Garage Organized? Pics

Thumbnails cuz I'm on my phone and don't know how big these pics actually are.

Cabinets. Lots of cabinets.
Since I took this pic I've added some racks in the fast right corner (in that dead space on the wall) for all my cordless stuff.

Yeah cabinets are awesome, you can even stack shit on top of them instead of on the floor. They have become a catch all though, I need to throw about half the shit in these away.

These divided parts bins are great for small stuff like electrical connectors plus they're mobile so you can take the box to where you're working instead of walking back and forth.

Appreciate it. I’m measuring for every cabinet I can fit, a bike rack and a wall mounted system over a rolling bench. Then I’m headed for the ceiling.

It’s gonna be tight but I’ve got a lot of ideas now.

My father in law welded up these heavy duty brackets that I lined the upper walls with. I used kitchen cabinets to make a work bench where my wife parks because her car is short enough to fit. My Husky toolbox is one that has a flip up top on the back. I swapped casters so it can be pulled straight out and I can have a 4x4 workbench. All auto stuff goes in the metal cabinet under the heater. Long boards, 2x4's metal, etc. goes up in the rafter storage. I made a cut out in the ceiling to still be able to get up to 8' pieces into it (assuming they are smaller then a 2x6, then it is about 7')

I don't have nearly the tools as most people here nor do I do any fab work....but I do love projects most of mine are home related from remodeling to fire pit building etc.

Apparently no real photos. Other then a few old progress photos. You can see the brackets I topped with 3/4 ply and made about 18" deep. I have since lowered them. This is the toolbox I had. I wanted it to be able to pull out and be able to work around it. It's not the most heavy duty, but I am not doing trans rebuilds or anything on it.

Homeless despot has these, the smaller unit isn't nearly as nice as the bigger ones but they're light-years better than short benches and wasted space like I had before.
I have those. Three fully dressed engines is where you start needing to add supplemental crossmembers. They're great for piles of car parts.

They used to be cheap, like $150 on sale. Last time I checked they were like $300 or something absurd. There's a shelving thread somewhere with details.

and next will be a mount for the chop saw off one end flush with the surface so I don't have to balance long material.
Forgot to add-

The home made workbench I posted... if you look at the top there's step offs on either end. I did this specifically for the chop saw. I can have either the feed in or the drops perfectly flush with the saw base. Also, the pad is big enough I can move the saw crooked if I'm doing angle cuts and still have the feed or drop run the length of the table.

I would find a loophole in the HOA by laws of something awful they forgot to exclude, then do that. When they ask you to stop, or correct the issue, tell them it isn't in the bylaws, so no thanks, BUT you'll trade stopping, (insert loophole here) for a shed.

Not a bad idea, with this table being on 4 swivel casters I can flip the chop saw around. Funny I'd been wondering which side would be more useful to have it in but I just solved the mystery before starting the project. :homer:

I've got a standard 2 car garage with a low ceiling. If I get that bitch cleaned up this week as planned, I'll post pics. It's in a constant state of disarray since i only use one side for a workshop and the other for working out. It needs a few more things done to it, but it's a work in progress.

The only perks to a HOA is to make sure you dont have dumpy places next to you (like I do) but like hell if you're gonna tell me to cut my grass cause its too tall in their eyes.

I'll have to post up some pics of my garage later. I will be following this thread for ideas.

Buy a house that's not close enough to a neighbor for their problem to become yours?

:flipoff2:

I could literally build an MX practice track on my property tomorrow and their isn't shit the neighbors or the town could do about it as long as I kept the noise down after hours.

Watching. Just bought a new place with a 30x50 garage/shop that has nothing in it for shelving/organization.

Sam's Club has their version of the heavy duty 4 tier shelf for $220 but I kind of want something to go to the ceiling height (12') so may shop for pallet racking if I can find skinny racks (not more than 36" deep, most I see are 42-48 though)

I spent a fair amount of time this week pulling out the 10' section of cabinets/countertop from this back corner and sticking in the 30" pallet racking I bought like a year ago. Don't know why I put this off so long, but I completely love it and now I need to go pick up some more racking.

I cut up what scrap 2x6 and 2x8's I had laying around, but I need a bunch more to make the shelves, or see if I can find some of the wire decks cheap. Could use another couple shelves worth of horizontal bars here too.

Basically have the same cabinet on the other side and I'm pretty sure this one is going to go to and get replaced by another rack and maybe a smaller work surface. This is just a place to collect shit and never actually get worked on.

As far as the whole thing goes, I'm working on getting it more organized. Moved a couple bikes out to another location, scavenged the peg board and most of the cabinets from work. At one point I had seven motorcycles in here and you couldn't work on any of them inside. Flat spots are the main trouble in here, they just collect shit

Shop around for 24" deep pallet racking. It is out there.

Get racking that will get you within 4' of the ceiling. Depending on how tall you are, start the rack shelving just above head height. This will let you store other equipment and tool boxes below the racking, and make great use of wall space.

I had 36" deep racking and I hated it. Too deep.

Same.
45 and poboy got it going on. Hope to try and make mine look half as good.

Step 1: Spring cleaning and garage sale.
Step 2: CHEAP retractable ceiling mounted air hose?

The harbor freight 50' spring loaded reel used to be $85 and worth 2x that. The hose was only good for a year, but I didn't care.

I'm not sure if they cut the quality on it by now or not. It was nice enough I bought myself a spare

My chopsaw is on a way overbuilt cart I built, so I can wheel it onto the driveway so I can share the scream of that toothed Diablo blade.

I have 2, a 25' in the middle of the garage and a 50' out at the garage doors so I can just run a line out into the driveway. Bought 5ish years ago. The airlines are definitely junky.

I dig the overhead lamps. I'd have those in mine if I couldn't touch the cieling from my stool lol.
