bits at a time throughout the day. A spoonful of peanut butter if I get cravings that protein and dairy won't tackle, 40oz jar lasts about 2-3 weeks. If I eat a meal its eggs, meat, or vegetables. Limit seed oils as much as possible, use butter in place of it. Sugar free caffeine (pop, energy drinks, black coffee) and water.
Don't be afraid of fat, be afraid of sugar and empty calories.
I haven't lost the weight I wanted to, but got a ton of energy back and feel like doing much more at the end of the day.

Yesterday:
Nothing to eat at all until supper. Supper was 5 eggs and a couple of ground sausage patties. Drank a couple zero sugar monsters between morning and 8pm.

When you log on to IBB and recognize screen names from 20+ years ago on PBB, CK5, ORC, the toyota 4x4 mailing list or whatever and you remember events from these peoples lives that happened before your kids were born and when you actually used to get out and do silly stupid offroad shit in your 4x4 that more resembled a post apocalyptic masochist dildo then the production vehicle it was based on.

Nothing about that diet sounds healthy...

That's because you need your .gov to tell you how to eat.
Look no further than 'heart healthy' grains...
You think syrup and poutine is good for you, so your opinion doesn't count:flipoff2:

ETA: High protein/high fat diets aren't for everyone, intermittent fasting isn't for everyone. I should cut out the artificial sugar, but I can't drink black coffee all year. It will work for many people though, and what the .gov wants you to eat has more to do with lobbyists than health.

ETA2: Had a full physical 2 months ago. All my bloodwork looked good, no signs of the 'betus (slightly worried because of the weight and diet for a good chunk of my adulthood), blood pressure about the same as it was when I was getting sports physicals in HS.

Fuck some of you are some broke dick old people:flipoff2:

I'm mid 50's and only recently needed readers, 1.25's. I can't run the distances I could, but still work out daily and feel mostly OK. Very little gray hair and still have a full head of hair. I will say if I drink a lot one night I don't recover like I did in my 20's. I also have to admit I spent all weekend splitting and stacking firewood and needed to take today off:homer:
Gonna work on one of the trucks instead

You smoke? I got carded buying alcohol until very recently, of course when I graduated from HS I looked like I was 10 y/o too.
I used too. My asthma is too horrible at this elevation to continue that bad habit.

I got carded for ginger beer, which I didn't know had a reason to card for, while wearing a mask during covid.

I got carded for cigarettes at 51yrs old.
Its a Governer fawkface mandate if your under 40.

Some dumbasses claim its the law also missed the under 40 part. Terrables seems to have ran with it and you have to scan your ID across the board for any age restricted purchase. Clown world, im sure the scan is added to all kinds of lists and databases that will eventually bite us in the ass.

No, but normal diet should have more veggies and less fats in it.

Not saying I'm perfect, I do alright, a bit too many sugars (damn I love cookies lol) but otherwise fairly balanced and I've been steady weight for the better part of a decade.

When did that come about? My incident was in 2018.

Here one place needs to put in a birthdate for alcohol purchases. One cashier got popped for putting in the SAME birthday for every purchase so she now asks.

i still have a spring in my step
i still feel young
i still look young
i still act young
i still have young energy

Until any given day, everything hits at once.

My shoulder hurts? My thumb is sore? What's wrong with my knee? Is that a cramp in the arch of my foot? OWW!

It all happens in the same day, occasionally, then it's back to feeling young again. :homer: I attribute it to compromised overall muscular well being, and that my workday no longer consists of busting ass.

Vegetable don't keep, have them when I'm home.
Supplement with a one-a-day vitamin. Again, bloodwork says I'm fine.

Fat is not the problem. Fat satiates your cravings and keeps you from overeating. Sugar (especially HFCS) doesn't "flip the switch" telling you that you are full. There's a reason that obesity rates have sky-rocketed at the same time low/no fat has become something normal.

There are plenty of studies (not .gov or big food funded) out there over the last couple decades saying that for most people, I'm more right than wrong.

EVOO for eating/sauteeing and avocado oil for frying/baking. You can thank me later. :flipoff2:
Animal fats are best. All seed oils produce carcinogens when heated above a certain temp.

That being said, when I do use oil I use olive oil. Can't talk the wife into getting rid of the veggie oil though as "that's not what the recipe calls for".
Like I told her, all recipes were converted from lard and butter over the last 80 years. Grandma's special pie recipe was using lard and butter until she got cheap.

I used to get carded by the same cashier every night. Finally called him on it. He told me he didnt give a fawk if I showed him a library card. Just as long as the camera saw him look at something.

I thought he was just dumb:laughing:

There's sugar in everything. Breads. Processed anything. Cottage fuckin cheese for cryin out loud.

He who cooks from scratch is ahead of the curve there. He who prepares food from roughage, all the better.

But damn, complex carbs + proteins eaten at the same time = evil lipids. Any juice, flavored water, soda, energy drink, lowcal beverage, sugar free shit etc., bad news.

Avo oil is great for those things she can't let go of inflammatory oils, such as veggie and corn oil.

Why is it every decade before 2000 had distinct aspects to it. But since 2000, it has all been about the same shit other than cell phones getting better. No memorable changes in fashion, music, food, etc.

Oh wait.... maybe that is a symptom of me getting older? dammit.
