What's new

Fastenall can go fuck off

I have personally flows a 3ph breaker in a back pack on a commercial airline to Alaska
1. to guarantee that it was the right part
2. They were in Alaska, and there wasn't parts to replace it with
3. The value of me personally walking that shit up there was worth more than the risk of the machinery failing that the gizmo was for
4. You fuckers are in Alaska, and you actually get paid for being from Alaska, pay up
5. Explain to a TSA agent what a breaker is and why it is in your backpack :grinpimp:
:lmao:

Nate, Napa Dowling has a decent stock of bolts.

Fk that. Grab a used suitcase at Goodwill, along with some old ugly sweaters for packing, fill it up and check that bag. No TSA knobgrabbers to satisfy.
so they can loose it?
there was a reason I was hand delivering it

going off of your reasoning, I should just ship it, that would have been easier yet :grinpimp:

They wouldn't loose it. Their undies would get itchy, so they'd take it somewhere and blow it up. And then call him a terrorist.

Fuck Fastenal, Tacoma screw and the like. They're all thieves anyway. My local farm store still sells by the pound and they have a bitch'n selection. If they don't have it the local ACE probably does although at higher than farm store prices. They're both far cheaper than a bolt store any day.

Fuck fastenal, we have a bolt bin at work they’re supposed to keep stocked for us but it never has enough of what you need in it.

The account only shit started here a couple years ago. They don’t even take walk up customers on a corporate account either. Pisses me off to no end when we don’t have shit in the bin they’re supposed to keep stocked and I can’t just drive the 5 miles to go get what I need from them in person.

Set up an account. Pay with credit card per transaction. That's what I do. :homer:

To establish a commercial account, you would have to connect with a local branch, fill out paperwork and once that paperwork was received back to the branch, it will be reviewed. The local branch does have the discretion to approve or deny that request for a commercial account depending on their qualifications. Each branch is their own entity, and each branch may have different qualifications depending on where they are located.

May work for some. I just wont go in there. They stocked less and less at the local store to the point that every little thing had to be shipped in. Staff gives a big huff if you actually need any help, that is if the associate isnt a new hire that knows nuthin. They closed the storefront here and moved to an uninviting warehouse. It is pretty clear to me that however Fastenal makes its money, they certainly dont want my business.

The local tractor stores (Tractor supply, Bomgaars, Jax) stock near anything I need for fasteners and the rest are easily ordered online. Even ACE hardware is more useful than Fastenal.
We have few options. Home Depot or Lowes but they barely have grade 8 anymore.
NAPA has grade 8 but it's stupid expensive.

I got bolts this spring from them without any hassle. Must have been before the March "cut off".

I don't see why they'd want to kill business.

Who cares if it's a billion dollar outfit or Joe down the road when buying a sack of bolts?

At work I treat everyone the same... with respect and service to the best of my ability. Don't care if it's a $50 or $500,000 order, it's all bill paying money at the end of the month.
A bunch of small purchases might be the difference between profit or loss some months.

Yup, which is a load of shit....all these commercial supply houses doing it pisses me off, especially HVAC related. I get that I'm going to get fleeced at MSRP as a walk in, but ffs if I have the part in hand and cash in the other, fucking take my money.

HVAC stuff is absurd, it’s about easier to buy a suppressor. Had a coil go out on our rental and found a guy to install it for a reasonable cash price. Was trying to call around and locate the part and they literally wouldn’t even tell me if they had one or not. Not just “yeah, it’s here, but we can’t tell you how much we will charge him for it.” Just flat out nothing like I’m trying to buy drugs over the phone.

Kimball Midwest?
they have quality stuff, I don't know about Nates shipping situation, but Nate has to be aware where Alaska is located on a map at this point.

You’d think, but every thread is “These guys are trying to gouge me by charging $17 to ship a Dewalt battery.” Even though it has to come by bush plane..l

Nate
how do you not have a bolt bin?
Why not get a pack of plow bolts?
This the last time that you are going to plow snow?

I have access to everything here, and I run the big bins. I need a bolt, you just buy it at bulk and you win next time you need it and it is right there all convenient like

and they are cheaper in the long run

HD and Lowes are terrible for bolt supply. Nails and screws on the other hand....

Any farm supply stores around you? ACE hardware? I know Amazon works in Alaska even if it is longer delivery period.

McMasterCarr? MSC Direct?

Denali Industrial Supply? I have no idea where in the frozen eskimo town you exist....

Or it might be the difference between having to pay another counter clerk to deal with walk-ins. Pretty likely that they lose money with those $20 walk-ins when that person could be spending time on commercial orders.

Walk-ins take a hell of alot more time and I would bet are the cause of most the headaches more times than not.

we have all bees stuck behind "that guy"

how big is this 1/2" bolt?
Is that a metric?
My 1/2 wrench doesn't fit that
The sail boat mechanic said that I need metric
Does that come in purple?
I need a lock nut, but I only see these things marks as nylock, is that a new thing that just came out?

Or you can do online bulk and just be done
I see both sides

Every shop I dealwith uses Lawson.

We tried using Fastenall years ago at a shop I worked. Salesman was great at talking, but then was zero service.

Boss got pissed one day, loaded up the bins in the truck and shoved them out in front of their doors 🤣🤣
winzer here
guy brings brownies just about once a month that are pretty great

Home Hardware is the best I have locally. Fastenal is a trip I make for specialty stuff.

If anyone knows a Canadian online outfit with low/zero freight implications, I'm all ears.

Sasco never brought brownies or anything else. But I could text our sales guy at 6pm or whenever and he would answer back. And also have stuff at our shop the next day. :smokin:

We're screwed up here, can't even nut lol

Really though, I do TSC (Peavey Mart now) for most general purpose stuff and order amazon or online wherever I can find it if I need specialty stuff. Fastenal, Grainger, McMaster Carr, and the likes are impossible up here. Shit, I've had better luck just getting the hardware I need from the dealership for whoever makes the damn thing, cheaper to spend $10/bolt for a couple pieces than paying $20 shipping on top of the part itself.
