How Did You Know You're Getting Older?

Definitely feel it after turning 60, takes more to get moving now and stamina isn’t what it once was. But it takes me around 40% energy to move around than if I had both healthy legs. My strength is weaker too, I can tell by lifting things that I did before but now is getting very difficult to do.

I’m am a firm believer in use it or lose it tho. So use your muscles or lose them.

Keep it pointed in the wind best you can.

I just turned 50, but don't feel it. No one thinks I am this old. Even when I look in the mirror I think that I don't look that old. Sorta disjointing...

I always had really good eyesight, like could read street signs from a couple blocks away, could read books in low light, oncoming headlights didn't bother me, that sort of thing, and everyone said, "Well, when you turn 40 all that will change". I was fine at 40, fine at 41, fine up to 44 then bam, now I need cheaters, 1.0's but still needed them, now I'm at 1.75's and the ocular adjustment on my rifle scopes are nearly maxed out, I really should get contacts. Yesterday, I was setting up some wireless stuff with my AV receiver and the print is so small on the remote I had to put cheaters on to read what button was what, then take them off to see the onscreen display, then put them back on to read the .pdf on my phone, then take them off, lather rinse repeat. Pissed me off when I finally figured out the gear I have wouldn't do what I wanted it to do.

Showed my kids a magazine, my 9 yr old son asked what a magazine is?

Finally stayed at a hotel that had a phone book, realized my kids had never seen one nor knew what to do with it.

Watching movies pre 2007-2010 ish and pointing out to my kids, look not everyone is glued to their phones...

Everyone on the ship calls me the "old man".

I'm 43. Christ, I remember when I first joined the Navy and looking up to the "old guys".

I guess I'm the old guy now. It has it's perks.
I remember when I was in the Navy and the "old men" were the guys (Chiefs) that were in their mid to late 30's.

I'm only 40, but....

When I discovered what TUMs were for
Change your diet:flipoff2:
When I couldn't eat then immediately go to bed without feeling like total shit
Change your diet:flipoff2:
When I started waking up sore
Maybe the cube dweller needs more exercise?:flipoff2:
I will say, I spend about 1/2 my work year on a chair in front of a computer (and not because of IBB:laughing:). When I'm building out a test cell on my feet I rarely wake up feeling that way. After a few days of running tests all day I feel this way.
Of course, I've got a baseline of physical damage that has probably raised the threshold for "sore" so I probably aren't a good one to compare to:homer::laughing:
When I wake up feeling hungover but I haven't drank in a month
Change your diet. I haven't drank in 15 years and I can tell when I'm eating garbage cuz this happens.
When I got gout and the doctor said "welcome to getting old"
Uh, change your diet?:flipoff2:
Most recently doing the suspension work on my Tacoma and feeling like I got ran over by the truck the next day.
I am no more than a year older than you and still 40# overweight. I'm making fun, but only halfway. I feel better now than I did 8 years ago, and much of it was changes in diet.

I was 32 the first time I got something from them.

At 57yrs old I am in LESS pain than I was in my 20's, 30's and 40's. I didn't go gray enough to start coloring my hair until I was almost 40. Needed reading glasses at 50.

My back was horrible starting at 19yrs old for me. then the neck injuries started.

I was IT certified in 2000 and now I can't figure out tech at all. New payment machines at the stores fuck me up bad.

Boyfriend being 20yrs younger reminds me constantly how old I am.
Cradle robber. :flipoff2:

My first thought is "The prattle coming out of those two... :shaking: "

So what does your diet look like?

After the gout my diet changed and I feel a lot better, I no longer follow the "I'm not having kids so I'm going to eat and drink whatever and however much I want" and I quit a stressful job I hated:laughing:. Not a cube dweller anymore, usually I'm out walking around the facility, I probably need to drink even more water than I currently do.

Still wake up feeling like shit because I'm getting old:flipoff2:

Ok, caught up to the end of the thread here...late 30's here, I thought I was doing bad but some of you guys around my age are wayyyy worse off.

Usually is a bit of warm up to get moving (feel slow, not as strong), but once I'm moving I still can keep going like I did 10 years ago. Might feel it a bit the next day, but I did back then too. I do have random things hurting all the time, but nothing terrible. Eyes/ears are still fine, mind is still sharp (shocks me how much is up there sometimes and always growing), I don't like going out but that's been the case since my mid 20's and don't drink too much - one or two a week that's it, and still look like I'm in my 20's - no grey hair yet or real aging to the face, though the belly has grown a bit as is expected.

Worst thing is being more annoyed by the kids outside "get off my lawn" sorta reactions, it's just like ffs can't we have some peace and quiet? I don't remember kids always being that annoying, and I seriously suspect it's because parenting has gotten shittier more than me getting less tolerant.

No. Most kids have always played outside and made a bunch of noise. Kinda what they do.

Yotason is that you?:flipoff2:
Cashiers have started saying "have a nice day sir"...I didnt know I was old enough to be called sir
Now you get why women get all pissy when you call them ma'am?

My upper body is sore as hell from doing some deck work 2 days ago.

I have to be careful when getting out of bed in the morning. Aches and pains till I get some movement outta the joints.

Shit, I felt exhausted the other morning after I woke up. Thought I may need to head out and lay on the couch to get some rest.

For being a millennial I cant IT for shit. Feel like a hacker just changing my password on the work computer. :homer:

Finally stayed at a hotel that had a phone book, realized my kids had never seen one nor knew what to do with it.
I've forgot about those until you mentioned it. Im 32. :homer:

No shit. He threatens to shave his beard to look younger.

food trucks and beer thats less than $25 for an 18 pack.

Works for me :grinpimp:
Had 3 truck tacos 20 mins ago. :grinpimp:

I went to a concert this weekend. Randomly started hitting on a smoking hot chic. Casual conversation, and she tells me she’s 23. She asks how old I am and say 40. She walked away. I felt old after that. :homer:

:flipoff2:

LoL 50/50 shot she'd be into it, but now you know to say you're only 30 :grinpimp:
